The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 141: Waking Up
Chapter 141: Waking Up
’A human is with a demon... How?’ Sinclair thought.
Amazement and shock could be seen written on her face. She slowly stood up and faced the silver-haired man, fidgeting with black dice between his fingers.
"Who are you? Why is a demon acting pretty close with humans? State your reasons!" She bombarded Zeno with questions while pointing her blade into him.
Her deep resentment towards the demon race couldn’t accept this reality.
With a smile at the corner of his lips, Zeno answered while walking closer. "Just traveling companions, nothing more, nothing less."
The next second, his gaze roamed around them.
"You made quite a mess," he said.
"I’m pretty sure you’re aware that these people are one of your kind," Sinclair replied.
"Indeed, there’s a few traces of demonic presence left on their bodies; however, they were humans to begin with, corrupted to be exact," Zeno said upon reaching a few inches away from the blade pointed at him.
He raised his hand to touch it before giving it a gentle push downward.
"Please satisfy my curiosity. Tell me what happened," he stated while looking straight into the woman’s eyes.
Several seconds passed, but Sinclair kept her silence. The two of them were deadlocked in a staring contest, but as Sinclair felt a little hand grab the helm of her ragtag clothes, she averted her gaze and looked at the child.
Upon seeing that the young boy nodded, Sinclair smiled and gulped.
"After calling me a hero of the past, I know you recognized me. Yes! The name is Sinclair Autumn, one of the Seven Apostles," she stated as soon as she looked back into those lifeless eyes.
"If you wanted to know how I’m still alive, I don’t know either..." She paused for a second and glanced at the mountain of corpses before continuing.
"But these people, I can tell you everything about them," she said.
"I woke up in a place I couldn’t believe existed." And without hesitation, she began retelling the events she encountered the moment her eyes opened.
. . . . .
Several months ago, in a room where dozens of circular glass containers could be found, silence enveloped the entire area until the giant door opened and footsteps could be heard.
An old man strode inside; his long beard was dancing on his every step, and upon reaching a certain glass container, he stopped, and a smile flashed across his face.
A woman curled up in a ball was inside the glass, which was filled with a blue liquid substance.
"Breathing, normal. Heart rate, normal," the old man hummed in happiness while stroking his beard.
"She’ll wake up soon; I need to prepare," he added.
Then after, he continued walking and examined each of the remaining glass containers; however, none of them piqued his interest for the moment. He clicked his tongue in disappointment and left.
However, as soon as the door shut down, a pair of eyes opened.
At the very end of the room, where the light was dim, a woman looked at herself. She was naked, and several cords were injected into her body. Even though she was submerged in a strange liquid, she couldn’t find breathing difficult.
’Where am I? Am I still alive? How?’ The woman thought.
Question after question popped up inside her mind.
’The last thing I could remember was the blade of the third sovereign passing through my throat.’ She tried recalling the events of how she ended up in that place, but her clouded memory couldn’t provide her with any answers.
’This won’t do; I’m pretty sure I died back then, but... How am I here in this place?’ She questioned herself.
The next second, she observed the room; each container had one entity inside. Most of them had different appearances and figures, but they all had one thing in common: a presence the woman hated the most.
’Demons,’ she thought.
It was faint, but for someone who fought thousands of demons, this was suffocating.
The woman tried to free herself from the chords of the containers, but her strength wasn’t enough even for such an ample task.
’I must escape, but I need to recover first. Until I regain enough power to break my way out, I shall remain undiscovered,’ she depicted.
And with that conclusion on her mind, she closed her eyes, waiting for the right moment to strike.
. . . . .
Days passed by, and the atmosphere inside the room was still the same. Those beings who woke up from slumber were brought outside by men clad in black, and the empty containers were soon refilled with another batch of bodies.
The woman observed in silence; she could eliminate the men in black, but she couldn’t think the same when it came to the old man, who always went from time to time to check everyone in the glass containers.
’I still can’t win against him,’ the woman thought as she continued observing the room.
The next few seconds, another being regained consciousness. The glass was shattered as the entity slammed it with a punch.
His eyes were burning gold, and his hair was as black as the moonless night sky. Small pieces of shards wounded his body, and as soon as he fell on the floor, the men in black rushed in.
They captured the man, but he kept on struggling to free himself; however, his strength was not enough, even just to shake those arms locking him from behind.
With a single strike on his nape, the man lost consciousness and was dragged outside the room.
The woman watched things unfold while doing her best not to capture the men’s attention.
’What exactly is going on here?’ She thought, now more curious than before.
These scenes continued as the days went by until the woman saw an opportunity to escape.
It was when the beastman caged in the glass container next to hers woke up. The half-human, half-rhinocerus being wreaked havoc the moment he opened his eyes, destroying everything on his path, including the woman’s glass container. The men on duty had difficulty subduing the beastman. Chaos descended inside the room, and the number of glass containers being shattered continued to increase, yet the old man was still nowhere to be seen.
"Demons coveting my body? Can you handle the consequences?" The beastman exclaimed as he charged into the group of men.
His broad shoulders sent everyone he bumped flying on the walls, while the iron tusk on his snout skewered those who tried to stop his track.
Blood splattered in the room, and the men on duty were forced to distance themselves from the beastman.
Meanwhile, during this heated moment, the woman who was just observing how things would unfold finally made her move. She slowly rose to the ground; her aquamarine eyes, which showcased calmness, shone brightly, and her cherry blossom-colored hair swayed at her naked back.
She made a little step forward, and this was enough to gather all the pairs of eyes present in the room to stare at her with curiosity.
"Another one just woke up; we need to notify the professor," one of the men in black stated.
"So he’s really not here; I can’t feel his presence at all," the woman whispered as she placed her hand in the middle of her chest.
Afterward, a strange light burst forth as she pulled something out of her body. This scene blinded all of those present inside the room for a second.
And that little bit of time was enough to behead all the men clad in black clothing. Their heads rolled on the floor while their bodies were still standing still, and a fountain of blood gushed out from their severe necks.
The beastman’s eyes widened in surprise upon witnessing the woman’s might, but his amazed expression slowly turned into joy.
’My enemies’ enemy is a friend,’ he thought while looking at the woman who was coming closer to him.
"A strong one! What’s your—" He was in the middle of expressing his admiration towards the woman when the being in front of him disappeared and his vision turned upside down.
"For justice, extinguish the demons," the woman uttered, looking at the beastman’s headless corpse.
Then she closed her eyes, concentrating on feeling all the presence inside the room.
"Aside from the other beings still inside the container, all the demons present were killed," she murmured.
Afterward, she inhaled a deep breath and destroyed all the remaining glass containers. She spared nothing. All of the bodies inside were cut in half; even the machines inside the facility were sliced apart.
Soon enough, another batch of men clad in black clothing entered. Upon seeing the state of the room, each of them stared at the one they thought was the culprit—an unclothed woman holding a giant scissor.
"Subdue her!" One of the men shouted.
His command acted like a catalyst for the others. They charged towards the woman with their respective weapons at hand. However, the woman’s body flickered continuously, creating several afterimages of herself before approaching her opponent one by one, giving each of them a stab in the center of their chest.
Then, as soon as the last man fell, the woman walked out of the room, and the blood of her enemies was dripping from her body.
