The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 56: Blue Sun
Chapter 56: Blue Sun
"Those deep sets of yellow eyes remind me of that man; perhaps you’re Ascreal’s descendant?" Zeno asked as soon as the dark elf turned around to face him.
The elf knitted his brows at the mention of the name. After all, they, the dark elves, respected that name more than their lives, and it was not a common occurrence for someone to know that. It was the person who stood at the pinnacle of their race a long time ago. Though he fell during the demon’s invasion, which caused their race to decline in numbers.
Despite this, his teachings were passed down to the next generation of dark elves, and he was treated like a divine being in their culture.
"Now, I’m curious about your existence for real; to speak our Lord’s name in a casual manner, who are you?" The dark elf smiled and said.
His previous expression disappeared as soon as he let go of his words. Then Zeno grinned before replying.
"You’ll die once I tell you," he said, teasing the creature before his eyes.
However, the dark elf ignored him and proceeded with his delayed introduction.
"I am Alisteine, and yes, I’m from Ascreal’s lineage; would you mind telling us about yourself before I start killing all of you here?" He stated while extending both of his arms.
Zeno laughed as he heard the elf’s declaration. His laughter was so loud that it echoed in the open field.
"Just a moment ago, someone already told me those same words, and now she’s lying somewhere in the streets, void of her soul," Zeno said.
Afterward, he took a moment to glance at the vampire behind him, who remained still in his position.
"Pollux Nightingale! Try doing the same thing you did a while ago, and you will be the first one to fall here." His warning, along with the creepy smile on his face, sent shivers down the vampire’s body.
’I don’t know the reason why you chose to save that abomination, but one thing is for sure: it will be pure chaos,’ he added in his thoughts.
Then, the moment Zeno averted his eyes from Lux, a turbulence of energy emanating from him made the surrounding area shudder. The surface with four skulls on the red dice dangling from his ear gleamed white, and the sun vanished above.
Darkness enveloped the surroundings, and fear crept into the hearts of those who witnessed the phenomenon. The first thing that came to their minds was the Demon King. Though, after several seconds, the light returned as a new sun emerged in the sky.
However, it was not the same as before; its color radiated a vivid blue, and its rays were visible to the naked eye.
Arctic was the first to notice the abrupt change. But the sudden chills that she felt made her step back, and soon after, she fell on the broken debris while hugging herself.
Every pore of her skin was experiencing a sensation she had never encountered in her life, and her lips started to crack due to the sudden drop in temperature.
’W-what’s h-happening? Am I freezing?’ She asked inside her thoughts.
Then she heard loud footsteps, and they became louder with every passing moment. Afterward, a silhouette came over her and she glared at the man’s broad shoulders. She became somewhat glad as she recognized who it was; however, after seeing him not get affected by the chilling atmosphere, her mind buffled.
Pardon, Young Lady, for this knight’s action, but we must escape from this place," Manchester said before putting his arms around the Frostbloom Kingdom’s princess.
Arctic just let the man carry her as they ran away from the place. She was still chilling, and the situation she was in was foreign to her, so she was not in the proper state of mind to argue with the knight’s judgment.
Though she still managed to glance at the silver-haired man, whom she believed was the cause of it all. She continued to stare at him until they left the castle grounds.
Meanwhile, the dark elf gulped several times, his jaw dropped, and his mouth wide opened while looking at the thing up above the clouds.
"Blue sun?" He uttered; his voice couldn’t hide his disbelief.
"How?" He asked, after he averted his gaze from it and looked back at the demon.
The blue sun represented their king’s power. Based on the knowledge that was passed down to them. Those who were exposed to its brilliance would experience the thing they feared the most, whether it was their own death or the fall of someone important to them. A few made it out alive, while others who were caught in the never-ending illusion lost their minds in the process and failed to recognize reality.
"It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" Zeno replied.
Then he looked above the sky and admired the calmness of the blue sun.
Afterward, Alisteine looked around and found shelter behind a damaged wall, and Zeno smirked as he saw the action of the dark elf.
"No need to get agitated. Strong-willed people have no reason to be frightened against that thing," he said.
Then he tossed the black dice in front of him as soon as he pulled it out of his coat’s pocket.
In the meantime, Lux was busy understanding the demon’s abilities. He was looking at him while preparing for the effects of the blue sun. From the gist of what he heard from Zeno, he concluded that it was a Legacy that harbored Illusions.
’A domain? No, it’s only a skill-type Legacy,’ he thought.
After that, a voice resounded inside his head.
"What is your progress, my son?" it said.
Lux became dumbfounded, and he immediately turned around. From a distance, there was a man standing on one of the roofs of the buildings, looking at him. He was dressed in a red coat, while his face was kept hidden in a hood.
"I-it c-can’t be," Lux stuttered.
Then he flew in the man’s direction, not realizing that he was caught in the illusion he had contemplated moments earlier.
. . . . .
"Hey Ascreal! Show me you’re Legacy!" Cinhard asked his opponent as they exchanged slashes with their blades.
"Are you waiting for your people to fall entirely before using that thing?" He added, teasing the Elven King.
"Maybe that’s really the case; you’re afraid that most of them will be prisoned in that illusion of yours," The Demon King said once more.
However, Ascreal disregarded Cinhard’s taunt and focused his mind on the battle. Once he killed the enemy in front of him, their victory was guaranteed.
He spun the blade on his right hand before aiming it at Cinhard’s chest, which was parried as soon as the Demon King noticed it. Ascreal’s attack wasn’t finished, though; he followed it with a sharp kick straight to Cinhard’s temple, but the white-haired demon disappeared, and the translucent burning sword struck him behind without warning.
The dark elf gritted his teeth due to immense pain; getting stabbed while burning the insides of his wound was not a nice experience to begin with.
"Show it to me!" Cinhard said as he pulled the blade and gave the elf a kick, which sent him tumbling away.
Then, like what the Demon King wanted, the moon above vanished as it was replaced by a blue sun that lit up the whole place; however, only a few seconds had passed, and an overwhelming darkness enveloped the area before eating the blue sun away.
Ascreal was dumbfounded. For his Legacy to be dealt with in a matter of time, he thought of how outstanding his opponent’s domain was.
"Is that it?" Cinhard asked, his expression a bit dour.
Then he moved a step ahead and appeared in front of the Elven King.
"It’s over, Ascreal. Your people were dead, your Legacy was consumed, and your darkness was not dim enough," Cinhard exclaimed.
Afterward, he raised the elf by pulling him through his disentangled braids. Ascreal clenched the demon’s hand, trying to free himself from his clutches.
"You have no cards to play," Cinhard said, and he extended his sword sideward, preparing to behead the dark elven king.
However, a few seconds before moving his hand, a jet-black arrow passed beside his ear within a hair’s breadth. It struck the elven king on the forehead. The impact of the attack burst his skull open, and his blood splattered on the Demon King’s body.
Cinhard let go of the elf’s hair and glanced behind his back, though he found nothing aside from the silhouette of the mountain range. The attack came so fast that even he failed to notice the projectile.
"Damn rascal," he said, annoyed by what happened.
. . . . .
Zeno, known as Arthur, during this time period finished the task the Demon King gave him. He spared no one, and boredom struck him hard. He was now deep inside the mountain due to the elves’ endless running. He was lying down in the pile of corpses when he decided to climb up to the nearest peak.
Then he looked at the area where the war between the elves and demons was taking place. There was nothing to see because of the thick clouds surrounding the mountain.
However, despite all of this, Zeno grinned, and a jet-black bow materialized in his right hand. The next second, a jet-black arrow pointing somewhere beneath the clouds appeared as soon as he raised the bow and pulled its string.
"The Elven King’s soul..." He uttered.
"I’ll take it as my compensation for this tedious yet boring assignment," he added as he let go of the bow string.
. . . . .
The pointless killing ended as soon as Ascreal died. Some of the dark elves managed to escape, but a group of demons was tasked with hunting them down. Then Cinhard retracted his Legacy, and the moonlight shone once again.
It was the demon army’s victory, but the Demon King himself was not in the mood to celebrate. He looked into the moon, and the memory of his fight with the Elven King slipped into his mind.
A scene where he was getting pummeled by his very own general.
’I, Cinhard Beelze, have no reason to fear that man,’ he thought, rejecting the illusion that the blue sun had shown him.
