The Demon King's First General
Chapter 127: Where It All Started

Chapter 127: Where It All Started

"I’m sorry, don’t mind me. I didn’t mean to wake you up from your nap. I just want to hide here for the time being while waiting for my comrades." The woman apologized and stated her reason for being in that place.

Despite her words, she remained on guard; her hands were ready to pull out the daggers at any second. After all, it was common not to trust anyone, especially in a place like a forest.

But the man returned to his previous position; he lied on the ground with his eyes closed. He didn’t pay any attention to the woman at all.

Upon seeing this, the princess let out a smile and went to the shade of another tree to rest. She sat down and began to admire her surroundings the moment she roamed her eyes around.

A pond where different small monsters could be seen drinking captured her attention.

"How beautiful is it if we can just live like them despite having different races?" The princess said out of nowhere.

Then she removed the veil from her face, put it beside her, and took a glance at the man lying in comfort under the tree shade. She carefully examined the man’s facial features, from his silver hair down to his pointed, straight nose, and after her eyes landed on those sexy lips of his, her cheeks became hot in an instant.

Despite living her whole life as the empire’s princess and meeting many princes who had great looks, none of them could make her face flush red.

’Silver hair... I’ve never met a person with that hair color aside from him,’ she thought.

Then, the wind blew, and the thin clothing at her side was lifted up. She reached for it, but she was a few centimeters short to prevent it from flying away.

Seconds later, the veil landed on the man’s abdomen, but the man paid no attention to this. He remained motionless. Given this fact, the princess stood up to retrieve her thing.

She strode in the man’s direction, careful not to disturb him any further, and upon closing the distance between them, she sat down in a graceful manner and extended her hand to pick up the veil.

With the thoughts of being too near the man, the princess couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at his face.

’How could a man be as handsome as this?’ She thought.

The next second, she got the veil and folded it into her hand before focusing her eyes on the dazzling existence at her side once more.

The princess forgot about the time that passed as she just stared at the sleeping young man.

"Are you still not done memorizing every line on my face?" The man spoke all of a sudden, which made the princess’ heart flutter in embarrassment.

Afterward, he opened his eyes and sat up. This action of his erased the gap between their faces. They became so close that they could hear each other’s breathing.

The princess’ eyes widened by this sudden development, but it lasted for a second as she noticed something peculiar about the man.

"Your eyes..." She mumbled.

They were not detestable, but not attractive either.

"Lifeless... No, they are filled with sadness," she added.

Then, she covered her mouth with her hand as she just realized the things that she said.

"I-I, I’m sorry, i-it’s just a slip of the tongue," she stuttered, explaining, and even fell on her butt while gesturing with her other hand.

Her cheeks blushed red, and she felt steam escaping from the tips of her ears, especially when the man turned his head to the left before standing up.

"You should leave this place right now; there are people coming this way, and I believe that they are not the ones you’re waiting for," the man said.

Afterward, he turned around to face the woman. His face was still void of any emotion. Both of them stared at each other before the princess replied with a question.

"Are they hostile?" She asked while standing up.

She threw all of her previous thoughts and embarrassment at the back of her mind upon seeing that the man nodded without a second thought.

"Then, leave with me!" She exclaimed.

After hearing the woman’s proposal, the man’s lips parted a few inches in disbelief. He was about to reply when a sudden burst of bloodlust made the little monsters drinking in the pond scram.

"Let’s go," the princess said, and then she didn’t hesitate to grab and pull the man’s hand.

’There’s no way a human can produce such bloodlust; I’m pretty sure they are demons,’ she thought while running.

Meanwhile, the man just let his feet move, keeping up with the woman’s pace. He looked into the soft hand holding his before diverting his eyes towards the woman’s back, or the small orb of life floating inside, to be exact.

He was confused; after living for a long time, he had seen countless souls, yet it was the very first time he saw something different. After all, souls had a blue color, and once extracted from their shells, some turned white while the others remained the same. This indicated the purity of the soul; the whiter it was, the more attractive it became from a soul-devourer’s perspective. However, the woman’s soul already had a pure white color, despite still being inside its shell. Just with this thought alone, a smile sprung from the man’s lips.

. . . . .

"Uoiea," Zeno uttered as soon as he opened his eyes.

He was lying on a bed inside a room. It was dark, and no light was coming from the window, indicating that it was nighttime.

The red dice hanging on his left ear spun and glowed after he thought of Eliana’s name. With Eliana’s Legacy, he scanned the premises he was in. He was inside the Frostbloom Kingdom’s castle.

He tried to search for a certain presence, but he detected nothing.

’Was it just a dream? Even the Hexad is gone,’ he thought.

Then he looked at his side and saw the old locket along with his folded coat placed on a table. He stood up and put on his coat, then stared at the locket for a second before shoving it in his pocket.

The next second, the door opened and the lights turned on before Kizeler appeared right in front of Zeno.

"You finally wake up! It has been three days since you passed out," Kizeler started a conversation.

"That long?" Zeno exclaimed, unable to believe what the human had said.

Kizeler nodded, smiling as if teasing the demon.

"What happened? Really? You collapsed right in front of Princess Uoiea," the human answered.

Zeno froze for a moment upon the mention of the name.

"Did you just say Uoiea?" He replied, his eyes staring at Kizeler like a sharp knife.

Even though he was confused about the demon’s sudden reaction, Kizeler still nodded in affirmation.

"She nursed you back then, waiting for you to regain consciousness, but the moment the emperor showed up, she had no choice but to return with him," Kizeler explained.

Upon hearing this, Zeno sat down and massaged the temple of his head.

’Then I was not hallucinating back then," he thought.

The next second, he looked up and let out a hollow laugh.

"For her to get reincarnated and be at the perfect age the moment I returned to this world! What an amusing thing! Those ignorant fools are really brewing something interesting," he said.

Afterward, he glanced at the confused human beside him.

"Kizeler, forget about the empire in the meantime; we’ll have a change of plan," he stated.

"But we’re just a kingdom away from the heart of the empire," Kizeler argued.

He was digesting the words he heard from Zeno, yet he couldn’t understand a single thing.

"We’ll just take a new route; we’ll go to the north of the Plain of Fantasies first; there’s someone I need to find there," Zeno replied, then he stood up and walked towards the window.

The sky was dim as clouds prevented the radiance from the stars and moon from reaching the land.

"Who?" Kizeler asked, his eyebrows frowning.

"A deity," Zeno answered while staring at the midnight sky.

. . . . .

"Here! Let’s stop right here! I think we already run far enough to escape from them," the princess said while catching her breath.

Then she noticed that she was still holding the man’s hand, which made her feel hotter than before. All this while, since the moment they ran, she held the man, so upon realizing this, she immediately let go of his hand and acted like it was nothing.

After exhaling a deep breath and calming her thoughts, she turned around to face the man.

"Are you fine? I’m sorry for dragging you along without knowing your answer," she expressed.

"How many times will you keep saying sorry?" The man replied.

This caught the princess off guard, and a smile blossomed from her lips, enhancing her beauty. Afterward, she tucked her disaligned hair behind her ear and extended her hand.

"Uoiea," she introduced herself.

However, seconds passed, and the man just stared at the hand, which resulted in the woman’s discomfort. She let out one more smile to hide her uneasiness and was about to pull back her arm when the man grabbed it at the very last second.

"The name is Zeno," he said.

Despite them choosing not to introduce who they really were, both of their intentions were pure. One was to know more about the other, while the other wanted nothing but to satisfy curiosity regarding that one’s existence.
