The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 187: The Strongest
Chapter 187: The Strongest
"Liehj, what have you done?" Eimereen uttered, staring at her servant.
It all happened in a fraction of time that they all failed to react. Even Cinhard widened his eyes at the sudden development.
Afterward, Eimereen’s body disintegrated into fragments, and she reappeared next to the three-horned demon. She moved her gaze to the human, then knelt beside her and checked her pulse.
After several seconds, she lifted her head and looked in Cinhard’s direction.
"She’s dead," Eimereen said; there was a hint of panic present in her voice.
Meanwhile, Liehj couldn’t understand the disturbed expression on the Scale Sorceress’ face, so he stepped forward and spoke with confusion.
"What’s the matter, my Lady?" He asked, unaware of the fatality that he had done.
However, the response that he got was a menacing glare from Eimereen.
"This would be a disaster," she said while staring straight at the demon’s eyes.
Afterward, all of them glanced in a certain direction as they felt a familiar presence moving at unimaginable speed.
"He’s coming," Cinhard stated and looked at Eimereen.
"Leave with Liehj; I’ll handle him," he added, giving out a command.
"But my Lord—" Eimereen was about to say something; however, upon seeing how serious the Demon King was, she stopped her words from spilling out from her lips.
Thus, she stood up and put her hand on Liehj’s chest before their bodies disintegrated into fragments.
"As you wish," Eimereen’s voice reverberated for a second before the entirety of their presence vanished in the area.
In that particular moment, Cinhard stared at the black lightning zipping towards his direction and tightened the grip on his blade.
’To think that the time that I need to cross swords with you really has come,’ Cinhard thought, his eyes cold, yet there was some sort of excitement present in them.
He just stood still in his position and didn’t bother to raise his weapon. Seconds later, the black lightning passed alongside him, and a gust of wind followed, which made his clothes and hair flutter, dancing on its breeze.
Then, he turned around and looked at the man lifting the princess’ dead body.
"Arthur," Cinhard called him out, but he received no response.
He contemplated if he would convey to him the truth about her death, but upon thinking about it for another second, he dropped the idea as he could still be held accountable for what happened.
. . . . .
With a heavy feeling on his chest, Zeno raised Uoiea’s head while using his arm as a support. The princess’ eyes were still open, but they had already lost their sparkling brilliance. Thus, the demon closed them and wiped the bloodstains from the corner of her lips down to her chin.
He stared at her; her face had a trace of tranquility, and her body was still warm. If not for the wound and blood dripping down her chest, he would think that she was just asleep.
Despite not saying even a single word, the sadness and grief present in the demon’s eyes was enough to determine the level of pain he was experiencing at that moment.
Then, he pulled something out of his pocket; it was a simple bracelet with a white dice dangling as its ornament. He unclutched and put it around her wrist before giving her one last stare.
Afterward, he gently put her down and diverted his gaze to the entity standing from a distance.
"Cinhard," he uttered, and the color of his hair along with his eyes turned silver.
While the red dice hanging on his left ear started to spin, the moment it stopped, the surface with six white skulls emanated light.
The ground trembled while little pieces of pebbles rose up due to the extreme vibrations in the air. Then, when the demon stood up, jet-black chains started to wrap around his arm while a sword clad in chains all the way to its scabbard materialized on his hand.
In that moment, the Demon King squinted his eyes. It was the first time for him to see that weapon.
’What kind of sword is that?’ He contemplated as he prepared himself for the soul devourer’s rage.
However, seconds later, the strange weapon in Zeno’s hand disappeared as it was replaced by a jet-black scythe with its blade resting on his shoulder.
"Giving you a painless death wouldn’t calm my anger," Zeno stated, his voice cold and emotionless.
Then, he swirled the scythe around his hand, and the moment it stopped, Cinhard and his silhouette vanished in their positions.
Black lightning descended as Zeno called the King of Ogres’ name. It hit the soul devourer, and his appearance changed; his eyes and hair turned black once again while two small dots appeared underneath his right eye.
Meanwhile, Cinhard unleashed his towering flames. The burning sword clashed against the scythe clad with flickering electricity.
They were in a stalemate not until the soul devourer uttered another name.
"Jack," Zeno called out.
The Demon King was sent tumbling away, his body grazed on the scorched land as he received a straight punch from his general.
’Damn, King of Giants,’ Cinhard thought after spitting a mouthful of blood.
If not for his sword, receiving most of the impact, there would probably be a hole in his chest now. Thus, darkness began to loom around the area. As soon as he stepped forward, he disappeared and reappeared next to Zeno with his blade aiming for his neck.
However, the jet-black gauntlet welcomed him and struck his face in that split second, sending him flying once again.
"Forget about those petty tricks of yours; those are useless against me," Zeno Arthur declared, his voice condescending.
Then, he extended his left hand, and the gauntlets vanished as a jet-black bow materialized in front of him. Upon pulling the string backward, a jet-black arrow appeared on his fingertips.
With its pointed edge and shaft covered with lightning, it was launched towards the Demon King’s direction.
Cinhard glanced at the incoming projectile; his head was still spinning, and blood was oozing out from his nose when he vanished in the curtain of darkness.
The soul devourer roamed his eyes around, searching for his opponent’s whereabouts, but the domain—absolute darkness—acted as a perfect camouflage to mask the Demon King’s presence.
Thus, another name appeared written next to the Giant King’s name, and the black lightning along with the darkness disappeared.
Leodegario’s domain overthrew Cinhard’s and cancelled Chrysantheum’s and Jack’s Legacy, but despite this, the soul devourer let out a daunting smile after locating the Demon King’s position.
With a pair of jet-black daggers in his hands, he charged at Cinhard. Meanwhile, the Demon King clenched his fist and gritted his teeth in annoyance.
’My Legacy, what happened?’ He contemplated.
He attempted to summon back his domain, but no matter how many times he tried to, the absolute darkness failed to manifest.
This left him with no other choice; with his flames alone and the Translucent Inferno on his hand, he leaped upward and took the fight head-on.
Sword against daggers, flames versus brute strength; every time their weapons clashed, it produced ripples in the air enough to make the space between them shake in a violent manner.
Then, Zeno let go of one of his daggers and grabbed the burning blade; he ignored the scorching pain and pulled back his other hand, clenched it into a fist, aiming for Cinhard’s abdomen.
Upon seeing this, the Demon King used his grip on his blade as a support to spin his body upward, giving his general a swift kick, aiming at the temple of his head.
He managed to dodge the punch, but the silver-haired demon evaded his attack as well by letting go of his sword and moving a little backward.
A gap appeared between them, and Cinhard began to launch another attack. Blue flames burst forth as he shoved a giant ball of fire in Zeno’s direction. However, the soul devourer’s weapon changed into a scythe, split the fireball in half, and appeared unscathed from the sudden blast.
Upon seeing this development, hundreds of flaming spheres materialized around Cinhard, and they were hurled towards his opponent, bombarding him with explosions, but he didn’t stop with just those; he sent another wave after wave of fire slashes in Zeno’s direction.
However, the moment the smoke from the flame receded, the first thing that he noticed was a jet-black shield with a single white dot on its four corners. Then, a voice so cold reverberated across the area.
"Are you done?" Zeno asked, which made Cinhard take a step backward.
Unbeknownst to him, fear began to sprout at the back of his mind. At first, given the soul devourer’s lazy personality, he never saw him as his equal. He always believed that he was one step stronger than him in terms of strength and fighting capabilities.
However, after experiencing his prowess, Cinhard realized one thing: he wasn’t even close to his general in terms of strength.
He wasn’t the strongest after all; he was just hailed as the King of Demons due to the fact that the soul devourer had no interest in such a title.
With such a thought in his mind, Cinhard let out a laugh while shaking his head.
"No... I’m not accepting it! I, Cinhard Beelze, am the strongest, and that will never change!" He exclaimed before flames devoured the entirety of his body.
