Chapter 106: 92

Mo Junhua walked towards Lan Tian, measuring up her boudoir with a candid gaze.

Against the inner wall stood an antique purplewood bed with barricaded headboards on both ends, carved with flowers and vibrant birds. A pure white nylon mosquito net hung from the barrier, draping over and concealing the bed, beyond which one could see the sky blue pillows and a bright red quilt. It appeared hazy like flowers in the mist, an elusive sight that tantalized the imagination.

Opposite was a matching wardrobe, its doors slightly ajar, revealing neatly arranged clothing by season stacked shelf by shelf. Between the bed and the wardrobe was a desk, adorned with the Four Treasures of the Study—brush, ink, paper, and inkstone—as well as two medical books. The windowsill housed two potted plants, one with blooming white Camellias and the other a dazzling, never-before-seen red flower.

There was a faint, delicate fragrance in the room, unlike that of the Camellias or the other flamboyant flower. The scent seemed to elude discovery, but after a while, it left one feeling refreshed and alert, somewhat reminiscent of the fragrance worn by the girl.

The furnishings in the room were modest, even rudimentary, without even a mirror—it hardly resembled a young girl’s private chamber.

Mo Junhua looked around; there wasn’t even a stool to sit on. He certainly couldn’t sit on the bed—that would be beyond a cold glance; it would be like daggers from her eyes.

"I still need to buy some things. Come with me to the county town; I’m afraid I won’t make good choices on my own."

Lan Tian cast him a strange look and coldly spat out two words, "No going."

That his wedding preparation was incomplete was his family’s issue; it had nothing to do with her. How egotistical must Mo Junhua be to believe that she’d go out of her way for him?

As if anticipating Lan Tian’s refusal, Mo Junhua said, "I’ve discussed it with grandma, and she has agreed. She wants you to accompany me since it’s inconvenient for me to walk alone," his gaze fell upon his left leg, "There are some things I can’t do on my own. There aren’t many days left until the divorce period, and time is tight. We haven’t had time to prepare many things. I initially thought to ask Chuntao to join me, but she and Chunhua must stay at home to help my mother with our wedding preparations. Therefore, I can only ask you."

At that moment, Grandma Sun called for Lan Tian to come outside. Mo Junhua took a longing glance at Lan Tian’s room before following her out. He had to; the girl at his side was urging him to leave. As they headed outside, Lan Tian glared at him, warning him not to speak out of turn.

Mo Junhua suddenly offered a mischievous smile, "If you go with me, I won’t chat idly; otherwise, I’ll tell grandma that you’re bullying me."

Lan Tian laughed out of sheer frustration, never having seen such a shameless man—truly, who was bullying who?

Mo Junhua, as if blind to Lan Tian’s ridicule, said calmly, "Do you think Grandma Sun will believe you or me?"

Lan Tian stopped walking, staring straight at him, and suddenly regretted. Was the decision to be with Mo Junhua made too hastily? Who knows which monk was meant in the prophecy? There seemed to be others around at that time as well. Could it be that she wasn’t the one referred to?

Mo Junhua glanced at Lan Tian, noticing the flicker of doubt in her eyes. He knew he had agitated her again and felt a pang of regret. Could he be blamed? If anything, it was her captivating appearance that he couldn’t resist teasing.

Lan Tian really had no right to refuse, especially since Grandma Sun and the other two were going to the market to purchase dowry items. They urged Lan Tian and Mo Junhua to join them. Before, the family had not anticipated that Lan Tian would marry, so no dowry had been prepared. It was too late for custom orders; they had to hurry to the market to buy what they could.

Mo Yuanle had borrowed an ox cart and returned. Grandma Sun and Zhao Li took the money, and the group of five headed to the county town. The three adults discussed what to buy and where to find both quality and attractiveness. Meanwhile, Lan Tian and Mo Junhua remained silent. Grandma Sun and the others thought the two were feeling awkward and decided not to interfere. After all, how could two people who had known each other for over a decade not feel some embarrassment at suddenly getting married!

If Lan Tian knew what Grandma Sun Zhao Li was thinking, she would definitely choke on a mouthful of old blood. Where was she feeling awkward? She was clearly angry, okay?

Arriving at the county town, the eager Grandma Sun and Zhao Li couldn’t wait to hustle them off the bus, sweet-talking all the while.

"Don’t follow us old folks around anymore, it’s making my head spin. You young people go have a look around. We have quite a lot to buy, and who knows when we’ll be done. Once you’ve finished your shopping, head back on your own, don’t wait for us."

Zhao Li even stuffed some money into Lan Tian’s hand, urging Mo Yuanle to leave quickly.

Lan Tian stood there dumbfounded, having never seen parents, oh no, I mean, aunt and uncle, so broad-minded. What about her reputation? Although her reputation in the village wasn’t exactly great, it wasn’t bad either. Weren’t they worried that Mo Junhua might do this and that to her behind their backs?

Now, Lan Tian had no choice but to follow Mo Junhua, but she insisted on keeping a distance of a meter between them - this was her request. Having seen Mo Junhua’s thick skin, Lan Tian no longer held any hope for him.

Had she not been walking, she would have noticed that he was inching closer again, and if it weren’t for the consideration of his military image in public, his hands would probably have ended up in hers by now.

Lan Tian said irritably, "What do you want to buy? Just say it, the quicker we finish, the sooner we can get back. It’s not good to travel late." Her gaze maliciously fell on Mo Junhua’s legs, almost stating outright that he was a burden.

In fact, Mo Junhua’s leg was much better, no longer needing a crutch, though walking was still slightly uneven, not very noticeable, and he couldn’t walk too fast, having to take it slow.

"Let’s go somewhere first," Mo Junhua said, glancing at Lan Tian and stepping forward. Seeing Lan Tian catching up and walking alongside him, a flicker of amusement crossed his eyes and he continued to move forward slowly.

Mo Junhua had discovered early on that Lan Tian was someone with a soft heart. She might be fierce with her words, but was actually quite detailed and considerate. As much as she verbally disparaged him, she adjusted her pace to match his slow walk.

Lan Tian wanted to ditch Mo Junhua completely. Remembering Wang Guiyu, who treated her like her own daughter in her previous life, and having promised Wang Guiyu that she would cure Mo Junhua’s leg, she thought that if she left and Mo Junhua had an accident and became lame, it wouldn’t be good to explain to Wang Guiyu. After considering it, she decided to endure it.

Walking along, Lan Tian found the road somewhat familiar. Before she could recall why, Mo Junhua suddenly stopped. Lan Tian paused too and looked around. The nearby shops had nothing to do with marriage. For instance, the shop to the left sold flour, the one in front sold grains and oil, while behind was a bicycle repair shop, and to the right was a photo studio.

Lan Tian looked at him curiously, her eyes questioning why he had stopped.

Mo Junhua gave a meaningful look towards Lan Tian and headed for the photo studio.

Lan Tian followed from behind, "Weren’t you supposed to buy something? Why are you going into the photo studio?"

Photo studio?

Lan Tian froze for a moment, then remembered that she had once visited the photo studio - it was during that time she went to the county town to buy vermillion, and bumping into Mo Junhua, who was heading to the military. She was swindled by Mo Junhua and they had taken a photo together, after which Mo Junhua returned to the military, and she went back to the village. She had long forgotten about the photo incident into outer space.

Remembering that incident, Lan Tian suddenly halted in her tracks.
