Chapter 91: Look Down on Her
Anastasia led the group of noble ladies to the garden after a quarter of an hour walk. Because she had arranged for umbrella in advance the sun was not harsh on them besides this small walk provided an opportunity for the ladies to chat amongst themselves.
Bridget and Beatrice took the opportunity that Anastasia was close to their sister to walk beside her not giving other noble ladies the opportunity to get more familiar with her.
Of course most of the ladies here wanted to get close to Anastasia, so they turned and had small conversations with Elizabeth. After all, Elizabeth had arrived last and skip etiquette. Calling Anastasia sister , with Anastasia ignoring what should have been a case of disrespect.
Elizabeth was thrilled by this attention. After all, her Duke family did not have much influence within the royal capital and this ladies were from a higher noble class.
Although they might chat with her at grand bounquat out of courtesy they never took the initiative to be so kind to her.
A position of the garden was arranged beautifully for the afternoon tea; shaded by white canopy decorated with lace and fine embroidery. Climbing ivy and blooming rose bushes fill the air with a sweet, pleasant scent.
This was not a large gathering so two tables were arranged with Elegant iron chairs soft with velvet cushions arranged around round tables covered with fine linen. The two tables were not far apart with seats for five ladies allowing for friendly and lively conversation.
A long, ornate table near the main seating area holds the selection of teas, pastries, and confections, arranged on silver trays and porcelain tiered stands.
There were palace maids waiting at the side to serve when the time comes.
Anal had arranged the seating arrangement before hand. She was only close to Rosalind, so she allowed her to share at able with her.
As for the other ladies Anastasia did not know them much so she allowed Miss Magdalene to the arrangements as she seems feat.
Miss Magdalene had been in the palace for a while so she decided to follow the traditional sitting and allowed the seat to be arranged based on family background.
Because they had met at the entrance of the chapel to pray the introduction part after meeting was skipped. Now that Anastasia took her seat first, Miss Magdalene would introduce each lady and a maid would direct her to her seat.
"Your higness, she is lady Amabel Thorne, daughter of the Marquess of Valewood," Miss Magdalene introduced.
Lady Amabel stepped forward with effortless poise, "A honor to make your acquaintance, your highness" she cursty, her voice smooth and measured, the hint of a knowing smile playing at her lips.
A maid lead her to seat on the same table as Anastasia. Follow her, Miss Magdalene introduced Rosalind and her sistere. Since Anastasia wanted to share a table with Rosalind, miss Magdalene felt it was best to have all the William family daughters on the same table.
As for the second table, Elizabeth and her cousin were arranged to seat next to each other. Actually, Elizabeth father was a Duke and she had the qualifications to share a table with Anastasia. It’s just that the Thompson household could be said to be an empty shall since an incident that happened nineteen years ago. Duke Thompson only still held this because of a contribution he had made that year.
Moreover, Miss Magdalene understand that Anastasia might not want to share a table with her.
The others on the table were Sabina, Cecilia and Jilian. Their father’s were members of the Privy council. Dorothy had showered interested in joining the prayer and had somehow followed them to the garden.
Miss magdalene would have looked for an opportunity to send her away but Anastasia signal to let her stay. So an extra chair was added to the second table.
Her presence made Elizabeth feel very angry. Although she was introduced as a valued royal physician by the princess side, since she had no noble family background Elizabeth looked down on her. She even believes that Anastasia deliberately arranged for Dorothy to share a table with her to humiliate her.
The other ladies did not think of this, they suspect that she was really value by Anastasia. After all, who in their circle did not know that before Anastasia’s marriage to the crown prince she was just an unfavored daughter. So they felt in their heart that the two might be good friends. An since Anastasia had rising to a noble position she was trying to make a way for her friend in the Nobel circle.
When Dorothy saw that the other ladies were polite to her, she was very pleased with herself. She chatted with them and tried her best to make friends. She thought that those ladies liked her personality.
Elizabeth seeing this scene frown, she felt that all this noble ladies were a bit stupid. Anastasia arrange for them to share a table with a person of unknown origin. Instead of them to look for a way to question Anastasia they were all acting polite.
"Smile, do not cause trouble," Isabel sitting next to her advice. Her grandmother had asked her to keep an eye on Elizabeth. She was worried that she would enter the palace and cause trouble.
Elizabeth looked at her cousin and forced a smile . She had no plans to embarrass herself in the presence of a few noble ladies. Anastasia smile and tried to chat with Amaber.
Amaber had a polite smile and replied to Anastasia with proper etiquette. Anastasia did not know why although this lady sounded polite she could tell from her small gesture that she looked down on her.
Amber’s family were close to the Royal family. They were loyal to court and in face her mother was a member of Queen Mary’s court. When she was younger she usually followed her mother into the palace to visit the queen. Her mother had carefully raised her to marry into the royal family.
Even the queen was very satisfied with her, although they had not yet made any official promises there were indirect agreements. So in her heart she had always thought that she would be the one to marry the crown prince.
Unexpectedly Anastasia the unfavored daughter of a small Duke family for no reason married him. Her mother had inquired of the queen and found out that it was the king’s idea and the advice of some Seer.
Amaber could not really tell what was so good about Anastasia. During the royal celebration she was sick and could not make it to the palace. So the first time she saw her was at the wedding but Anastasia looked timid in her opinion.
Now sitting close to her, although she acted appropriately, she failed to hide the thought in her mind.
Anastasia sighed she was not surprised that she was looked down upon but as long as the other person did not act out of line she could pretend not to notice.
In the last seven days she had been reading and had a better understanding of all the Nobel family within the royal city.
So unless any of this ladies present acted out of line, she was willing to accommodate them.
