Chapter 50: Bad mood

Anastasia had spent the night at the palace so she was unaware of what was going on in the Duke household. It’s was only the next morning when the physician came to check on her that she heard that her suddenly sickness’ was due to poison.

Anastasia was so shocked, just like in her dream after she had gotten married to the prince it was found out that she could not give birth. Anastasia frown, she had avoided eating the food from the main kitchen since the day the people from the palace arrived to propose her marriage.

"Could it be that, she has been feeding me the poison for a long time?" Anastasia Wonder.

"Don’t worry, you are lucky enough to start your meditation yesterday. This has reduced the effects of the poison. This is also the reason I was able to notice that you might have been poisoned," the physician explained seeing the worry written all over her face.

"Thank you," Anastasia was grateful that he noticed.

"Judging from my situation, can you tell how long I have been feef this poison?" Anastasia asked.

"It’s should be recently, if I am not mistaken you were feed another dose yesterday," the Physician replied

Anastasia frowned. Rosa had been the one in charge of making her meals in the pass few days. How could she still be poisoned. "Could Rosa had betrayed me?" Anastasia could not help but wonder.

The Physician finished his examination and left. Rosa walked in shortly after he left. "My lady, here is you medicine, you should drink it while it’s hot," Rosa said as she handed her the medicine bowl

Anastasia looked at the bowl and Rosa. She did not look any different.

"My lady?" Rosa called out seeing that Anastasia did not take the bowl but continue to look at her strangely.

"I will ask you a question, and I hope you will be honest with me," Anastasia said.

"I am always honest to my lady," Rosa replied. She was not sure what Anastasia wanted to asked but she had always been loyal to Anastasia.

"After my mother’s death, things had become more difficult for me but you insisted on staying by my side no matter how hard it was. Now, the heaven has favoured me. The purification rite is done and in a month I will be the crown princess...," Anastasia paused and looked at Rosa.

Rosa was also looking at her wondering why Anastasia was saying souch before asking her question. "You have been loyal to me and I would not treat you badly. Tell me, what did the duchess used to make you poison me?" Anastasia asked

As soon as Rosa heard this question her heart dropped. She had been so careful with her lady’s meal. She also did not understand how she got poisoned.

"My lady, I did not poison you. I can swear with the name of our Lord, God I could never do such," Rosa fell on her knees and answer.

Anastasia looked at Rosa, her gaze looked sincere she could not find the trace of guilt.

"I know you are loyal to me, surely it’s either the Duchess threaten you or you were tricked. Did you get any ingredients you did not understand it origin?" Anastasia asked.

"My Lady, I remember you warning and was very careful with everything I used. I also have no evidence. The only thing I can think about was seeing Nile around the kitchen on two occasions. At that time I had thought that perhaps she was trying to steal some so I did not take it to Heart since nothing was missing but now that I thought about it, there is a possibility that she was there for other things," Rosa answered.

Anastasia closed her eyes, her answer sounded convincing. "Then tell me when did you see her around the kitchen?" She asked.

"The first time was the day after the kitchen was opened and the second time was a day ago," Rosa said.

"Then, what about yesterday? Anastasia asked.

"No, she was still quiet busy when I made breakfast yesterday. She definitely did not have the time," Rosa shook her head.

"But the physician said I took the poison yesterday," Anastasia said. Her tone made it sound like a statement.

"My lady, I really do not know about this poison," Rosa said and fell into deep thoughts. "Could it be that the poison was added to the ingredients? I remember now, I was only very careful when I get the ingredients from the main kitchen. I never do a cross checkung one I take them back and use," Rosa said after a moment of thinking.

"That is possible?" Anastasia felt her heart relaxed a bit. She trust Rosa so much and hope that she did not betray her.

"Lady Anastasia, the queen had sent a message that you join her for breakfast," Miss Magdalene announced outside the chamber door.

"I will get ready now," Anastasia response.

"My lady, take you medicine, it’s getting cold," Rosa said seeing that Anastasia was getting ready to change her clothes.

Anastasia thought for a while but she still chooses to trust Rosa. She took the bowl and drank the medicine.

"When we return later, remember to be more careful with meal," Anastasia said. Rosa agreed and got up to her feet. She was happy that her lady trusted and believes her words.

Rosa helped Anastasia dress up. Once she was ready they walked out where Miss Magdalene was waiting.

"This way," miss Magdalene pointed out they direction.

Anastasia followed her lead and soon they arrive at the dinner hall were the Queen was already waiting.

"Your grace," the three of them bow.

The Queen nods her head in satisfaction. Anastasia was beautiful and she carried herself with the right amount of grace. The Queen felt that she was not too disappointing.

"Sit, let eat," the Queen gesture.

Anastasia was helped to the seat opposite the queen. The king was not present for breakfast so the head of the table care was empty.

"I have sent a message back to you family. We should find out soon who tried to harm you," the Queen said seeing that Anastasia was in a bad mood.
