The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s -
Chapter 95 - 81
Chapter 95: 81
Mo Junhua wanted Lan Tian to stay and take care of him. A man and a woman alone together, it’s easy for feelings to grow—and yet, his expression remained characteristically icy.
Now, Mo Junhua is no longer the slightly naive man he was a few years ago. Nowadays, he acts ruthlessly, with meticulous thoughts, a man with cunning fox-like iron-blooded methods.
He wouldn’t spill his little schemes in front of parents, of course. Sometimes, refusing and procrastinating can achieve unexpectedly effective results.
"Grandma Sun, Uncle, you go back with Lan Tian. I’m fine, it’s just a minor injury. I can take care of myself. I’ve had worse injuries in the military and still got through just fine. Besides, Uncle is needed at home for so many things, and Fifth Aunt needs his care. If I need anything, I’ll call a nurse, don’t worry! The hospital’s a mess, and it’s not good for a girl like Lan Tian to stay here."
Grandma Sun felt even more embarrassed by his words. Mo Yuanle glanced at Mo Junhua, a flicker of admiration in his eyes, thinking he didn’t misjudge him. A soldier should indeed have an ironclad spirit and noble integrity to be worthy of the uniform he wears.
That is to say, sometimes overthinking is a major issue. The image established from a young age is important too, at least for someone with ulterior motives, acting as a good cover when playing his schemes.
"Mo Junhua makes sense. The family can’t do without people, and I’ll only add to the chaos if I go back," said Lan Tian, looking at him strangely. She had already decided to stay and take care of him, planning to set his bone and treat him at night, which could take ages if left to the hospital.
Lan Tian always had the feeling that if this matter wasn’t dealt with quickly, it would lead to major chaos later.
"I’ll stay here and take care of him. You guys seem to forget that I learned medicine from Uncle; it’s more convenient for me to handle this."
Lan Tian lightly tapped Mo Junhua’s plastered leg with her finger. Seeing her action, Grandma Sun and Mo Yuanle suddenly realized their worry had made them forget about the girl’s medical skills. With her help, Mo Junhua’s broken leg would surely be no problem, and so they were less opposed to Lan Tian staying.
They still trusted Mo Junhua’s character, after all.
Seeing that they understood her intention, Lan Tian added, "His family probably doesn’t know about his situation yet. Uncle, when you go back, please inform them. I’ll stay here for the next few days. I’ve also brought the household money with me. Go back; Fifth Aunt is waiting at home for news."
Lan Tian took off the peach bead bracelet in her hand and put it on Grandma Sun’s wrist, reemphasizing that no matter what happened, she must not take it off.
After sending the two away, Lan Tian returned to the ward. There were four beds in the ward, and aside from Mo Junhua occupying one, the other three were empty. With Grandma Sun and the others gone, only Lan Tian and Mo Junhua were left in the quiet ward.
Mo Junhua leaned back on the bed reading a book, the pages still for a long time. He had borrowed this military guidebook from the library to pass the time, and now his peripheral vision caught the idle girl sitting motionless on the neighboring bed. With a snap, he closed the book and said to Lan Tian, "I’m thirsty!"
Lan Tian got up to pour water, glanced at Mo Junhua’s plastered leg, and thought for a moment. She sliced some ginseng and soaked it in water, then brought it to him. She sat down next to his leg, aiming to chat carelessly, and asked knowingly, "Why did you suddenly come back at this time?"
Mo Junhua looked at Lan Tian meaningfully, and unexpectedly started to unbutton his shirt slowly, as if the action was in slow motion. Any other girl might have blushed and run away at the sight.
Lan Tian didn’t seem to know what shyness was, watching with a cold expression as if she wasn’t observing a man undressing.
Mo Junhua stopped after unbuttoning two buttons, leaning back and said nonchalantly to Lan Tian, "I came back for matchmaking."
He glanced down at the cup in his hand. The boiled water held a piece of pale yellow substance, emitting a strong medicinal scent, the same as the water Grandma Sun had drunk before. He lifted the cup and took a sip.
"Is that so? Then congratulations," Lan Tian said. If Mo Yuanle married another woman, Lan Tian would naturally be free.
Men with families are very different from unmarried men. Her family would definitely make her stop associating with Mo Junhua. If word gets out, wouldn’t people say she’s trying to seduce a married man? With this thought, her mood involuntarily brightened.
"We could be considered childhood friends, and considering our friendship over the years, let me congratulate you in advance on a harmonious marriage and that you may have children soon. When you get married, I’ll definitely give you a big red envelope, no need to thank me too much."
Mo Junhua stared straight into Lan Tian’s eyes, and Lan Tian stared back just as directly. The atmosphere between the two was somewhat eerie. Suddenly, Mo Junhua pursed his lips and smiled, "Thank you!"
He handed the finished glass of water to Lan Tian and picked up the military strategy book from beside his pillow to read.
Lan Tian was creeped out by his smile, stood up to put the glass on the cupboard, and turned back to look at Mo Junhua. He wouldn’t be plotting something behind her back, would he?
When this guy wasn’t smiling, he was becoming more and more like the ’Cold-faced Yama’ Mo Junhua of the past life with his stern face.
His smile was even more chilling.
Mo Junhua didn’t drink much water, aside from the cup Lan Tian had previously poured for him. Drinking little water meant there was no need for the toilet, which saved them from some awkwardness.
Taking care of a patient was simple. Call the nurse over when it was time to change the bandages, have meals delivered at mealtime – there wasn’t really much else to look after. After Lan Tian congratulated Mo Junhua, the two of them didn’t talk anymore. Mo Junhua read his book, while Lan Tian lay on the adjacent bed to sleep.
In the evening after eating the meals she brought back, Lan Tian went to fetch water for him to wash up. Of course, she wouldn’t wash him. Pulling a cupboard over to Mo Junhua’s bedside, she handed him a towel to wipe himself down while she sat by and waited.
Mo Junhua held the towel, waited a moment, and seeing that Lan Tian didn’t leave, he curved the corners of his lips slightly, not feeling embarrassed at all. He started to wipe himself after unbuttoning his uniform. After wiping his body and not bothering to button his shirt, he just began to undo the buckle of his belt. The ’click-clack’ sounds were particularly grating in the quiet of the sickroom.
Lan Tian, who had been waiting, could no longer keep her composure. She jumped off the bed, rushed over, and threw the blanket over his waist, glaring at him fiercely. Huffing with anger, she left with tears streaming down inwardly—this man was even more shameless than she was!
By the time Lan Tian returned from a walk around, Mo Junhua had washed both his upper and lower body, only the back part was left, waiting for Lan Tian to come back to help him wipe. The water was already cold, Lan Tian was about to fetch a new basin of water when Mo Junhua took off his uniform and turned his back to her, "No need, just wipe it like this! In the army, we always take cold showers."
Mo Junhua didn’t mind the cold water, so Lan Tian certainly didn’t mind either. She grabbed the towel and scrubbed hard, wishing she could scrub off a layer of his skin.
Pity that Mo Junhua had thick skin and meat, despite Lan Tian’s hands going numb from scrubbing, not even reddening his skin. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but Lan Tian always felt Mo Junhua was smiling. She suddenly turned her head to catch him in the act, but saw he was expressionless, appearing indifferent. Unsatisfied, Lan Tian viciously grabbed at his back, leaving several red marks that finally made her feel a bit vindicated.
In the scorching summer, the weather was hot and dry, with the wind blowing in through the windows also feeling warm.
Lan Tian lay on the bed waiting for dawn, listening to the footsteps along the corridor outside and the nurses’ playful laughter.
It was once again the fifteenth, the bright moon hanging on the tree branches like a huge jade disk, as if she could glimpse the osmanthus trees on it, the night sky sprinkled with twinkling stars.
The lights in the building opposite went off one by one, and the outside corridor sank into silence at some unknown time. Suddenly the lights in the room went out, and Lan Tian gently turned over.
The moonlight was like frost, passing through the window and falling on the opposite wall, and also revealing the scene of the bed across.
Mo Junhua, having wiped himself down, slept shirtless. Perhaps tired from traveling during the day, or maybe it was an aftereffect of the car crash, he exhibited a trace of peaceful serenity in his sleep. Mo Junhua, asleep, looked gentle and soft, much more approachable than his stern and aggressive appearance during the day.
