The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 191: Off To Somewhere
Chapter 191: Off To Somewhere
The soul devourer tilted his head in confusion. He stared for a moment at Janea’s eyes before words escaped from his lips.
"What do you mean Helra’s betrayal? What did the Deity of Hope do, exactly?" Zeno asked and retracted the scythe.
"She fell out of glory as she got tricked by the First Sovereign into submission," Janea answered.
Zeno gave her a questioning look before stating his reply.
"Sounds like not some sort of betrayal to me," he said.
However, the deity shook her head and laid her body down on the bed. Her current position was quite alluring and intoxicating, but sadly, the man in front of her had his eyes only on one.
"It was! The fact that she entertained that annoying demon, she already betrayed us, and she even abandoned her duty, leaving her Septenary unattended," Janea insisted.
Then she looked straight at him and smiled.
"I know you’re wondering why Sherise hid this information from you," she added.
Upon the mention of the Deity of Kindness’ name, Zeno squinted his eyes, waiting for the woman’s next set of words.
"She doesn’t want to burden you about our comrade’s failure, yet she wants you to carry the responsibility of preventing those demons from returning. Isn’t that absurd?" Janea asked.
However, the soul devourer let out a smirk and turned around before walking towards the window. He stared at the messed-up state of the capital and spoke with a heavy tone.
"Aren’t you the same as well?" Zeno said.
Then he turned around and let the black dice spin on the tip of his finger.
"You induced chaos, made Cinhard die just to free me from imprisonment, but all that you want is the sword in my hand," he added.
"Isn’t that a win-win situation for you? If you give me what I wanted, you don’t need to participate in the war. You can just stay neutral like what you did last time. We won’t bother you, I swear!" Janea defended, raising her right hand to show her sincerity.
Upon hearing this, Zeno couldn’t help but click his tongue; he wanted to laugh but chose not to do so.
’This woman, her way of words is really something. Of course, you won’t bother me, but can you say the same thing for those bastards as well?’ Zeno stated inside his mind.
The next second, Janea, unaware of his thoughts, stood up and walked towards the demon. Upon reducing the distance between them in just a few feet, she raised her forefinger and let it caress the demon’s abdomen all the way to his chest.
"But if you’re willing to wield it for me, that would always be so much better. To have you in my ranks is a dream that I always chase," she asserted without averting her gaze from his eyes.
"Then let it stay as a dream of yours. Not a single bit of interest to serve beings like you," Zeno replied and grabbed the woman’s wrist before pushing her hand away. Then, he walked towards the door’s direction.
"Where are you going?" Janea asked.
The demon halted his steps and without looking back, he answered; his voice reverberated in the entirety of the room.
"To the gate leading to the underworld, I’ll try breaking the seal; it’s bound to happen anyway," he said.
His words were enough to make the deity blink a few times. Then after recovering from shock, she went towards him and held his arm.
"Wait! Are you serious?" She exclaimed.
Zeno didn’t speak, though he gave her a glance.
"Did you even listen to your own words? That’s nothing but madness! Our side isn’t prepared for the war as well," Janea explained. This time, there was a slight change in the tone of her voice.
However, Zeno just shrugged off his shoulders and resumed his steps, but the Deity of Hope walked past him and blocked the door’s front. She stared at the demon, her eyes glaring in annoyance.
"Now! That’s the Janea that I used to know," Zeno uttered with a wide grin.
"For the sake of this world’s future, you’re not going anywhere!" The woman exclaimed, almost yelling while ignoring the demon’s remark.
Silence enveloped the room as the two people stared at each other; no one spoke. Their eyes were locked in a silent exchange until a sudden knock on the door came, and a servant’s voice soon followed.
"Saintess, a mercenary has arrived just now; she’s waiting for you at the ground floor’s corridor," it said.
Janea squinted her eyes, curious who it was that came to visit her apostle, though she didn’t bother to ask its name.
"I’ll be there in a while, thank you," she replied, and Zeno gave her a piercing glance.
"Understood," the servant answered, and the sound of footsteps walking away from the door was heard.
Then, Janea diverted her attention back to the demon.
"What?" She bellowed.
Zeno shook his head and pushed her to the side before grabbing the door handle. But the moment he pulled it open, the deity held his arm once again.
"Don’t do something foolish," Janea uttered.
However, the demon ignored her warning and went straight outside, leaving the deity contemplating about his words.
. . . . .
Zeno walked down the stairs, and in the small garden near it, he saw Blackwell, in human form, leaning against the wall while the Dragon King and Siren Queen were observing him from a certain distance.
Upon sensing his presence, Blackwell opened his eyes and began to walk towards the soul devourer’s direction.
"General, I’m here to receive your orders," Blackwell asked while lowering his head to show his respect.
"Come with me, we’re off to somewhere," Zeno stated and they walked towards the exit.
However, as they sauntered across the corridor, a man tossing a coin in the air in a repeated motion came into their sight. A small rectangular plate with a diamond crystal embedded in its center was hanging on his neck.
The moment the soul devourer passed at him, the individual gave him a glance.
’A demon in a sanctuary?’ He thought, his face laced with curiosity.
Then, he looked at the black-haired man following the demon from behind. His glares made Blackwell spare him a glance, but seconds later, he heard the general’s voice.
"Ignore him," Zeno whispered, but loud enough for Blackwell to hear.
Thus, the black dragon just walked straight, not even bothered by the person’s stares.
As soon as Zeno went out of the establishment, the red dice dangling on his ear spun, and Eliana’s name appeared on his wrist.
The demon tried to locate Uoiea’s presence once again, but even the hexad was still nowhere to be found.
Thus, he clicked his tongue in frustration, afraid that something might have happened to the princess.
’I can’t repeat my past mistake,’ Zeno thought.
However, no matter what he did or how many attempts he tried to use Eliana’s Legacy to scan the capital, he found nothing, not even a trace of her, as if she disappeared without a single sign.
Though he was a little at ease by the fact that the Hexad was missing as well. He believed that Uoiea had it with her, and it would be a great help to avoid any kind of mishap.
’Sol won’t let something happen to her,’ Zeno thought as he looked above and stared at the ball of light.
. . . . .
A few days later, located in the Garden of Dreams, in a thick forest with towering trees reaching above the sky, a black dragon descended on the ground, and a man lying on its back leaped downward.
They were none other than Zeno and Blackwell who did an aerial travel from the empire’s capital all the way to the land of the elves.
However, before they could even take a step, a barrage of arrows rained over them.
"What a warm greeting!" Zeno exclaimed as he tossed the black dice above.
As soon as the surface with four white dots emitted light, it turned into a giant shield enough to cover them from the sudden ambush.
The rain of arrows lasted for a minute before it dwindled and died down. Afterward, creatures holding a giant war axe emerged behind the trees while Zeno retracted the shield and looked at the assailants.
Their upper bodies resembled those of a human while their lower parts were similar to a horse.
"Centaurs," Blackwell uttered and scraped his claws on the ground.
"Who are you? What are your purposes in our land?" The centaur with black fur on his lower body asked.
"Hmnn, maybe next time, try to ask first before firing those," Zeno replied and pointed to the quivers strapped on the centaur’s back.
Afterward, he vanished from his position, and all of the centaurs were cut in half without any kind of resistance. Their blood splattered on the grass, and not a single one managed to survive the onslaught.
Then, after a moment, the soul devourer appeared next to the pile of corpses, the jet-black scythe drenched with a crimson substance.
"The next time you guys reincarnate, I mean!" Zeno stated, his voice dripped with sarcasm.
