The Demon King's First General
Chapter 152: Parade of Monsters

Chapter 152: Parade of Monsters

A building made of concrete and iron walls, with one of its wings partially destroyed, caught Zeno and Sinclair’s eyes. They reached their target location at last.

The Stylist of Justice halted and extended her right hand sideways to stop the demon on his track.

"Wait a second," she said in a low voice, doing her best to conceal her presence.

The atmosphere around the place was eerie, and the deepening silence was enough to make Sinclair’s heart beat in worry. She felt no movement at all.

"Did they abandon this place? Where are they?" She fretted in a low voice.

Meanwhile, Zeno didn’t bother himself to listen to Sinclair’s mumbling. He glanced at his right wrist, and his lips curled into a smirk.

’I’m not used to this; after all, Eliana’s Legacy is way too convenient if maximized properly. Lending it to her is the best choice,’ he thought upon seeing the name written in red capital letters with a horizontal line in the middle.

. . . . .

The continuous explosion still reverberated above the lake, but the state of the battle was not the same as before, as the revenant mentioned.

The man in black was on the run; blood was oozing out from several holes in his body.

"Damn it! What the hell happened? Why did her attack patterns suddenly change?" He exclaimed, cursing in annoyance.

The swarm of fireflies was still surrounding him, but the barrage of blood icicles was able to penetrate his defenses. The heat from the sudden burst of explosions was not enough to melt the revenant’s frozen blood, so he had no choice but to evade and parry the attacks.

However, for some unknown reason, Ruq could predict his every move as if she could read his mind, and like this time, another icicle came chasing behind him. He stepped to his right to dodge and prepare himself to parry the attack in front, but the moment he moved, he felt another excruciating torment as an ice spear struck him on the back.

He coughed a mouthful of blood, but due to the pain, his mind went blank for a second and failed to parry the icicle that came back. He was struck once again in the chest, and the platform of energy where he was standing shattered.

He was about to fall into the lake, but the swarm of fireflies lifted him up into the air.

’I need to run away and heal first,’ the man thought.

Feeling flustered, he summoned all of his swarm and divided them into two, then gave commands to each group. The first group was to accompany him and secure his escape, while the others were tasked with holding back the revenant.

Meanwhile, Ruq had a strange smile on her face while standing on a part of the lake that she had frozen. She was maintaining a good distance from the man. Both of her wrists were dripping with blood, merging into the chilling mist. Then, with just a wave of her hand, several red icicles formed in the air.

"This is amazing; I can see it; I can see all of his next movements as if I’m seeing several seconds into the future," she whispered, smiling while staring at the white circular line several meters away from her.

"The ripples of the lake, the drifting of clouds, the leaves swaying from the cold wind, everything—I can sense everything inside that line," she added, touching her neck.

She couldn’t see it, but she definitely felt it before. When she was still under the water, something was carved on her neck.

Then she reverted her gaze to her opponent. Thousands of fireflies were moving towards her at an unimaginable speed, and the flickering lights at their backs were enough to mesmerize her.

"Beautiful creatures, but those lights are such a pain, they would be better destroyed," Ruq stated.

With a flick of her fingers, the red icicles around her shattered into tiny needles of ice, matching the number of swarms.

"I need to kill them before they detonate," she uttered, and the needles were hurled forward, piercing each insect’s head with unbelievable accuracy.

Then, the lights hovering above the lake diminished before vanishing completely.

"What?!" The man exclaimed, surprised by what happened.

The other group of his fireflies died, and not a single one exploded.

"Did she kill them all without hitting a single lantern? N-No... N-no! That’s impossible," he stuttered, unable to believe his sudden thoughts.

But like a nightmare that became real, the fireflies accompanying him started to lose their lights and fell down one after another.

Upon seeing this scene and realizing how doomed he was, he turned around and detonated all of his fireflies, creating a big and powerful explosion. This lit up the entire sky above the lake.

Then, the man’s voice echoed throughout the place.

"I couldn’t believe I was forced to use these," he said.

As soon as the smoke dispersed and vanished bit by bit, ten flickering blue lights appeared.

The swarm of insects was now nowhere to be seen; instead, just ten fireflies were floating around him. Aside from the blue lights, there was nothing noteworthy about the insects.

"Heh? Is that your last resort?" Ruq questioned from afar, still maintaining a good distance away from the powerful blast.

"Then, let me end that suffering of yours," she stated, but the fireflies changed appearances were giving her doubt.

Despite having this irregular feeling, she still waved her hand, and several ice needles made from her blood materialized around her. With just a single thought, they were all sent in the man’s direction.

As a response, the man raised his arm and gave his command to the fireflies; however, despite putting most of his energy into it, the little insects didn’t even flinch in their place.

"Why are you not moving? Obey me!" He exclaimed in anger, but nothing had changed.

Blinded by rage and lost in his thoughts, the ice needles struck him one after the other, with the last one piercing him on the head.

"W-why? I-I did nothing wrong," he stuttered, before his body slowly fell down into the lake.

His eyes were filled with questions as he glanced at the silhouette above the clouds.

Despite what happened to their master, the fireflies remained, though it only lasted for a few seconds. They flew up the moment a whistle echoed in the sky.

It was not that loud but was enough to garner Ruq’s attention, and when she raised her head to see to whom the sound belonged, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped in astonishment.

"A-am I seeing things?" She questioned herself, unable to believe the scene that transpired before her eyes.

Despite having Eliana’s legacy, she failed to sense the parade of creatures up above the clouds. Hundreds of silhouettes were gazing at her. From the tiny eyes of goblins up to the huge basilisks, there were even silhouttes of dragons and monsters she couldn’t recognize. However, it was not them that caused her concern.

In the middle of this parade, there was a woman sitting on a wyvern’s claw. She was looking at the revenant with excitement plastered on her face. Then, as the ten fireflies came up and joined the ranks of monsters, she stood up from her seat.

Upon witnessing this scene, Ruq inhaled a deep breath to calm herself. The chilling mist around her became thicker, and the temperature continued to drop even further. The next second, icicles began to form behind Ruq with the mist as its cover; however, before they materialized in full, the parade of monsters above faded into the darkness, leaving the revenant with confusion.

"W-who... was that?" Ruq asked herself once again, checking if her eyes were not playing tricks on her.

But it was real; with just a blink, the silhouttes vanished without leaving a single trace of their presence.

Afterward, upon checking the movements in the vicinity and confirming her safety, Ruq laid back on the ice; her energy was dwindling faster than she expected due to Eliana’s Legacy. The blood on her wrists was now frozen, and the burns on her body were starting to heal while the name carved on her neck began to disappear.

Even though she was a kind of undead, she felt tired, so she closed her eyes and covered them with her right arm. Then her blue lips curled into a smile.

"Did you see that? I win," she uttered.

. . . . .

Meanwhile, somewhere deep inside a forest, a blue-scaled wyvern landed, and a woman hopped down from its back.

"Djaleryse, you’re back at last! The others are waiting," a beastman said upon approaching while munching an arm.

"Did you just kill another subject? You really love to garner the professor’s wrath, aren’t you?" Djaleryse expressed, shaking her head in disgust.

"Don’t be like that; this one here is a failed product; the professor won’t even bat an eye," the beastman answered before letting out a laugh.

Then, after munching all the flesh away from the bone, the beastman threw the remains to the side and looked into the woman’s eyes.

"Strannard won’t accompany us," he said.

Djaleryse didn’t reply; she just stared at the beastman, waiting for his next set of words.

"He’ll welcome the Demon King’s General. If I learned about it earlier, maybe I would be the one to stay," the beastman added, with a sigh of disappointment.

"I would not ask for it if I were you." The woman chuckled for a little while, then made a step forward and tiptoed to reach the beastman’s ear.

"I almost got killed by that demon just now," she whispered with a teasing smile.
