The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s -
Chapter 60
Chapter 60: 60
"Little Tao, I think you should really think this through and not rush into a decision. Look how wonderful this place is—mountains clear and waters showy, birds chirping and flowers fragrant, with rich spiritual energy. The Immortal Realm is nothing compared to this. Outside, the spiritual energy is thin and there are many bad people. If they see such a huge peach tree as you, they’ll definitely think about chopping you down. It’s too dangerous, really, you should think about it." Where else would you find such a nice place to make breakthroughs in the future?
The peach tree looked at Lan Tian as if looking at an idiot, and Lan Tian really felt it.
"How do you even cultivate? You don’t even know the basics of the Cultivation World." The peach tree was really worried for Lan Tian; such a foolish cultivator might get killed in some deserted corner without it watching over her, so it had to follow her to provide protection properly.
"Do you understand what a contract is?"
Lan Tian rolled her eyes. Don’t treat her like a rookie; she had cultivated through two lifetimes, after all.
"Of course I know about contracts. Many cultivators in the Cultivation World contract with spiritual beasts like Phoenixes, Dragons, Vermilion Birds, Qilins... But aren’t you a plant? I’ve never heard of anyone contracting with a plant?" Besides, plants can’t compete in spellcasting and still require a place rich in spiritual energy to nourish, it’s too tedious.
"You see, you won’t admit your lack of knowledge. Spiritual plants can be contracted just like spiritual beasts. Phoenixes and Dragons? You’ve actually thought of them; even the Immortal World rarely has a few, and only the four great Immortal Emperors possess some branches of Phoenix lineage, and other Immortals usually have their contracted spiritual beasts who can cultivate into Immortal Beasts upon ascending to the Immortal Realm."
"Ah, it’s just like the Loose Cultivators; without guidance, they lead a miserable life and don’t even know the basics. Lucky for you to meet me—I swear, if someone else heard you and knew you were a cultivator rookie, killing for loot would be minor; the real fear is encountering Evil Cultivators who may soul extract and refine, making it impossible for you to be reborn or even to die properly—a fate far worse. I must educate you properly on the common knowledge of the Cultivation World."
Lan Tian swore she could hear the peach tree’s tone rising haughtily as if it was saying ’come and worship me’. If it had eyes, it would definitely be looking down at her disdainfully.
"I have a master." Daring to look down on her, Lan Tian decided to drag out her master, from some unknown corners, to flaunt his clout.
"Is it so rare to have Phoenix Dragons? My master once casually went out and contracted with two Golden Dragons and two Phoenixes. Those two Golden Dragons were very disobedient, always wreaking havoc in his cave dwelling. Master didn’t want those two Dragons anymore and was looking to switch them for some more obedient ones."
That’s what was written in the Jade Scroll; her master meant that the two Golden Dragons were getting too old and annoying, telling Lan Tian to speed up her cultivation as those two Dragons would be a greeting gift when she meets him, though that meeting seemed to be far off, but that didn’t stop Lan Tian from bringing it up.
Hearing this, the peach tree was shocked; it thought she was just a simple idiot, but it turned out she was a major golden backup, strengthening its resolve to follow Lan Tian—at the chance of encountering even bigger and more substantial golden legs.
"Then where is your master? He didn’t even teach you the basics," the peach tree snorted, clearly not believing Lan Tian, yet it couldn’t help feeling very pleased inside.
"He should be in the Divine Realm!" The Immortal World doesn’t even have a single Phoenix; Lan Tian estimated he should be in the Divine Realm, obviously a bit uncertain. In some palace just outside the Ninth Layer Heaven, someone suddenly sneezed.
How odd, he had been sneezing these past few days; it couldn’t be that someone was scheming behind his back, right? Damn outsiders, having not ventured out for a long time, those people had seemingly forgotten his capabilities. It seemed necessary for him to go out and remind them, lest some think he’d changed his nature.
Lan Tian didn’t realize that because of her musings, the Divine Realm would again be disturbed for a long time.
"Stop talking, let’s make a contract!" The peach tree thought it should seize the opportunity while the Master was away and cling to Lan Tian a bit more. Once you have the younger one in hand, how far can the elder one be? Luckily, it had triggered its legacy and hoodwinked the girl.
Lan Tian hesitated as she looked at the peach tree, not really wanting to make a contract. What to do?
The peach tree unreservedly shook its branches, indicating she shouldn’t hesitate.
"Girl, what are you hesitating for? Once this chance is gone, it’s gone for good. I’m really useful, I can bloom for you to see, later on produce peaches for you to eat, and I can even fend off ghosts and such on regular days. To let go of so many benefits and not contract with me, only if that cultivator is blind."
Is she implying I’m blind?
Eating peaches, well, that’s doable!
Lan Tian tilted her head and thought, if the peach tree is not afraid, she has even less to worry about. She searched in her Sea of Consciousness to see if she could find a contract spell.
"Little Tao, it’s not that I don’t want to help you. Master hasn’t taught me the contract spell yet, I really can’t do anything!" Lan Tian spread her hands, making a helpless gesture.
The peach tree was dumbfounded, how could it be like this? It was all ready, just like when you urgently need to go to the bathroom, you’ve already pulled down your pants, and suddenly realize there is no toilet paper. Isn’t it maddening?
"Don’t rush, keep looking, I’ll search on my side too." The peach tree had to turn around and console Lan Tian, feeling so frustrated inside that it nearly bled dry.
The peach tree also went all out, quickly rummaging through its ancestral memories, and actually found a contract spell. After a quick scan, something seemed off about this contract, it seemed not quite right for cultivators, was this contract reversed, turning into it contracting a human?
Can it even be like that?
The branches of the peach tree shook, they can be contracted by cultivators, so conversely, they might also contract cultivators! Why should it, a peach from the Immortal World, become a Qi Cultivation cultivator’s spiritual pet? Thinking about it contracting humans, to boss them around in the future, made the peach tree feel like it was floating.
A fleeting shadow passed through Lan Tian’s eyes. Just now, for a moment, she sensed the peach tree’s malice and was secretly on guard, unsure which remark had offended it, even though they were just getting along fine moments ago.
"In that case, I have a contract spell here; I’ll transmit it to you, quickly learn it, and once you’ve got it down, we can make a contract." The wise ancestors are formidable after all, having created their own Magic Formulas. The ancestors worried about arousing cultivators’ suspicions so they deliberately transmitted the formulas to cultivators, making them willingly enter into contracts. Even if the cultivators are slightly reluctant, they don’t need to worry about the backlash from the spell.
Being a Plant Cultivator is inherently pure and good, but who knows how many years this peach tree has lived, influenced by the mundane world, it has learned a bit of not-so-good customs, especially with the legacy it holds.
Previously, it lured Lan Tian here because it was too lonely and wanted someone to talk to.
Plant Cultivators have long lives, and in this world where spiritual energy is scarce, which doesn’t meet its needs, therefore the peach tree has never practiced cultivation. It simply lets nature take its course, and if it hadn’t thought today about contracting with the cultivator, it wouldn’t have realized this thing existed in its legacy.
