The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 174: Let Them Go
Chapter 174: Let Them Go
Zeno stared at the projectile going straight at him.
"Brilliant blue like theirs," he uttered; curiosity was still present on his face.
The next second, his eyes squinted as the ball of fire accelerated and appeared inches right before him. A loud bang occurred, enough to obliterate the whole ground.
Dust and pebbles drifted in the open air, but the entity above didn’t stop as if not satisfied with the result. She launched several dozen more fireballs, bombarding the exact same place with a series of explosions.
However, when the curtain of smoke receded, a giant jet-black shield came into view. Afterward, the dice located at its center spun, and as soon as the surface with six white dots glowed, the shield vanished, and a jet-black arrow hovered towards Celestine.
The demon fox tilted her head a bit to dodge, then she lifted her hand, and the umbrella flew upward and stopped right beside her palm.
The moment she held it, its red canopy ignited, burning with blue flames.
The silver-haired demon leaped up and confronted Celestine.
"You smell nothing like that bastard, Cinhard, and those foxes have white hair, but you are completely different from them," Zeno stated as he examined the entity before him.
Celestine’s soft laughter resounded upon hearing the demon’s sentiment.
"I don’t know either, but one thing is for sure..." She paused and flicked the umbrella towards the demon.
"I now have what it takes to knock you down," she added, and the umbrella spun, creating a blazing whirlwind that moved in Zeno’s direction.
Its towering flames pulled everything inside its area of effect, including corpses.
"Feel my wrath!" Celestine exclaimed.
Then, her tails spread behind, and a small orb of flames gathered at their tips before they propelled to strike the silver-haired demon.
Zeno looked at the tornado and six projectiles coming at him at incredible speed.
"General!" Even Blackwell couldn’t help but worry.
After all, he knew how dangerous the blue flame was; even his scales would burn in no time upon contact with it.
However, Zeno didn’t move a single inch; he stood right there, as if waiting for his demise. The next second, the corner of his lips curled in an upward grin.
The red dice on his left ear spun, and the surface with five white skulls glowed.
"Eliana," he whispered.
Afterward, a pair of jet-black twin daggers appeared on both of his hands.
Then, he uttered another name. "Chrysantheum."
A flash of black lightning descended with him as the center. He vanished from his position and appeared right before the demon fox.
The dagger was nowhere to be seen; instead, a jet-black gauntlet covered his right hand, which was clenching in a fist and being pulled backwards.
Celestine was startled by his sudden appearance; her tails moved like they had their own thoughts and struck the demon.
However, Zeno didn’t pay it any attention; instead, he threw out a punch. As a defensive measure, Celestine used her tails to shield herself.
She gritted her teeth while bracing for the impact. She knew how powerful the demon’s punch was, but contrary to her expectation, the attack she was about to receive was a little bit different from what she experienced.
As the fist and tails collided, it created a powerful blast that sent shockwaves enough to extinguish the tornado of flames.
Celestine vanished on the spot; her body was blown into nothingness. On the other hand, Zeno stretched both of his hands upward, causing the sleeve of his coat to fall down.
His wrist was exposed, and a name written in red could be seen under Chrysantheum. A name filled with nothing but pure arrogance—Arguise—the Third Commander of the Fallen.
"Using Piero’s would be a bit troublesome; that foolish bull’s Legacy is the perfect fit," Zeno uttered.
Afterward, Celestine appeared next to him, but this time, her fox ears and tails were missing. She returned to her previous human form, though her eyes and the highlights on her hair remained cyan in color.
"W-What have you done?" She asked, stuttering while catching her breath.
Without averting her gaze from the demon, she leaped backward to create some distance between them.
"Nothing grand; I just make your energy burst inside your body. It just happened that you have so much to the point that it created a massive outburst," Zeno replied, explaining what he did.
"I’m surprised you still have energy left to resurrect," he added.
The next second, he charged towards the Enchantress. A jet-black scythe appeared swirling on his right hand.
"But I’m wondering if you would still have enough for another resurrection," he imparted.
Upon seeing him coming closer, Celestine summoned her umbrella to defend herself. Then, she tried to conjure a blue flame on her hand, but only a small ember appeared.
She was not that familiar with her newfound power; without being in her demon fox form, she could barely use the blue flames.
"Damn it," she snarled.
Fear could be seen present in her eyes. After suffering several deaths at the demon’s hand, even a thought about him made her shudder.
Celestine’s eyes widened upon seeing her umbrella hurled away as Zeno struck it sideways. She stared at the incoming scythe aiming at her neck and gulped.
She was about to lose her life in a short matter of time, but she couldn’t accept her demise.
’No, not yet!’ She exclaimed inside her mind.
By gathering all the energy left in her body, she managed to summon a ball of fire and aimed it at the demon’s head.
"Die!" She yelled, her voice tinged with hatred.
However, the flame diminished inches away from the demon. The enchantress’ eyes shrank in size while her mouth was left partially open. Without a single trace of energy inside, her body began to tremble, and she felt her head spinning, suffering from energy burnout.
Then, before collapsing and falling on the ground, the jet-black scythe reached her neck; a droplet of blood dripped on its blade, but it failed to cut deeper as a hand grabbed the scythe’s shaft, preventing it from slicing any further.
Zeno looked at the old man who held and carried the enchantress in his arms. A long white beard dangled underneath his chin while his loose white robe was drenched with blood, its sleeves and hem dancing in every breeze.
"Forgive my sudden intrusion, General, but I’m like a father to this child; I can’t watch her suffer any longer," the old man articulated, smiling.
Zeno stared at him for a second, his eyes cold and lifeless.
He retracted the scythe and spoke with a tone filled with annoyance.
"Why are you guys keeping on sprouting like a wild mushroom? Can you just come and attack me all at once?" Zeno asked.
Afterward, the man with the black spiky hair appeared behind him.
"General, that’s Professor Sid, the person behind those corrupted ones," Blackwell informed the silver-haired demon.
Upon hearing this, Zeno snapped his right fingers.
"I almost forgot about that!" He exclaimed as if recalling something important.
Then, a gentle smile flashed on his face, but the energy he released was in contrast. Even Blackwell felt suffocated due to how intense it was.
"Hey old man! Do you know a beetle-like monster?" He asked, still smiling.
Professor Sid caressed his beard with his free hand, thinking. The extreme pressure made him choke, but he remained calm and composed. Then, he glanced at Blackwell but diverted his eyes to the demon the next second.
"Perhaps you are thinking of Number One Hundred Thirty-One?" He answered, curious about the general’s sudden question.
"So you really know him. Then we have nothing to talk about," Zeno replied.
Afterward, black lightning jolted downward, targeting the old man; however, a five-layer barrier materialized above the professor. Then, a man dressed in a mage robe and a woman with denim-colored hair appeared behind the old man.
"Hello. Do you remember me?" Djaleryse asked, winking at Zeno.
However, upon seeing him not give her even a glance, she pouted and diverted her gaze at the unconscious enchantress.
"Oh my dear Celestine, you truly showed her no mercy," she added, teasing.
Meanwhile, the mage stared at the man behind the demon.
"Traitor," he grumbled, but Blackwell ignored his provocation.
The next second, a magic circle took shape underneath the group. Zeno was about to move to shatter it when a voice rang inside his head.
’Let them go for now, please,’ it said, begging.
The demon furrowed his brows, and then he noticed a woman cloaked in a white hood, standing near a broken wall, several distances away from him.
’Telepathy?’ He thought.
Afterward, the magic circle lit up, and Professor Sid bid his farewell. Zeno averted his gaze from the woman and looked at them.
"I’m already tired from the previous scuffle, so please let this old body rest for a while until we cross paths again, General!" He stated before their group vanished into thin air.
At the same time, Zeno went towards the woman’s direction; he descended in front of her. He placed the jet-black scythe beside her neck, but upon seeing her, didn’t panic at all; he retracted its blade.
The weapon returned to its neutral form, fidgeting between his fingers.
"Ave Gayle Asteria, the Celestial Seer," Zeno mentioned her name.
Then, the woman pulled back her hood. An angelic face with long auburn hair came into view. Her eyes stared at the demon for a few seconds before she opened up her lips.
"You’re the one looking for me, aren’t you? I’m certain of it," she uttered with a voice pleasant to the ear.
