Chapter 58: 58

The village school only had four classes, covering kindergarten through third grade. The kindergarten nearly had fifty children, but every grade advanced, at least ten students lesser in each class. By third grade, only about ten students remained in the class. It was estimated that no students would be in the fourth grade, so no class was opened.

Lan Tian was going to start fourth grade in the second half of the year and needed to go to the town’s school, walking more than ten miles every day. There were only four people still studying in the village: Lan Tian, Taohua, Shitou, and Hui Li.

Lan Tian knew the herbal medicine chart by heart and could recite it fluently. Mo Yuanle saw her ease in learning and also showed her the Mo Family’s Handwritten Notes that had been passed down through generations, spanning several hundred years, and filled four or five large boxes.

During the chaotic period of wars, it was a mystery how Mo Yuanle managed to preserve everything. Over four years, Lan Tian had almost completely mastered these materials, surpassing Mo Yuanle in medical skills by a wide margin. However, Lan Tian did not start her practice; Mo Yuanle let her do as she pleased, unless he encountered diseases he couldn’t handle.

Usually, he would consult Lan Tian first, and she would come over to examine the patients and tell him how to treat them. Spontaneously, she would sometimes help treat Mo Yuanle’s patients, but only those from Mo Village, she did not see patients from other villages.

Yanhua studied for three years, taking her studies very seriously; Mo Yuanle taught her almost everything he knew. She was essentially a half-apprentice. Mo Yuanle helped her get a nursing job in the county hospital through his connections, which was a secure job. Her parents would come at night with fish and meat to thank Mo Yuanle, especially Yanhua’s mother, who would hold Zhao Li’s hand and gratefully tear up.

Chuntao, perhaps motivated by Yanhua going to the county town, did not marry her husband from her past life this time. Instead, she found someone from the town, whose family owned a grocery store. They set the wedding for the first month, and after Mid-Autumn Festival, the marriage was held.

Mo Junhua joined the army. After the initial six months of buying various books for study, he sent money back every three months, bringing in over a hundred yuan more yearly for the family. As Mo Junhua’s rank increased, he sent back more money, and the family’s life gradually improved.

Chunhua, whether because of what Lan Tian had influenced or from a sudden realization, started speaking to Lan Tian whenever they met. After becoming familiar with each other, they would occasionally seek each other out to play. Over four years, they unexpectedly became best friends.

If anyone talked about the biggest change in the village, it was Chunhua. She had become much more outgoing, greeting villagers proactively. What impressed Lan Tian most about her, was her initiative in approaching Mo Yuanle to learn medicine.

After teaching her for a while, Mo Yuanle noticed her talent was slightly superior to Yanhua’s. Not expecting her to follow this path, yet somewhat reluctantly, he officially accepted her as his apprentice. Lan Tian also played a role in this decision. Mo Yuanle chose an auspicious day and formally made her his student over a tea ceremony.

In the third year, Lan Tian took three herbal baths, which expanded her Dantian to twice its original size, storing dozens of times more Spiritual Energy than before.

Four years now, Lan Tian had stayed at the Qi Cultivation Second Level, but in the recent days of cultivation, she felt a breakthrough approaching. Breaking through to Third Level would lead to dozens of times more surge of Spiritual Energy, which might easily unsettle the village.

After informing her family, she decided to go into the mountains for potentially a few days to a month, hoping to return before the school term started, carrying the dry food Zhao Li prepared for her.

Grandma Sun and the others were used to this, as Lan Tian often went into the mountains for several days or half a month. After giving some instructions, Mo Yuanle walked her to the foot of the mountain and watched as Lan Tian entered.

Lan Tian waved goodbye to Mo Yuanle and vanished into the mountain behind. Today, she had decided to venture deep into the mountain to break through and practice spells, and possibly discover if there was anything else deep in the mountains. Gathering Spirit Grass only grew in places with dense Spiritual Energy – why would there be a patch at the base of the mountain behind the village?

As Lan Tian continued her cultivation, she gazed deep into the mountain, feeling as if something inside was calling her.

At the third-tier Qi Cultivation, she could practice many spells, albeit low-level ones. This was the mundane world, not the Cultivation World, devoid of many dangers. Not to brag, but with her Third Level Cultivation, she could easily defeat special forces in minutes and wouldn’t face any problem traversing mountains for explorations.

The mountain was tall, and the dense forest crisscrossed beneath patches of sunlight that penetrated the vibrant green leaves, sprinkling the jungle in dancing golden sprites. A gentle breeze carrying the barely audible whispers, like soft murmurs between lovers, fluttered through. Bright and colorful flowers swayed their stems as if in a dance from a fairy tale.

As Lan Tian ventured deeper into the forest, she felt an intense surge of Wood Spiritual Energy. Taking a deep breath, the air filled with Wood Spiritual Energy, comfortable enough to make her pores open and the Spiritual Energy in her Dantian seemed even more lively.

"This is a good spot for seclusion."

She found herself in a small valley, having reached its very end. To move forward, she would have to circle around a mountain peak. Beyond that was the deepest part of the woods, with the Wuyun Mountain Range further behind, likely harboring fierce beasts. Lan Tian practiced both physique and skills; a mere punch could kill a tiger. She was here to breakthrough, not to cause trouble.

Lan Tian looked around; the valley wasn’t very big, about four or five acres, flanked by towering peaks with steep cliffs that were hard to climb. The front was covered by dense forest, which was rarely visited by anyone; the bushes in the valley grew wild. Choosing this spot for secluded cultivation, any huge disturbance she made wouldn’t reach the ears of outsiders.

The two mountains seemed like conjoined twins, merging at the base before splitting into two peaks. It was Lan Tian’s first time seeing such scenery, and she found it a bit strange. She walked around the valley for a long time but couldn’t find any passable gaps. She looked up at the waists of the two peaks and chose the one that seemed to offer a better view for her temporary cave abode.

"Young lady"

As Lan Tian tugged on a vine on the cliff, preparing to climb, she thought she heard someone calling her. She looked around but saw no one, shook her head, thinking she had misheard.

"Young lady, you’re not mistaken, I’m talking to you. It’s been so long since I last spoke, I can’t even remember when that was. It’s been a long while since anyone came here, I’m glad to see you." The voice carried a husky, wistful tone.

"Who is it? Come out if you dare, what kind of being only hides and doesn’t show itself?"

Lan Tian was shocked; this person seemed to know her thought, could there be another elder here in seclusion? Clearly, his cultivation was higher than hers. Lan Tian dared not offend him, once she had learned in her past life, this world had superpower users and Ancient Martial Families, only she remained a Cultivator from ancient times.
