The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 54: Primordial Magic
Chapter 54: Primordial Magic
But the demon’s laughter rang in the garden.
"My physical form died a few weeks ago. My soul fused with this body already, and your queen’s soul vanished the moment I set my eyes on her," the demon explained his situation, which caused the captain to knit his brows.
"Kill me, and she will die as well," he added.
Then Delta heard the princess’ crying, so he took a glance at her, and upon seeing her still on the crib, he reverted his eyes, which widened as soon as he saw that one of his swords was stabbing the queen’s chest.
"What have you done?" Delta yelled, and he immediately pulled out the sword from the queen’s body.
The demon forced to free the queen’s hand by moving it downward, resulting in her wrist getting cut in the middle. Then he pulled out the sword that had been struck on the ground and stabbed his vessel’s chest.
"Y-you can’t heal a dead person," the demon uttered as the queen’s body died, smiling.
He knew that he would be put to torture once he got captured, so he decided to end his life along with the queen.
Afterward, a scream echoed at the garden’s entrance. It came from a young maid who saw Delta pulling out the sword from the queen’s body.
"You’re mistaken! I didn-" the captain tried to explain, but the maid ran away from the scene.
Then Delta shrugged his shoulders before proceeding to check the queen’s pulse, but it was gone, and he looked above to see the first prince staring at his mother while doing his best to prevent tears from falling.
Seconds later, the maid returned along with the king’s confidant and several knights. The knights were shocked upon seeing their captain with a bloodied sword in his hand while standing next to the queen’s body, which was lying on the floor.
"I will explai-" Delta said, but he was cut off when one of the knights chimed in.
"Throw away your weapon and step back from the queen," he instructed.
The captain followed the command to prevent any other misunderstanding, and then the knights retrieved the queen’s lifeless body while the maid ran to fetch the crying princess.
"Her Highness is dead!" yelled a healer that the knights brought along.
Afterward, the king and the second prince arrived while catching their breaths. They ran all the way from the workshop to the garden as soon as they heard the news. The king fell to his knees as he saw his wife lying on the grass, soaked with her own blood.
He moved in the queen’s direction while still kneeling, and he hugged her tightly upon reaching her. The body was still warm. He tried to wake up the woman and call out her name, but she was not responding.
No one was uttering a word in the entire garden; they were all wailing in silence for the death of their queen. Then the king looked at Delta and gave his orders.
"Arrest that man and lock him up inside the prison!" He yelled, his voice filled with agony.
The knights followed, and the captain let himself get captured. He chose not to say a single word for now.
"No! He did nothing wrong!" The first prince’s voice echoed from the window above.
However, the king and the knights ignored his words, but his action was enough to put a smile on the captain’s face.
Soon after the queen’s burial, a trial was held for Delta. The defendant explained his side, but without proper evidence and a witness, his words were just empty claims in the ears of the king.
The first prince tried his best to persuade his father and the others to clear his mentor’s name, but as the black sheep of the family, they didn’t believe him at all.
The king wanted to execute Delta in the central plaza, but the public was heavily against the idea. Most of them were thankful to the knight’s captain for saving their lives during the demon’s invasion, and they couldn’t afford for him to have a miserable death. They still somewhat believed that the allegations against Delta were false.
So the punishment was changed from the death penalty to a life sentence, and news about a hero who once saved the Herish kingdom from utter destruction turned into a murderer who killed the queen for his delusions circulated around the empire.
. . . . .
The sound of crackling chains burst, and the fat man dashed towards Lexzi. His skin and flesh were burned, and smoke was radiating from his body, yet he still managed to let out a laugh before punching the prince.
Lexzi created three layers of barriers to protect himself from the attack. Then he waved his hand, and the grimoire on his side flipped its pages before two dots of yellow drew a magic circle in front of him.
Fritz followed his punch with a consecutive palm strike with the thought of pulverizing his enemy’s shield, but a beam of lightning pushed him away and grazed his already burned body.
The sword on his back struck deeper into him as he slammed into the walls.
The man’s body was now a total mess; he looked at his scorched hand and gritted his teeth. His injuries were beyond the capabilities of a normal human, yet he stood up as if they were nothing.
"Perhaps, are you a berserker?" The prince asked upon noticing that his enemy’s strength grew stronger the moment he landed his attack.
"Sort of!" Fritz replied.
"I can convert the damage I received into raw power and speed, making me immune to pain," he added.
Then he entered in a running stance and dashed to the prince once more.
"That’s a nice Legacy, but try converting it into intelligence; I think you need a lot in regards to that area," Lexzi teased his opponent before leaping backwards, then levitated in midair to create distance from the coming pile of burned meat.
Four small magic circles of the same size floated around him. Each of them differed in color and pattern. On top of his head, it glowed a bluish-white hue with a diamond-shaped design scattering the circle’s outline, while the left magic circle had the same pattern and color as the lightning spell that he used earlier.
The one below his feet radiated a green light with leaves as its marking, and a red tint with the curving of a sun composed the last circle at his right.
’If that is the case, I need to kill him in a single strike,’ the first prince thought.
"Should I pin him down first?" He uttered.
Then he closed his left eye and tracked his opponent’s trajectory. He put his hands in front of him, then clenched his middle finger all the way to the little one, giving him a check pattern on each of his hands. After that, he flipped his right hand downward and aligned his fingers by putting it at the top of the left to make a rectangle shape.
"No, he’s an idiot who will charge at me without thinking," he added while looking at Fritz inside the rectangular pattern.
Seconds later, like he predicted, Fritz kept closing the distance between them with his unstoppable speed. This particular scene made the prince smile.
"Target lock on," Lexzi said.
All four magic circles trembled, and the elemental energy around them kept on fluctuating, signifying that the spell could be released at any point in time.
"Primordial Magic," the prince uttered after seeing that Fritz increased his speed once more.
Then a magic circle of incredible size, bigger than Lexzi himself, materialized in front of him; unlike his previous spells, it didn’t have any complex patterns. It only had four arrows pointing at a single dot located at its center. Afterward, the four smaller circles launched a beam with their respective elements. However, it didn’t reach the fat man; the magic was being absorbed by the big magic circle.
At first, it had a white outline, but as the elements kept pouring onto it, its color varied according to the volume of the magic. A few seconds later, the four magic circles dissipated in mid-air, and the big circle shrank in size. It became smaller than a fist, and Fritz was now just several meters away from Lexzi.
"Farewell," the prince said.
Then a light, thinner than a strand of hair, was launched from the magic circle. It was followed by an enormous blast that shook the ground for several seconds. The walls crumbled into pieces, and half of the castle was destroyed. At the center of the attack, a large crater appeared where Fritz was previously running.
His body disappeared without a trace; the explosion happened so fast that even with his outstanding reflexes, he failed to react. The first prince was also caught in his own attack, which sent him flying.
He was thrown into a pillar, upon looking up, he was surprised to see a large chunk of debris falling into him. But a familiar silhouette of a man sliced it into smaller particles before landing beside him.
"Are you okay, Prince?" Delta asked, examining the young man and searching for any wounds in his body.
Lexzi shook his head in an instant.
"I’m fine; it’s just that last attack consumed half of my energy," he answered the ex-captain’s query.
"Great, let’s get out of here then," Delta replied.
Despite the injuries from earlier, he still insisted on carrying the first prince on his back to exit the place. Soon enough, the rest of the castle completely fell down.
. . . . .
The grand mage was near the city walls; he was observing the thick layer of smoke that was covering the city and preventing them from communicating outside.
"I gathered a lot of information, but I still can’t figure out how it works," Seth said while massaging the temple of his head.
"Is it a domain-type Legacy? If it is, I can’t do a single thing to dispel it. Change of plans, I need to find the person who put it in here," he uttered.
He was in the middle of his thoughts when he heard a loud bang coming in the direction of the castle, and the whole surrounding area trembled.
He knitted his brows and leaped to the roof of one of the buildings, then looked at the castle.
He knew that the explosion was caused by high-level magic, but he couldn’t grasp how a strong spell like that could pass his detection. After all, mages were very sensitive to magic spells.
However, despite his failure to sense the attack, he felt happy; he was sure that it was the first prince who cast the spell.
"A type of magic that even I have no knowledge about, he really didn’t fail to surprise me," he exclaimed, a smile brooding all over his face.
