The Demon King's First General
Chapter 102: Another Wave

Chapter 102: Another Wave

"I like that look on your face and about those deities you’ve pledged your loyalty to...." Zeno paused, shook his head, and looked straight into the psychopomp’s eyes.

"Anyway, let me ask you one last time: are you still not willing to grant this little request of ours?" He added.

He imparted those words with the most pleasing voice he could muster, yet the woman still whispered a no. She didn’t even think about it; without wasting a second, she rejected the demon’s request.

Upon hearing her, Zeno sighed and took a moment to glance at the three people who arrived at the place.

"At long last, you guys are here," he uttered, which caused confusion in the woman.

She looked in the direction where the demon glanced in that instant and felt more confused upon seeing the three people, looking at them from afar.

"Humans? Are they in the same group?’ She thought.

Afterward, the three mercenaries walked in the demon’s direction. No one from any of them was speaking a word; they remained silent until reaching the position of the silver-haired demon.

Then the duke stared at the woman without arms and spoke.

"Who is this?" He asked. His way of speaking was a little rushed, yet he still had respect for the demon.

"Half of the ticket for your friend’s resurrection," Zeno replied, standing up with his usual carefree posture.

Then he turned around and put both of his hands inside his pocket before walking towards where Tencent was.

The group of humans watched as the demon moved away from them, then they directed their eyes at the psychopomp. They felt sorry for the state she was in, but their desire to bring Alles back was a far superior emotion compared to the former.

"What do we need to do with her?" Royle asked as he looked back at the giant snake.

"Nothing in particular; we just need her to summon the soul of your friend back into her body," Tencent answered.

Afterward, he watched as Zeno walked closer to him, and for the first time, he felt fear just by looking into someone’s eyes.

However, Zeno ignored the monster’s stares and continued his steps to cross the swamp.

"Where are you going?" Tencent asked.

"To hunt down the other one," Zeno replied without halting his steps.

Then Tencent glanced at the humans for a few seconds before averting his eyes from them. In that short amount of time, he saw the woman glaring at him, though he paid no attention to it, and began to turn around and walk behind the demon.

"The Eighth Sovereign," he whispered, hissing.

This action of his made the demon halt his steps; however, even though he was scared shitless for his life, he still continued.

"I remember it just now! The one entity who chose not to participate in the war... It is you!" Tencent exclaimed.

. . . . .

Upon hearing the snake, Royle and Jez nodded at each other, and Royle kneeled in front of the woman.

"Can you help us?" He asked. There was a hint of sadness in his voice.

"For calling back a soul? Yes, I can, but I will not!" The woman answered.

"Just kill me already!" She yelled, letting her body fall into the swamp.

However, a huge hand made of energy caught her, preventing her from sinking into the water.

"Killing yourself wouldn’t benefit us in the slightest, so forgive me for saving you," Jez said.

Then he looked at the woman’s arms and spoke again.

"We can help you regrow them if you want; just help us with this one, please!" Jez added, and he began to plead with the woman.

"Even if your intentions are pure, I can’t ignore the fact that you asked for help from a soul devourer," she replied.

"Devourer, what?" Jez said, almost yelling.

"You guys are a group of fools! Perfect for that snake bastard to be the leader," the woman added.

"You’re the only one who can save our friend, please! Help us just this once!" Royle pleaded once more, ignoring her remark.

However, the woman rolled her eyes upon hearing the group’s out-of-the-line reasoning.

"You have a soul devourer with you, yet you still failed to preserve your friend’s soul," she said, and her words brought more confusion to the mercenaries.

’Soul devourer again?’ Jez thought while knitting his brows.

"If you’re referring to the demon who put you in that state, you’re wrong," he said.

"We don’t know any other knowledge about him, much less the things he could do," Royle added.

"So please help us bring our friend back to life!" Jez said once more.

Royle and Jez couldn’t believe that there would be a time when both of them would seek help from an unknown monster. Both of them would do anything they could to bring back Alles, especially Royle.

’If it’s the only way to save Alles, I’m willing to throw everything away or even cast away my humanity!’ Royle ascertained inside his thoughts as they waited for the psychopomp to answer.

. . . . .

"Hmnn, is this really the time to open up something like this?" Zeno asked, then turned around to face the monster.

Tencent lowered both of his heads upon hearing the demon.

"It’s better to clarify things right now before we delve deeper inside," he replied while staring at the man’s lifeless eyes.

"I’m not certain at first, but after hearing what kind of demon you are, it becomes the only explanation I could think of for your incredible fighting prowess," he added.

The next second, he crawled a little closer to the demon and hissed.

"You must not be here," he uttered.

Then Zeno’s laughter echoed in the place, which made Tencent confused.

’What is he laughing at?’ He thought.

As soon as the demon stopped laughing, he looked at the giant snake and smiled.

"And where do you think I should be?" He asked.

Tencent replied by pointing his head below. "Right there! Along with the other seven."

"Hmnn, but that place is pretty much boring," Zeno replied, turning around to resume his steps.

The snake was about to reply again when a huge shockwave came from Zeno’s foot as soon as he made a step forward. It caused the water to rise to a certain level before creating a huge wave that fell and splashed on the tree monsters. That single step that Zeno took created rain inside the swamp.

Tencent gulped after watching the scene transpire before his eyes.

"Speak about it any further, and I’ll make sure that the next explosion of energy will happen right inside your body," Zeno threatened the monster.

. . . . .

Meanwhile, near the entrance of the dungeon, where the other group was patiently waiting for the return of their leader, was now staking their lives on the line.

All of them were fighting a wave of monsters that came from behind them.

"This won’t do, everyone! Don’t ever attempt to cross this barrier!" Goomer yelled, giving instructions for the group and acting as the leader in the meantime.

’Damn it! They keep pouring in! If this continues any longer, even Rye will not be able to hold on!’ He thought while throwing daggers towards the monsters.

Then he looked at his back and saw the priestess kneeling and drenching in sweat, while pain could be seen from her face every time the monsters smashed her shield.

"Everyone! Prevent them from smashing the barrier!" Goomer yelled, and the rest of the mercenaries nodded.

It all happened a few moments ago when they heard several footsteps galloping outside the tunnel. Without giving them any time to prepare, humanoid monsters with the characteristics of bulls came dashing at them with maces on their hands. Their numbers could rival the first wave of monsters that they encountered before entering the tunnel.

"Jez, Royle! Where are you?" Goomer muttered.

Then he threw another set of daggers towards the monsters; some managed to block and deflect them, while others fell dead on the spot as the daggers pierced their skulls.

"We can do this!" Goomer yelled once more, enhancing the morale of the group.

He continued to repeat his previous attacks while the other mercenaries used every attack they could from their arsenal to kill the monsters surrounding them, and after a few moments, they were ready to rejoice and claim their victory but the ground shook all of a sudden.

’I’m getting goosebumps just from thinking that this is somewhat similar to that,’ Goomer thought, then he glanced at Allesanah’s dead body.

Aside from him, they all thought that another wave of monsters was about to appear, but they were all wrong. The trembling of the ground came from one single monster.

"I hate this hunch of mine!" Goomer exclaimed while massaging the temple of his head.

’If I’m not mistaken, that monster has the same strength as the one who killed Alles. How can we survive against that thing?’ He thought as he stared at the monster that looked like a minotaur.

"Which bastard killed Anreajhs?" The monster asked while eyeing every human present in the place.

Then, without receiving a reply from the mercenaries, the monster leaped up towards them and slammed the giant hammer he was holding.

Cracks began to form in the layers of the barrier while Rye started to shout in pain.

"Rye!" Goomer yelled and dashed towards the front of the monster.

He aimed his dagger at its head, but as the minotaur-like creature glared at him, he lost all of his strength to stand, and he fell on his knees.

’W-What happened?’ He thought.

Then, with another strike from the minotaur, the barrier shattered to pieces, along with the priestess losing her consciousness.
