Chapter 315: The Challenges Ahead
Mineah let out another sigh as she lay in bed, waiting for Nikolai to join her. He was still outside doing some work. It had been a challenge for her to find the right moment to discuss the problem of having a baby, especially with the divine dagger still residing within her. Tonight, she was determined to bring up the matter with him.
Her recent meeting with Queen Mother had left her feeling uneasy. She could feel how excited the Queen Mother was about the prospect of her becoming pregnant and she didn’t want to curb her excitement in any way so Mineah could only smile and reassure her.
However, the unexpected circumstances involving the dagger inside her complicated her plans. She and Nikolai were trying their best to conceive, and she yearned for it as much as the Queen Mother did. But who would have thought that this dagger would bound itself in her body? She had only meant to hide it from Nikolai, never imagining it would bond itself to her permanently.
Despite this, Mineah simply couldn’t allow herself to think negatively. She held onto a theory that the divine dagger would unbind itself from her once it had fulfilled its purpose: to stab the heart of an immortal and end her curse. But there was only one way to confirm it which was through that magical book of the Chronicles of Fallen Angel.
As she was deep in thought, she opened her closed eyes and quickly jolted to sit on the bed. She shouldn’t sleep yet. There were important matters to discuss with Nikolai, particularly his plan to join Ezekiel to infiltrate Helion’s Castle and retrieve the magical books concerning fallen angels and dragons.
"Mine, why are you still awake?" Nikolai’s voice brought her back from her stupor.
"You’re finally back. I was waiting for you," Mineah replied.
"Oh, I’ll just change and join you shortly," Nikolai said to which she nodded. She didn’t move and watched him closely as he moved about the room.
After some time, Nikolai chuckled as he approached their bed and joined her. He had noticed her gaze and constant sighs while he changed. So, with a curious tone, he inquired, "I feel like something is bothering you. I mean, you’ve been staring and sighing continuously ever since I entered the room at the same time."
With this, Mineah swiftly snuggled into him and buried her face in his chest.
"I’m so sorry..." she started. She felt a huge lump forming in her throat; it was difficult to voice her concerns. She didn’t want to disappoint him.
Nikolai was a good man and she was aware that his feelings for her would not waver even if she couldn’t bear him a child but... it would still make him sad.
Nikolai adjusted their positions so that he could look her in the eyes. "Mine, tell me what’s wrong. You promised you’d never keep things from me," he reminded her, making her gulp in nervousness.
Summoning all her courage, she began, "The dagger inside my body. I’ve tried removing it and even asked Zaila to keep it, but it keeps returning inside my body." She was trying to gradually lead up to the major issue at hand.
"Hmm, it could be because it’s meant to fulfill its destiny which is to stab an immortal heart right? I believe it will be gone once you accomplish that task. Your curse will be lifted too. It seems to me that everything is interconnected..." Nikolai divulged his theory which was the same conclusion she had come to.
However, her expression remained troubled, prompting Nikolai to question, "But I don’t see a problem with it. What’s that look for? The divine dagger is not harmful to your body, right? You even told me how it’s helping you restrain the chaos inside your body."
Mineah bit her lip as she fidgeted. Then she took a deep breath before saying, "But this dagger is also preventing me from growing a new life inside my body. It’s preventing me from having a baby, Lai."
A heavy silence followed. Mineah had never felt this anxious in her entire life. She was relieved she couldn’t read Nikolai’s thoughts right now because she was terrified of what he might be thinking.
She bowed her head as she fought back the tears threatening to stream down her face. "I am so sorry, Lai," she gasped weakly. Then she felt Nikolai’s arms around her, pulling her closer to him.
"It’s fine, Mine. I’m sure we can work something, out. I love you, and that will never change. Even if you can’t have my child, my feelings for you will remain the same," Nikolai whispered as he kissed the top of her head.
Mineah couldn’t contain her tears any longer. They streamed down her cheeks as she sobbed in Nikolai’s arms. "I am really sorry Lai," she kept repeating the same words, while Nikolai continued to comfort her, reassuring her that everything would be okay.
But for some reason, Mineah felt even worse because to her, it was never fine to not bear him a child. She felt helpless, and the more Nikolai tried to comfort her, telling her it didn’t matter, the worse she felt. How could it not matter? She wanted to fulfill his dream of having a family, of having many children together.
"We won’t give up Mine. We’ll still do our best. I believe the magical book about fallen angels will be able to help us. We just need to be patient and work through this together. So, please, calm down and stop feeling guilty or bad about this. I am so grateful that you spoke up and shared this with me. I know how hard it must have been for you, so thank you for opening up. Please stop crying now because it breaks my heart seeing you cry," Nikolai said. He gently wiped her tears and kissed her cheeks.
"Let’s keep praying and seek the Almighty’s help together, Lai. We’ll do our best to overcome this together. Thank you, Lai..." Mineah whispered as she kissed her husband lovingly. She resolved not to let negativity take hold. She wouldn’t give up and would continue to pray while working together with her husband to overcome the challenges ahead.
