Chapter 709: Chapter 708: Is There a Hole in Your Brain?
Wang Yongzhu was discerning as she made several suggestions, and by observing the reactions of Shopkeeper Wu and Ninth Young Master, she could tell that they were paying attention—and they were very interested indeed.
Knowing this, Wang Yongzhu then held her peace. After talking for so long, she felt thirsty and picked up the teacup, ready to drink.
Suddenly, a slender and pale hand reached out from the side, attempting to snatch the teacup from Wang Yongzhu’s hand.
Startled, Wang Yongzhu instinctively clutched the cup more tightly and looked up.
She saw Ninth Young Master staring eagerly at her and the cup in her hand.
Seeing such an enchanting face up close, Wang Yongzhu’s reaction was almost automatic—she nearly kicked out at him.
Her foot had already been raised when she realized it was not appropriate to kick someone and so she put it back down.
Ninth Young Master was thoroughly enjoying the conversation when Wang Yongzhu suddenly stopped speaking. He then saw her lift the teacup and instantly realized.
She was thirsty and wanted a drink.
He immediately remembered that the tea in the cup had been poured earlier and had gone cold by now.
How could he allow the Wang Family Young Lady to drink cold tea?
Ninth Young Master didn’t think much of it and reached out to take the cup to replace it with a hot one.
Accustomed to doing as he pleased, he didn’t think to say a word before reaching out. His hand had touched the cup, and he had thought it would be an easy matter to take it from her.
But when he tried to pull back, the cup didn’t budge, resting securely in Wang Yongzhu’s grip.
Not to be outdone, Ninth Young Master applied a bit more strength to his hand, yet the cup remained as immovable as if it had taken root.
He was momentarily nonplussed as he looked back at Wang Yongzhu.
Wang Yongzhu looked at Ninth Young Master as if he were a complete fool. Whose big idiot was this? What was his problem? She was in the middle of discussing business expansion with them, and this young master was trying to snatch her teacup? She couldn’t even have a sip of water in peace?
Zhou Bapi wasn’t even this greedy, was he?
Feeling irritated, she thought, it’s just a cup of water—she didn’t need it!
As Ninth Young Master reached out again to snatch the cup, Wang Yongzhu casually let go, and he stumbled with the cup in hand, falling onto the couch and getting himself and his face splashed with the leftover tea.
The atmosphere in the private room turned awkward in an instant as Shopkeeper Wu looked confusedly between the two.
Then he saw his own Ninth Young Master, with his clothes drenched in tea, lying there with an incredulous expression that oddly gave off a pitiable charm.
Good gracious, he must be seeing things! Shopkeeper Wu blinked rapidly, coming back to his senses. He quickly called someone in to clean up and arranged for Ninth Young Master to go change his clothes.
The young servant outside heard the call and hurried in. Seeing his master in such a sorry state, he exclaimed as if the sky had fallen, "Young Master, what happened to you?"
While moving forward and clumsily helping Ninth Young Master up, he said worriedly, "Young Master, are you alright? I brought some clothes for you to change into; let’s go next door and change. You must be careful not to catch a cold!"
Turning, he shot a glare at Shopkeeper Wu and Wang Yongzhu, warning, "Let me tell you, it’s fine if our young master is alright, but if he catches a cold, you’re all going to pay for it!"
Ninth Master Lee’s face showed some embarrassment as he kicked the young servant, "Shut up! Can’t you speak properly?"
He got up and walked towards the door, instructing before he left, "Bring Miss Wang a cup of hot tea. I’m a bit unkempt with my clothes dirty, forgive my brief absence. I will return after changing!"
After Ninth Master Lee had left, Wang Yongzhu looked at Shopkeeper Wu and whispered, "Is your Ninth Young Master’s head...," hinting subtly by pointing to her own head.
Shopkeeper Wu’s face was a picture of indescribable feelings.
He couldn’t figure out what act Ninth Young Master was playing today. He had only heard that Ninth Young Master was overbearing and narcissistic, not that he had a hole in his brain.
Wang Yongzhu now harbored some concerns. Having a scheming boss on the other side was one thing; merchants, after all, are shrewd, and as long as there’s enough profit, cooperation can continue.
But if the merchant on the other side had a hole in his brain, that was another story, because his behavior could not be reasoned with. What if he suddenly went mad?
Wang Yongzhu was already considering whether or not to pull out of this cooperation after a one-time deal.
Shopkeeper Wu, who had no idea that Wang Yongzhu was already contemplating not cooperating with them, still tried to salvage the situation: "My dear niece, about those points you were making earlier, there are some I still don’t understand. Could you explain them to me again?"
Wang Yongzhu smiled, but suddenly changed the subject, "Shopkeeper Wu, you calling me ’Miss Wang’ just now was quite inappropriate. I have already married Brother Song, so you should call me ’Lady Wang’!"
Shopkeeper Wu scratched his head awkwardly, "That’s my old man’s mistake! Speaking of which, I missed your wedding. I must give you a wedding gift later on to make up for it."
Seeing that Wang Yongzhu seemed reluctant to continue discussing the points she had made before, and being an old hand at reading situations, he didn’t bring them up again, instead following Wang Yongzhu’s lead, "When did you get married? Brother Song is indeed a lucky man."
He even made a joke, "Brother Song and I are of the same generation, so from now on, my dear niece, you’ll be my sister-in-law and will have to address me differently—"
Before Wang Yongzhu could reply, Ninth Master Lee’s voice rang out from the doorway, "Change what exactly?"
Shopkeeper Wu smiled awkwardly, seeing that Wang Yongzhu seemed not to want to elaborate, he deflected, "We were just chatting idly, Ninth Young Master, please take a seat."
And with that, he steered the conversation away.
Ninth Master Lee didn’t press the matter; he sat down in the seat of honor in a casual manner and said warmly to Wang Yongzhu, "Wang Family Young Lady, your suggestion truly opened my eyes. It is indeed a wise strategy! Rest assured, regarding the Riches Dye Workshop and that batch of fabrics, I, Lee Changnan, always keep my word. If I say it’s double the price, it will be double the price!"
Wang Yongzhu couldn’t help but glance at Ninth Master Lee; why did he seem like a different person just by changing his clothes?
The tone and attitude of his speech became much more serious and formal.
Since Ninth Master Lee’s attitude had changed, she wasn’t one to hold grudges, and she nodded in agreement right away, "Thank you, Ninth Master Lee! I will go back today and review these suggestions, and tomorrow I will bring Ninth Young Master a draft."
Ninth Master Lee’s eyes brightened. A draft?
He hurriedly nodded, "That would be most welcome—" but then he stammered, "Miss Wang, there’s no need to rush. Think it through clearly and take your time writing; we aren’t in any hurry."
Shopkeeper Wu on the side was eager to interject, how could they not be in a hurry? Of course, they were! The sooner they saw the draft, the sooner they could devise a plan and start making money!
But seeing Ninth Master Lee’s rare composure and that the dye workshop and fabric matter had been resolved, Shopkeeper Wu held back his words.
Ninth Master Lee, having made his decision, motioned for Shopkeeper Wu to prepare pen and paper briskly, "Bring pen and paper. Let’s draw up a contract right now."
