Chapter 107: Most Underrated Element

"What are they doing?" The Ruby-class mercenary asked while watching the demon standing still and the monster acting strange.

"It’s the effect of this domain..." Royle answered, then continued as he raised his hand and observed the endless droplets of rain falling into his palm.

"But how?" He said, confused by the situation.

"How what?" The Ruby-class replied, directing his gaze toward the man beside him.

"This Legacy... it belongs to him like that lightning," Jez chimed in on the conversation.

The mercenary’s eyes widened, and his jaw dropped upon hearing the duke’s revelation.

"T-two Legacies? He has two Legacies?" He exclaimed.

The surprised look on his face showed his amazement at the sudden knowledge.

No one from the group nodded; they were all dumfounded aside from the woman beside them. Then after a while, they heard a chuckle from the psychopomp, whose eyes were staring at the demon.

"It’s not a surprise to see a soul devourer have two Legacies; some others can even use three," she said, which brought silence to the entire group.

’And there is also that man who can command six Legacies at the same time,’ she thought.

"I’m tired of hearing this soul devourer since earlier. Can you tell us who they are in the first place?" Royle said, asking for the woman to share her knowledge.

"If we, psychopomps, are the guides of souls back to the river of reincarnation, soul devourers are our counterparts, a soul eaten by them would never have the chance to reincarnate and would disappear for all eternity. We referred to them as one of the cardinal demon races—creatures that are hungry for the souls of the living just to attain more power," she explained.

"Cardinal demon race? Never heard of that," Royle said while shaking his head.

"That’s another long story," Heaire replied after taking a moment to glance at the human.

Then, as soon as a smile blossomed on her lips, teasing the men around him, she continued to speak.

"Soul devourers have the ability to use another being’s Legacy by extracting and consuming its soul, though it will only last for a certain period of time, and they can never use that soul’s ability anymore," she said.

"But with the help of artifacts, they managed to store and preserve souls. They even kept them from dissipating after use," she added before inhaling a deep breath.

"That red dice, it’s the thing you’re talking about, am I correct?" Jez uttered, and the woman nodded upon hearing him.

"Other races were wary and afraid of them until that day... When another cardinal demon race, which was led by a sovereign, saw an opportunity to wipe their existence from the world, they didn’t let the chance to pass by," Heaire conveyed before inhaling a deep breath.

"And that’s not a surprise; even the deities wanted all of them dead," she added.

Upon the mention of the word sovereign, the humans knitted their brows; they all thought about the scene earlier. If they were not mistaken, the monster that the demon killed before was about to call him a sovereign.

They wanted to ask more, but their talk was interrupted when the giant pillar created a loud bang after it fell on the raging water of the swamp.

. . . . .

Half of the rat monsters were annihilated by the explosion of water, while the others who managed to survive were chained at their respective places, taking away their freedom to move. Then the bubbles continued to emerge from the puddle of water, and they kept flying towards the sea of little monsters.

"It looks like your time is up," Zeno uttered, his eyes looking at the giant piece of soil slowly getting eaten by the flood.

"Now! Greet your master!" He ordered afterward, the smile on his face reaching his ears.

"Do you really think I, Ratniss, will abide by your command?" The voice came out from each of the rats in the vicinity.

"I think you should, unless you really want to die badly," the demon commented.

"Even those deities do not dare to order me around," Ratniss added, and green liquid began to envelope every rat monster.

"Does it look like I care about that?" Zeno asked.

Then the smile on his face vanished, and the hundreds of bubbles remained suspended in mid-air while the rain stopped pouring. The next second, the bubbles merged into one and grew in size.

"There’s no point in keeping a servant that will soon bite his master," Zeno said.

However, all of the rats’ attention was on the giant bubble wiggling above them. It continued to grow bigger every time it absorbed another bubble.

"Do you know that water is the most underrated element?" The demon asked once more.

"It is mostly used in healing and defending at some point; it has not enough destructive power like fire; it’s so fragile that it scattered after hitting a wall, unlike a firm piece of land; it’s not fast and nimble as the wind either..." He paused in answering his own question and lifted his head to look at the still-expanding sphere before continuing.

"Though it has the ability to obtain those properties. It can boil and be hotter than the fire; it can freeze and turn into a solid state that can rival the ground; and with enough pressure, it can burst and be faster than the wind," he said.

Then he directed his gaze towards the colony of rats.

"But there’s still one thing that I like the most about this element," Zeno added.

However, the rat monster’s focus was entirely on the sphere of water and not on Zeno’s murmurs.

’I need to escape,’ Ratniss thought, gulping afterward.

Then the rats that were still alive turned around with their tails tucked between their legs. They wanted to run, but as they exerted force to speed up their movement, they experienced the lagging that had happened earlier.

’Why? The rain had already stopped!’ Ratniss conveyed this inside his mind, and then tiny little bubbles with water inside appeared on the surface of the green liquid covering the rats.

"Damn it! It’s the water!" He cursed upon realizing how the domain really worked.

"Don’t mess with me!" Ratniss voice rang once more, and the green liquid was absorbed by the rats’ bodies, making their fur grow longer and each of them sharp as a needle. They were dried during the process, giving back their ability to move as fast as the wind.

Without further ado, with their claws covered with green liquid, they dashed at the demon with the intention to kill him to stop the strange thing above them that kept on expanding as more bubbles merged into it.

However, Zeno paid no heed to the monsters running towards him and even touched his chin as if thinking something. The next second, he spoke, and his words made the hundreds of rats freeze in fear.

"Sixth of the Twelve Fallen Commanders! On this very day, I hereby pronounce your death," he declared.

"H-how did you know what number I am?" Ratniss uttered in disbelief, but the demon ignored his question.

Then the bubble popped, and a loud bang made the area shake for several seconds while a vast amount of water slammed down and washed everything away on its path. Several whirlpools appeared on the surface while it continued pouring. The tree monsters were uprooted and sank underneath the raging water, while the hundreds of rats lost their breath bit by bit as they were caught in the sudden burst of liquid. They tried to swim and reach for the surface, but chains sturdier than before pinned them to the ground, which caused their demise.

. . . . .

Two giant palms lifted the group of mercenaries above to evade the tidal wave. They watched how the water drowned every single being beneath them. Jez gulped as he witnessed the phenomenon.

"I never imagined that water could be this terrifying," Royle commented.

The rest of the mercenaries nodded while the psychopomp kept her silence.

’No, it’s not the water that’s terrifying; that man is. To kill Ratniss simply by drowning the entirety of his bodies is definitely an outstanding feat,’ Heaire thought, and she glanced at the silver-haired man standing still in his position.

The water’s path split into two as if it were deviating away from Zeno. The constant flow of water continued for a few more minutes; the whirlpool dug the soil deeper, and it made the swamp turn into a vast lake without anything aside from its water.

’Who really are you?’ Heaire added to the list of questions inside her mind regarding the demon’s existence.

Meanwhile, Zeno glanced behind him and stared at the psychopomp, who was still looking at him. He didn’t smile or say a word and just looked at the woman. No one from them averted their gaze from each other until a black-scaled monster emerged in front of the demon which blocked their eye contact.

"So you’re still alive, huh? Tencent?" Zeno asked.
