The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 162: Enchantress of Time
Chapter 162: Enchantress of Time
Deus, the proud Grandmaster of the Magic Tower, turned into a human statue along with the countless others on the premises.
In a world where time was forcefully stopped, Celestine opened up her umbrella and leaped in Deus’ direction. She looked at the two grimoires left suspended in the air.
"What’s the point of being an eight-circle mage if you can’t cast even a basic spell?" She said with a hint of mockery.
Then she grabbed the grimoires with the thought of tearing them apart. However, as soon as her hand touched the book, it let out a faint light, returning back the lost color of the grayscale world. After that, the old man regained his freedom, escaping the clutches of being frozen in time. He looked at the enchantress with a satisfying grin.
This made Celestine startle; her mouth partially opened. She retracted her arm and leaped backward, keeping a few distances from Deus.
"I-It can’t be. H-How?" She mumbled, surprised about what happened.
With the exception of that outrageous silver-haired demon, for the first time in her life, someone at last found a way to escape her domineering Legacy.
"You’re making a very good impression just now, young lady," Deus teased her, laughing during the process.
Afterward, several magic circles emanating a crimson hue surrounded the enchantress, while its intricate runes were glowing in a tapestry of white and gold. Celestine didn’t waste a single second; she moved backward, escaping from the imminent danger ahead. However, a transparent barrier enveloped her, along with the tens of magic circles, blocking her escape route.
With a petrifying gaze, he glared at the old man, but her figure soon disappeared as smoke from several explosions occupied the entire barrier.
Deus stroked his beard, his eyes staring at the dispersing smoke. But the next second, his brows furrowed upon seeing the young woman emerge unscathed. Not a single trace of burn could be seen, even in her clothes.
"Well, I guess I should expect this much from the strongest pillar of the Magic Tower," Celestine said.
Her voice reverberated with a complacent tone, though she was still curious about how her Legacy got cancelled. So she opened her lips once more.
"I suppose I deserve an explanation on how this magic spell works," she conveyed while looking at the small magic circle floating in front of her chest.
She had no complex understanding of how a magic spell worked, and as she tried to reactivate her Legacy earlier, the runes inside the circle shone brighter, and a white-colored chain was hurled from it, which pierced her chest. Though she felt no pain, her Legacy failed to activate.
Upon hearing her question, a faint smile appeared on Deus’ face. As a magic scholar, he was proud of every single spell he researched and created, and having it explained to his enemy was not prohibited from his perspective, so he gladly answered the enchantress’ curiosity.
"That magic spell is called Void’s Embrace; it was especially designed for you to prevent you from using your Legacy," he started explaining.
"After that incident a few years ago, I delved myself deeper into research on how to counter a monster like you. Your ability to stop and rewind time is beyond our comprehension," he said, and even pointed his finger at the temple of his forehead.
"To know better about your abilities, we were forced to study time magic, but the best that we could do was to slow it for mere seconds. I almost gave up, if not for that person..." He paused for a while, his eyes gleaming with appreciation.
"Someone left a journal with descriptive information about Legacies. His studies helped us in creating a spell enough to nullify a Legacy," he added, nodding.
Meanwhile, Celestine was all ears, listening to the old man’s mumbling, satisfying her curiosity.
"However, it’s still incomplete. Its activation requires a certain action; the target needs to hold the grimoire where its chant is written. My action earlier was purely a gamble, hoping for you to touch my grimoire; if you had killed me first earlier, I would be a laughing stock by now," Deus stated, ending his tedious explanation.
Celestine nodded, somewhat satisfied by what she learned, and the next moment, the edges of her lips curled upward.
"So are you implying that with this thing here present, you’ll be able to defeat me?" She asked while looking straight into the old man’s eyes.
Then she let go of her umbrella, letting it rest on her left shoulder, and clapped a few times.
"I appreciate the effort, but you are nothing even without my domain," she said.
The smile on her face vanished as it was replaced by a more sinister grin. Afterward, she tossed the umbrella in the old man’s direction.
It spun in mid-air, making its canopy acquire enough force to cut anything in its path. However, Deus didn’t even flinch; a barrier made of wind protected him, repelling the umbrella.
Then he raised his hand, and a magic circle with runes glowing in a light yellow hue appeared above Celestine. Afterward, flashes of lightning jolted downward. It destroyed the building where the enchantress was standing, but the next second, she appeared right above Deus, unscathed from the barrage of thunderstrikes. The sole of her left foot struck the old man’s barrier, shattering it into tiny particles. Then, with the umbrella as her foothold, she spun around, giving the old man a kick on the chest, strong enough to send him flying.
Deus was sent several meters away and was about to hit a wall; however, he managed to summon another set of barriers behind him, which slowed down his momentum.
"You’re really troublesome to deal with," he uttered; frustration could be seen in his eyes.
"Heh? It’s you who’s the problem, not me. Did you really think we came here unprepared?" Celestine said upon landing a meter away from Deus.
Then she let out a yawn, and a hint of disgust could be seen present in her eyes.
"I am here because... despite being hailed as the strongest mage, you’re the weakest in terms of combat; you’re an eighth class, but your spells are not suitable for an individual fight," she smirked.
Then she took a step forward and raised her hand during the process.
"There’s no way I’ll lose against someone who fights from the backline," she said.
The next moment, she waved her hand downward, and the umbrella suspended in midair was hurled to the old man’s position.
It all happened in a fraction of a second; however, Deus still managed to block the umbrella. However, the strength of his barrier was not enough to repel the spinning force of its canopy.
Cracks soon appeared before it broke down into pieces; though, that split second of time was enough for Deus to move backward.
He looked at Celestine, his eyes furrowing in hesitation. He didn’t expect that the woman in front of him could fight so well. He regained his composure, standing straight while stroking his chin.
"You really did your assignment; as a reward, I’ll go all out just this once," he stated.
The next second, a huge magic circle appeared underneath Celestine. Its diameter was enough for a hundred people to fit in.
Upon seeing this, the enchantress rolled her eyes and sighed.
"Are you not getting tired of these boring tricks?" Celestine snarled.
However, Deus didn’t respond to her provocation. Instead, he focused on what he was doing. Thick, large chains were shot up from the magic circle. It wrapped around Celestine’s whole body, restraining her movements.
The next second, twenty magic circles began to materialize above her. It started small, while the last of it was almost the size of the one underneath her. It looked like an inverted tower whose floors were built by magic circles. It was a sight to behold. Different runes could be seen on each of them while their colors varied, starting from black and ending with white.
"This! This is my strongest spell; it can annihilate an entire battalion of demons and can even one-shot a dragon!" Deus exclaimed, boasting how incredible his magic was.
The next second, all the magic circles lit up, and the surroundings trembled as ripples of energy were sent in all directions.
However, despite this outlandish situation, Celestine remained calm; she showed no sign of anxiety or fear. As if trying to predict what would happen next, she stared at the scene while her peach-colored eyes dazzled with excitement.
. . . . .
Meanwhile, in a ravine with unusual terrain, a man with eyes glowing in a golden-colored hue was standing on a large boulder. On his left hand was a beastman’s head with its blood dripping on the surface.
"Imbecile," he uttered, his face void of any emotion.
He was looking in the open sky when cracks started to appear across the horizon, and the next second, the surroundings started to crumble into pieces, destroying everything apart.
