Chapter 343: Vulcan’s Soul

Chapter 343: Vulcan’s Soul

Mineah remained cautious as she held the dagger close to her chest. Looking around, the Nikolai clones were all staring at her expectantly, all of them seemingly waiting for her to move close to them. She didn’t know what to do at the moment, however. All she knew was that she had to kill Vulcan, and she was pretty sure that only one of these Nikolais would be the right person to stab.

"Do you, now?" she carefully asked, moving closer to the middle of the room as if to give herself more room to look at all of its occupants.

"You’re here to kill me, obviously," Vulcan scoffed through the clones’ mouths. "Seeing that dagger in your hands is all the confirmation that I need to know that."

She raised a brow at his words. So he knew what was happening here, but why was he still here?

"Then you know what I’m here for. Why aren’t you running away then?" she questioned, her gaze moving through the clones to see if she could see a subtle difference between them all. "Surely, you’d just play it safe now while you have access to a willing host."

"Ah, but where’s the fun in that?" Vulcan chuckled with a low tone. "Besides, I’d rather be rid of that accursed dagger once and for all before I move on with my life. Letting you waste your one shot to kill me would be the smartest and most amusing thing to do."

Mineah narrowed her gaze at what she just heard. Based on what he just said, it almost sounded like she only had one chance to kill him.

"So this dagger will be useless after one stab then," she chimed in, hoping that the dragon would confirm her suspicion for her.

"Did I say that? I guess I did in between the lines," he scoffed. "That’s right. If you stab the wrong Nikolai, then you’ll not only kill your husband, but you’ll also get rid of the one chance this world can get rid of me."

The dragon’s arrogance was in full swing as he began to gloat about his supposed imminent victory. Not that Mineah minded it one bit. She wanted him to keep talking. More information meant that the chances of her making a mistake in killing him would inch closer and closer to zero.

"You’re talking like you’ve already won," she began, her feet slowly shuffling underneath her as she began to walk around all of the clones around her. "You’re not even attempting to kill me."

"Again, what’s the fun in that?" Vulcan smirked. "It would be more entertaining if I watched you throw away that dagger by stabbing into a fake. Seeing your despair once you realize that you’ve just doomed this world would be delicious, not to mention entertaining."

"You’re starting to sound much more evil than the Demon King right now," Mineah scoffed, passing by one Nikolai clone after the other, hoping that one of them would somehow act out of line. "Do you want to burn the world?"

"Burning the world is such a strong motivation," the dragon scoffed right back at her. "I look at it more along the lines of purifying the earth. That and it’s a bit of revenge for being sealed away from what is rightfully mine."

Mineah took a deep breath as she did her best to remain calm. The good news was that she was keeping the dragon entertained long enough that he was refusing to do the logical thing and just kill them all outright. Instead, he was being arrogant that she couldn’t kill him despite her currently holding his potential death.

This was good. She could use this.

"Lai?" she called out, ignoring the fact that Vulcan was currently in control. "Where are you?"

"Are you seriously trying that again?" Vulcan mocked her. "Haven’t you already seen that your husband is now mine?"

Mineah bit her tongue from replying. Instead, she focused on calling out to her husband again. "Lai? It’s me," she repeated. "I know you can hear me."

Around her, the clones began laughing at her as she weaved through one Nikolai through the other. She did her best to ignore them all, however, and thankfully, her efforts were rewarded when she saw one Nikolai who wasn’t laughing.

"Lai?" she asked the errant clone. "Is that you?"

The clone didn’t respond at first. But then, he let out a pained smile as he addressed her. "I knew you could do it, Mine."

Her eyes widened as she did her best not to break out in tears of happiness. Her grip on her dagger tightened as she rose it up high, all but ready to do what needed to be done.

"I trust you," he reminded her. "Aim for the heart. Stab his soul out of existence."

"I’m sorry, Lai," she gave him a pained smile of her own as she apologized. "I’ll try not to make this hurt."

"I love you, Mine."

"I love you too, Lai..."

"I love you, Mine," all the clones spoke, all eyes on her.

"Do it, Mine... I will see you soon." Nikolai spoke and Mineah grimly nodded at him, and with those last words still in her ears, she brought her dagger down straight into her husband’s heart.

"What?! No!!!"

Vulcan let out a pained scream for all but a second before he disappeared, dead to the world once and for all. Almost immediately, the clones disappeared, revealing the rest of the room once more as she was left with her injured husband and what looked to be an unconscious Devon by the side of the wall.

Moving quickly, Mineah moved her husband’s body to the magic carpet. They only had so much time left for them to safely escape. Devon could wake up any second now, and she didn’t really fancy her odds of facing off against him alone.

"Ugh... What the hell... What the fvck!"

Her eyes widened as a string of hatred-filled words echoed from behind her just as she boarded her carpet. Looking behind her, she could only hold her breath as Devon stood tall once more, his gaze promising a swift death to all that would dare cross his path.

"You..." Devon hissed. "You ruined everything!"
