Chapter 41: Number 41
Chapter 41: Number 41
The three human traffickers hadn’t recovered their wits when the captain charged over with his team, knocked them down, and cuffed them. The three men on the ground were still desperately arguing, "Comrades from the public security, what law did we break? Why are you arresting us? We’re all honest farmers from around here; you’ve got the wrong people."
"There’s no mistake, you’re the ones we’re after," the police replied sternly.
Before the traffickers could say anything else, Mo Yuanle, having set Lan Tian down, charged over and began raining blows on the three men without restraint.
The human traffickers howled in pain, initially trying to dodge a few blows. The more they dodged, the more ferociously Mo Yuanle beat them. The three traffickers couldn’t escape, and as they covered their heads to fend off the blows, they looked up to meet Mo Yuanle’s fierce gaze, which seemed to wish he could flay and debone them. They were so terrified that they shuddered and wet their pants, releasing a foul stench into the air.
The traffickers were in so much pain that they couldn’t take it anymore and desperately looked to the police for help. The police, witnessing Mo Yuanle’s savage eyes, felt chills run down their spine and simply did not step forward to intervene.
The captain would never admit that he was afraid of this fellow villager. After all, the man had lost his child and was not unreasonably venting his anger.
It wasn’t until Mo Yuanle had beaten the three men to near death that the captain gathered the courage to step forward and dissuade him, "Fellow villager, stop hitting them, you’re scaring the children." But turning around to see Lan Tian’s indifferent face, the captain grimaced, thinking what kind of child this was.
Mo Junhua glanced at the child in his arms and then at the ferocious Mo Yuanle, his temple twitching. He couldn’t help but speculate that any man who wanted to marry the child in the future would probably have to be able to beat Uncle Mo.
Was it still possible for him to start training now?
Hold on, something seemed off. What did her getting married have to do with him? But thinking about the child marrying some man in the future made him feel very annoyed.
Meanwhile, the captain interrogated the criminals on the spot.
"What? They’ve all escaped?" The captain suddenly shouted, glancing over at Lan Tian, "When did this happen? The information I received didn’t say that. Speak the truth, was it you who sold them? You should know the Party’s policies; be lenient if you confess and strict if you resist. You better fess up honestly, otherwise what awaits you is the severe punishment of the law."
The sinister-looking man, clutching his chest in pain and grimacing, pleaded with a mournful face, "Comrade from the public security, I’m not lying to you. We just went to deliver breakfast, and when we opened the door, there was no one inside, all the children had run away. There was a ladder they had made inside, placed by the window. They must have run away through the window last night. There are mountains behind the house; we searched the mountains but found nothing, so we came here to look. I’m telling you the honest truth."
The man hated how crafty these kids were. If he had known, he would have nailed the window shut, as the other children they had caught before were never this difficult!
The captain didn’t know what to say to the trafficker and kicked him a few times as he made his way over to Lan Tian.
After beating up the men, Mo Yuanle washed his hands in a nearby ditch before picking up Lan Tian. Lan Tian heard the conversation and muttered into Mo Yuanle’s neck, "Uncle, the kids are still in the house; I’ve hidden them well, so they couldn’t find them. Wait for you to hold them off, and then I’ll go inside first."
Mo Yuanle felt there was something suspicious about this, and it was related to the girl. With so many people around, it wasn’t appropriate for him to ask, but since the girl said so, it must make sense, and he nodded in agreement. Mo Junhua caught a glimpse of the child whispering in Mo Yuanle’s ear, and felt odd that the uncle and niece had a secret he wasn’t privy to.
Before the captain could speak, Lan Tian smiled, barely hiding his eyes, "Police uncle, I hid the people, so that’s why they couldn’t find them. Uncle, let’s hurry up and go!"
Lan Tian patted Mo Yuanle’s shoulder, signaling him to hurry up.
"..." Comrade Captain, why did he feel like kids these days have all turned into monsters?
The uncle and nephew duo left everyone behind and dashed forward, with Mo Junhua closely following them. The Captain glanced at the kidnappers, left a few men to watch them, then waved his hand for the others to follow him.
The two arrived at the old house in one breath and saw the door wide open. Mo Yuanle looked at Lan Tian, and Lan Tian nodded at him, everything communicated without words. Then Mo Yuanle carried Lan Tian into the house, put Lan Tian down to secure the door, and Mo Junhua was tied up outside.
Turning around to see the empty bed, his gaze swept around the room, even under the bed, and indeed, there was no hiding place. Just as the kidnapper had said, they ran away in the middle of the night.
"Uncle, don’t come over."
After getting down on the floor, Lan Tian headed straight for the Array, stopping Mo Yuanle, who wanted to follow. Mo Yuanle could only halt. Watching the girl walk forward, she suddenly vanished.
Even though he was experienced and knowledgeable, he had never seen such bizarre events, frightening him badly, his spirit shook as he rushed forward, but only took a couple of steps before stopping again, anxiously watching the spot where Lan Tian disappeared.
Lan Tian was prying around on the ground, busily gathering up stones like a squirrel stashing nuts. When she removed all the stones, the situation in the room changed, and four children appeared out of thin air on the bed. Mo Yuanle’s pupils shrank, and he pinched his arm fiercely.
It hurt! It really hurt! It wasn’t just his eyes playing tricks.
Lan Tian crawled out from under the bed, dusted off the dirt on her body, saw Mo Yuanle’s daze, and pursed her lips, "Uncle, open the door!"
The trafficker was confessing to the Captain, seeking leniency. Seeing the Captain looking at him like he was a fool, he turned to look at the bed with four children lying on it, his eyes bulging wider than gongs, mumbling, "How can this be?"
Suddenly, as if he realized something, he started shouting madly, "There’s a ghost, there’s a ghost, Comrade Policeman, there’s a ghost!"
With the kidnappers handled, Lan Tian lay comfortably in Mo Yuanle’s arms, finding a nice position to sleep on his shoulder.
Following the police, they caught three traffickers and went back to the station. Lan Tian, sleepy and drowsy, peeked out from under her eyelids and continued sleeping.
What Mo Yuanle discussed with the police officers, she had no idea. She just wanted to sleep well and face grandma with all her energy, not wanting grandma to worry. She was even unaware that Mo Junhua had gotten off in the town and gone back to the village to spread the news.
When Lan Tian woke up, they had already reached the entrance of Mo Village. The Village Chief and the villagers were there to greet her, with Grandma Sun and Zhao Li standing at the forefront.
Lan Tian, eager like a fledgling returning to the nest, rushed into Grandma Sun’s arms, smelling the familiar scent of grandma, her drifting heart finally settled, rubbing her face against grandma’s and looking up at her grandma, who seemed to have aged a few years suddenly, grinned and said, "Grandma, I missed you, did you miss me?"
Grandma Sun, holding her granddaughter who she had lost and found again, cried tears of joy, wiping the tears from her eyes, patting her granddaughter’s gnawed-like hair, smiling kindly, "Missed, almost died missing you, come on, go home with grandma."
