Chapter 200: Protect herself

The king and his mother were shocked they did not expect to hear such words from Anastasia .

"What do you mean?" King Edward frown deepen.

"Your majesty, we got married because of this late king’s request. Your majesty does not like me, I do not dare to ask for your majesty favor, but I can not allow a mistress to step alover me. Since his majesty wants to protect his love, I will give way. My Duke residence is not very influencial anyway, my mother is already dead, so his majesty can deovice me without worrying," Anastasia said. Her voice was calm.

Mary looked at her surprised after all, she had thought that Anastasia was too kind for her own good.

"Is that what want?" King Edward asked.

"When has his majesty care about what I want. There is evidence of something been wrong with the prescription but his majesty still wish to cover up for his mistress.

As a physician how can she not know that those two herbs had conflicting properties. Even if she did not deliberately harm me, she must have not taken care of the prescription properly. How else did someone manage to change it? I am the victim here, yet, in the eyes of his majesty he can not see her cry. You majesty even suspect me for framing her. We have not shared a bed anyway, so it’s either we divorce or physician Dorothy is punished for her actions," Anastasia said.

Mary was surprised to hear that her son had never shared a bed with Anastasia. What surprised her more was that Anastasia said it without shame. She felt that perhpars this daughter in-law of hers was not a push over like she had imagined.

King Edward also felt uncomfortable when she mentioned it. Although he did not love her, he should fulfill his duty as her husband.

Moreover he did not expect her to say it out that they have never shared a bed. Usually a wife was blamed for not being able to please her husband but in Anastasia’s mouth it sounded like he was the obsessed with his mistress and failing in his duty as her husband.

King Edward looked at Anastasia and saw her calm gaze knew she was not worried he would agree to this divorce. He hated that she dared to threaten him but he did not really dare divorce her now.

He turned to look at his mother hoping that she would say something but Mary pursed her lips. After listening to what Anastasia said, she also suspect her son was making excuses to save his mistress.

If she knew she was not competent to be a physician why did she dare take the offer.

Moreso, Physician Nathan had just said he explained each herbs and the effects. Now she began to suspect Dorothy to be a spy sent to her son again.

"What punishment, do you think she should serve?" King Edward asked.

"Death," Anastasia answered without hesitation.

King Edward and Mary were shocked by this answer after all, Anastasia was usually gentle.

"She is carrying a royal blood, she can not be killed," king Edward said.

"She can die after giving birth, I just need the king to give his words," Anastasia answered. Of course she knew the king would not agree to kill Dorothy.

King Edward looked not knowing what to say, indeed her crime of hurtung Anastasia is punishable by death but he could not want to kill her. He kept feeling like something about the case was not right.

"Son, the Queen is right, if you let her go after committing such a crime then others would become bold," Mary said.

"Mother, Dorothy saved my life, she would be punished but I want to take a chance to investigate. This matter is not clear, if she is guilty I will not let her go," King Edward said after some thought.

"Your majesty, I can agree that she did not deliberate harm me, but she is still guilty of carelessness and should be punished," Anastasia insist. If she did not have a nightmare she would have believed the king’s empty words.

King Edward looked not knowing what to say.

"Send her out of the palace, when she gives birth to the child, hand the child over to the queen to care for," Mary said. After carefully thinking about the situation she was a bit worried about Anastasia not being able to give birth in the future. So she hoped to use the opportunity to solve future problems.

"No, "

"No"

King Edward and Anastasia spoke at the same time.

Mary looked at the husband and wife at the same time. She did not expect them to refuse.

"What? Do you want to keep protecting her? While I can not say who becomes your mistress, she can’t be officially recognized. She is too scheming," Mary started with her son.

King Edward kept quiet without arguing. Even if Dorothy was set up there was no way to defend her at the moment. Now that they were not after her life he could only take a step back.

Seeing that her son has taken a step back she turned to look at Anastasia.

"Your grace, forgive me but I will not be able to love this child," Anastasia said. Her gaze was calm.

When she first heard the queen talking about giving her the child to raise she remembered her nightmare.

She had also raised the child of a mistress for the king. After the child grew up, father and son turned against her

Brought the mistress home and made her the queen while she died along in a forgotten courtyard. It’s would be a waste of heaven’s kindness if she still raised that child.

Mother and son in her opinion did not seem to be good people.

Mary looked at Anastasia not knowing what to say, how many women can love the child of another woman. Especially in a case like that of Anastasia.

If she was not able to have children in the future she would definitely have resentment.

Even though she thought like this, Mary was still convinced that this was the best way to solve the current problem. "Anastasia, I understand your pain but the child is innocent. He is also your husband’s son. Don’t worry, if you are able to hear children in the future, even if he is a male he would not inherit the throne. Or would you rather allow her to become the king"s mistress..." Although she did not finish her statement Anastasia knew that the queen was also considering her feelings.

"Your grace, I am just a wife and his majesty can make whoever he wants to be his mistress. I am only asking for Justice for the harm that have come to me. His Majesty would not deny me Justice right," Anastasia said.

King Edward looked at her, he could not help but feel a bit helpless. First she talked about divorce, now she is only asking for Justice and did not care about his relationship with his mistress.

She was asking him to give her justice as a king not her husband.

Mary pursed her lips, she was not angry with Anastasia’s actions. After all, she understood that everyone was thinking of what benefits them the most.

"I will have Dorothy leave the palace as soon as she gives birth to the child. You do not have to raise him. I will get a nanny to do that," King Edward said after some thought.

Anastasia looked at him not hiding the dissatisfaction in her gaze. "She would not be recognized my official mistress. She will be confined to her quarters before she gives birth," he added.

"Alright, I thank your grace for standing up for me. I am in poor health and have to go to bed on time," Anastasia said. From the beginning she just wanted to send Dorothy away. Now that her goal was achieved she decided to leave. There were still seven months before the child is born. As long as Dorothy was not officially recognized as the king’s mistress, no one would look down on her for not being able to keep her husband.

As for the future, there was not much she could do. All she can do was to try and gather support for the future. This way, whether she remains the queen or not, the king and his mistress would not be able to dispose of her like in her dream.

King Edward frown watching her leave, he had even broken his promise to Dorothy for her, yet she only thanks his mother.

He really could not understand this wife. He used to think that she lived him a lot, this was why she had risk her life to bring the seal to him in the north but seeing her not care about him taking a mistress so soon surprised him.

He turned to look at his mother.

"What? Since you don’t love her, she can only fight to protect herself," Mary said before getting up. "Try to spend more time with your wife. You can not be distracted with such things at this time," she advised. Since Anastasia was not trying to hurt her son, Mary did not care about her actions.
