Chapter 25: Their First Date (V)

"T-The King told me to give him grandchildren as soon as possible."

"..."

The woman was too stunned to speak.

...

’Grandchildren, grandchildren, grandchildren...’ The voices in Princess Camille’s head were telling her it was impossible to make children.

But then again, if they were officially married, could they do... lewd stuff too?

Rowan parted her fingers to get a clear view of Princess Camille’s reaction—it was as if she was trying to question everything. "I told him I’d work hard to grant his request. I asked how many grandchildren he wanted, and he replied, ’as many as you can give.’"

"T-That stupid, good-for-nothing old man." It seemed Princess Camille needed to give her father a good talking to right after their raft. "He knows we can’t- you know- it’s impossible for us to have children."

"Oh, um... does the princess not want any children in the future?"

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is sad. Princess doesn’t want to have kids.]

[Happiness: -30].

"...?!"

’Minus thirty?! That’s a lot of points being deducted for not wanting to have kids!’ In the original visual novel game’s happy ending scenes, each prince ended up with a happy family. A few illustrations even showed Rowan having a son or daughter, depending on the chosen prince.

’I-It’s not that I don’t want to have kids, Rowan! This whole situation is just so new to me... and I bet Father just said that to make fun of Rowan.’

Princess Camille shook her head, wanting to correct Rowan. She did indeed want children, but considering the situation they were in, Rowan had to understand. "Sigh... I-I know we can’t do it the way normal couples do, but let’s save it for one day in the future. We can adopt... and I would like to have children if it’s alright with you."

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is happy that the crown princess wants children].

[Happiness: +10].

"I-I’m happy to hear that it’s open for us to have children, your highness."

"...I’m glad that you’re happy."

’Oh dear lord, even that makes her happy. I don’t know if that’s cute or just downright scary.’ She prayed her little puppy would always wag her tail.

’Speaking of family, there was something interesting that came up when Rowan talked to my father that morning regarding her {Heroine Status} window.’ (Princess Camille) turned around for a quick second and opened the {Heroine Status} window.

’The family bond meter increased. I initially thought it was for something else, like Rowan’s relationship with her own family.’ She opened the notification window carefully, out of Rowan’s view, and backread the past notifications she had received.

Apparently, it was the opposite.

It tracked the relationship between Rowan and her new family, the royal family of Kastils.

Honestly, Princess Camille didn’t understand the true goal of the system yet. One problem was that there was only one main mission for now: to become a proper love interest.

How does one do that?

The second problem was that while she was happy with the new outcome of the story, her uncharted route could cause so many changes in the future.

She didn’t know what trouble lay ahead, and the last thing she wanted was Rowan getting hurt by something she couldn’t stop.

To win- usually in otome games like these with status systems! You need a good score to enhance your chances of survival.

"Ah, right- how about my brothers? Did you talk to any of them?" She remembered she had once talked briefly with her youngest brother, Prince Adiel Kastil.

What about the others?

"I did not talk to any of your brothers, Your Highness. I’m afraid they dislike me for not picking them. I am not good at talking with nobles I don’t know." Rowan, experienced in the field, knew that nobles were nothing but trouble. "I often stay quiet and make sure to keep things to myself. Stay out of trouble and out of any of their business."

"I only do my job as the General and protector of the kingdom."

Princess Camille nodded, half-agreeing with her. On one hand, it was good that Rowan stayed out of noble private business that didn’t concern her...

But nobles could also be important allies. If the Crimson General ever found herself in trouble, someone would need to back her up.

Her family... was one of them.

"Smart girl. In your case, that’s probably the best move. Now that I know you’re lacking in that area, maybe I can help. I’m quite the diplomat, my father raised me well." She was proud of herself. Adapting to a new world and trying to learn its culture, education, and history wasn’t easy.

Not to mention its manners and etiquette.

Rowan, on the other hand, thought it wasn’t necessary for the princess to go to such lengths. "There is no need to trouble Your Highness..."

"Nonsense. As if I’d let you do all the work! When you need help dealing with people, you can call me. My brothers don’t dislike you, by the way. They could never dislike you- it’s literally programmed into them to never do that. They’ll be great allies once we get you to meet them."

Princess Camille was on very good terms with almost all of her siblings- except for the second princess in line, with whom she had never gotten along.

"They truly don’t hate me?" (Rowan) asked, her guilt surfacing.

"They don’t. You just met them. They all agreed to the reward of your hand in marriage. Anyone who didn’t want to marry you was allowed to opt out." (Princess Camille) smiled, recalling her siblings’ excitement. "All of my brothers were eager and ecstatic- curious to see what kind of woman the Crimson General was."

That was the plot of the story, they were literally programmed to never hate the heroine. "Fufu, actually, my siblings and I made a bet on which prince you’d choose. My bet was on my youngest brother, Prince Adiel Kastil."

"Oh..." (Rowan) didn’t recall who any of the princes’ names were but waited for the princess to continue her story.

"We all lost our bets. I was questioned the next day as to why I was the one chosen. All of them were really curious and, honestly, a bit disappointed that they didn’t get picked. They all lost their money. But, fortunately for me, I gained something even better than shiny gold coins."

Princess Camille chuckled, clearly amused at the thought of her brothers secretly being bitter- not just for losing money but also for missing the chance to marry someone like Rowan.

"What did you gain, Your Highness?" (Rowan) asked curiously.

The princess winked, placing a finger by her lips. "Not telling. My prize is too oblivious to know."

"E-Eh..." Rowan’s dispirited voice made the princess feel guilty, and she finally confessed.

"I’m kidding—it’s you." She led Rowan by the fountain and tossed a coin into the water, silently thanking fate for bringing them together. "I have General Rowan by my side now. That’s far more important than some bet my brothers and sisters made. You’re my new cherished person."

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is happy. Warning Love Meter Full].

Rowan was deeply touched by the princess’ words. Her heart swelled with so much emotion that, in her mind, she resolved to give the princess ten babies as compensation.

"...I’m happy to hear Your Highness say that." (Rowan) instinctively held the princess’ hand, gently clasping it before looking into her emerald green eyes. She couldn’t hold back her feelings any longer. "I love you, Your Highness."

"W-Wha...?! What are you saying? We’re out in public!" (Princess Camille) quickly looked around, worried someone might have overheard such a cheesy line- there were children near the fountain!

"My apologies. I’ll only convey my feelings in private then. I was just... too happy."

For that reason, Princess Camille couldn’t argue. Rowan’s happy smile was just too cute. Instead, she decided to change the topic. "A-Anyway, General Rowan! If you don’t exactly have a date plan in mind, can we try everything I want to do today?"

Ever since she’d been transmigrated into this world, Princess Camille had been meaning to try a lot of things. Unfortunately, her royal duties kept her far too busy, and sneaking out often led to trouble.

"What are those things you want to try, Princess Camille?" Rowan asked.

"I’m glad you asked. I made a list all these years- starting from when I was just a little girl. I swore that after being transported here, I’d get to try out a few things. But the royal life doesn’t give you much time or freedom to wander around the city with all its strict rules. I always carry it around with me."

She handed Rowan the list, and it was long.

Rowan laughed nervously. Some of the items written were normal, but others included words and phrases she didn’t understand. "It’s... a very long list."

"Would you like to do them together with me? I know it’s a lot, but we can try to do as many as we can today and have fun!" With the promise of a fun date and the chance to fulfill the princess’ dreams, Rowan was offered something she couldn’t refuse. "So, what do you say?"

Rowan chuckled, glancing at the impossibly long list in her hand. "As if I could ever refuse you, Your Highness. Lead the way, and I’ll follow."

"Alright follow me! Onwards to our date!"
