Chapter 66: Encounter With a Dragon

The black dragon soared above the sky. He was on his way home to the Lair of Mirages when he noticed a strange presence in a certain forest in the empire’s vicinity.

’Is that a demon?’ He thought, then decided to go lower in the sky.

However, the moment he chose to plunge down, he noticed that the man was staring at him with delight.

As soon as he got closer to the forest, the smell of the man confirmed his suspicion. He glanced at the man’s companion, but he felt confused, as he felt no demonic presence coming out of him and his smell was definitely human.

He landed with his claws, and his tail flicked on the ground, which produced shockwaves around the area. Then a violet vapor with an unpleasant smell filled the air as soon as he let out a deep breath.

"I’m not mistaken! To think that a demon still has the audacity to take on a journey after the Conjurer of Blue Flames died!" He exclaimed.

Afterward, the dragon leaned closer to Zeno; his snout with a single horn at the top of it was just a meter away, and those red round eyes with slit-type pupils stared at the demon with an intimidating look.

"So, what is your purpose in coming here, little one?" The dragon said, ready to lunge at Zeno at any point in time.

"Can you move a little bit farther? Your breath stinks," Zeno said while pinching his nose.

His action brought fury to the dragon and made the human behind him drop his jaw due to shock.

’Mocking a creature almost ten times bigger than himself, he’s insane,’ Kizeler thought while shaking his head.

It was his first time seeing a dragon up close, and it frightened him, but upon seeing his companion’s overwhelming confidence, the numbness in his body vanished bit by bit.

However, the dragon roared as soon as he heard the man’s comment regarding his breath.

Kizeler made several steps backward and blocked both of his ears with his bare hands as he felt the thunderous sound coming from the dragon. Meanwhile, Zeno remained in his position, standing still as he put one of his little fingers inside his right ear.

"Now, you’re too loud, big one," Zeno said.

Then he pulled the black dice out of his pocket, and a pair of jet-black twin daggers materialized in both of his hands. The next second, he leaped above the dragon’s head.

His movement was so fast that he appeared to be blinking in Kizeler’s vision. Then Zeno pulled his right fist behind him, preparing for a punch, and the dice dangling from one of the daggers spun before the surface with three white dots glowed.

A pair of jet-black gauntlets covered Zeno’s fists all the way up to his arms as soon as the daggers disappeared.

"Jack," he whispered.

Then he slammed a punch into the dragon’s snout, which made the roaring stop.

The dragon’s head stuck on the ground, and the impact of the attack created a large crater deep enough to bury the dragon inside of it.

Zeno remained in mid-air and stared at the damage he had done while the dragon lost all of his reasoning after experiencing a punch from Zeno. All of his teeth broke, and the scales on his snout fell apart.

"A monster classified as a Pandemic-Level..." Kizeler’s eyes widened as he spoke.

"In just a single hit," he continued, then looked at the figure above and gulped a mouthful of saliva.

It was not his first time witnessing Zeno’s battle, but knowing that he could exert this much force made him stupefied.

"How strong really are you?" He wondered, and he remembered all of a sudden the words that Zeno had told him before.

’The things you’ve witnessed, the abilities you’ve seen, are just an ounce...’ he repeated inside his mind.

Meanwhile, the dragon tried to stand and then looked behind him, but upon seeing the demon staring at him with an expressionless face, fear consumed him. All that he wanted now was to flee from Zeno’s gaze.

’I will die if I stay here any longer,’ he thought.

Then he tried to recall if he saw a demon with that face during the war, but his memory failed him.

"Would you mind telling me your name?" The dragon asked, even though he experienced more pain with every word he uttered.

However, Zeno rejected the idea of introducing himself.

"Is that even important now?" He replied with a question, then landed on the ground next to the giant crater.

Upon hearing the demon’s reply, he let out a short laugh and faced the silver-haired man.

"I have no choice but to kill you then," he bluffed, and he released a surplus amount of energy, hoping that the demon would be intimidated.

Kizeler felt suffocated as he failed to withstand the heavy pressure in the atmosphere while holding his breath for several minutes. The next second, he looked around him and climbed up a giant tree to keep his distance from the violet miasma. If he was not mistaken, once inhaled, his body would be paralyzed, and inhaling a huge amount of it would be harmful for a human like him.

Other monsters around the forest started to flee and cower in fear upon feeling the monstrous energy, yet the demon was still staring at him with a deadpan expression. Then, the moment he smirked, the dragon felt shivers on his whole body.

But he didn’t show it; instead, he summoned two large spheres at his side, containing poisons, and sent them in the silver-haired man’s direction. Afterward, he charged at him with his claws and mouth wide open.

But the black dice on the surface of the right gauntlet glowed once more, and it transformed into a scythe with five white dots aligned in a curve on its chime. Then Zeno dodged one of the spheres and proceeded to cut the other.

As the sphere filled with poison was sliced in half, a foul stench of smoke and liquid splashed over Zeno.

The dragon smiled upon witnessing the scene; even their king, Salamander, was afraid of his poison. Then he aimed his claws to rip the demon’s body apart.

However, Zeno remained unscathed as the smoke dissipated, but his clothes were ruined due to the splashes of liquid. Upon seeing the sharp claws coming straight at his body, he spun the scythe on his finger and cut the dragon’s hand.

The huge creature ignored the pain he felt from losing a limb and continued to fly up.

’Losing a hand is a small sacrifice when compared to my life,’ he thought.

But seconds later, he realized that even though he was flapping his wings, his surroundings were still the towering trees inside the forest. Then he gulped, and as soon as he looked behind him, he saw the demon, like a grim ripper with a scythe in his left hand and holding his tail with the other, stopping him from going anywhere.

"Who told you that you could leave after blocking my path and ruining my clothes?" Zeno said, grinning.

Afterward, he pulled the large creature out and threw it back into the ground. Trees broke down as his body slammed into their trunks. They were destroyed in seconds, and a loud bang reverberated in the area, which caused another crater to appear with him as its center.

Then the demon plunged downward at the back of the black dragon, which made him roar in pain.

"You will regret it if you kill me!" The dragon exclaimed.

Zeno laughed upon hearing him.

"It’s not my first time killing a dragon, and I’m not yet experiencing this so-called regret," he replied as he walked the dragon’s back up to his head.

The dragon tried to stand and shook the demon behind him. He even flapped his wings in the process while ignoring his injuries, but his movements were put to a halt as soon as Zeno stomped at him with such strength, enough to pin him down.

"Now, do tell me, what is the purpose of a dragon flying above the Plain of Fantasies?" He asked before sitting down at the creature’s head.

"Not by a single chance, and besides, there’s no use in speaking about it. You won’t spare me even if I tell you," the dragon replied, dissatisfied with the situation he was in.

The demon nodded upon hearing him.

"Hmnn, even though you’re the weakest dragon I’ve ever met, your principle is something else," he said, standing up before raising his scythe.

The dragon closed his eyes, ready to accept his impending death, just as he had expected. Zeno beheaded him in just a second. His scythe’s blade sliced the dragon’s flesh with ease, and blood spurted into him. Then his weapon reverted back into a black dice as he tossed it up and caught it in mid-air.

Soon after, he put both of his palms into the creature’s body, and the next second, the carcass disappeared without a single trace as soon as he thought of Tigrid’s name.

Afterward, Zeno, who was drenched in blood, smiled in satisfaction and looked at Kizeler up above the branch of a tree.

"Did you bring spare clothes, didn’t you?" He asked.

. . . . .

Almost a hundred thousand feet above the surface of the ocean, a giant mass of land was levitating in the sea of clouds. The land had different terrains and bodies of water, like a lake, inside it.

There was not a single trace of civilization present in the place, yet it was called a lair.

A place filled with wild monsters, especially those fierce and dangerous ones; however, they were kept in check by the ruler of the island. The prideful dragons—these large beasts lived in different parts of the floating mass of land while using their specific elemental energy to cultivate the place.

Meanwhile, inside a volcano where burning lava was boiling in constant motion, a red dragon rose up and spread his wings before letting out a thunderous roar. Soon, it was followed by hundreds of roars that came across the whole island.

’Cyanide has not returned yet,’ the red dragon thought while looking outside the vent.
