Chapter 625: Chapter 623 Of course it’s poison!
Inside the room, the Doctor looked around and noticed that no one else was there except for a person lying on the kang bed. Then he heard the continuing screams coming from the next room.
He hesitated and asked, "Miss, where is the patient? Have I gone into the wrong room?"
Wang Yongzhu pointed to the kang bed: "The patient is here. Could the Doctor please take a look and tell me if my father is feeling better today? Is it possible to move him now?"
The Doctor came forward and checked. Wang Laozhu had fallen into a deep sleep after taking his medicine yesterday and still hadn’t awoken.
After taking his pulse, he said, "He’s a bit better than yesterday, but he still needs to rest. Did this elder suffer from a stroke before?"
Wang Yongzhu nodded.
"The elder is now weak. He must avoid great sorrow, great joy, and anger; otherwise, I’m afraid..." the Doctor warned.
Wang Yongzhu expressed her understanding, "Doctor, it’s too noisy here, unsuitable for rest. We want to move the patient to a quieter place. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
The Doctor withdrew his hand, "No problem. Just be careful not to let him catch a cold from the wind."
Wang Yongzhu was relieved, "Then I thank the Doctor."
As she said this, she stood up to escort the Doctor out, signaling Wang Yonggui to accompany the Doctor out.
The Doctor was stunned. Was he not going to check on the person still screaming in this house? What about the one lying on the ground outside?
"Aren’t we checking on the rest of the patients in the residence?"
"The Doctor is joking. Where are there other patients here?" Wang Yongzhu said with a slight smile, looking towards the Doctor.
The Doctor got it immediately! He backed down!
"I must have heard wrong. There are no other patients in the residence, no patients!" The Doctor, having seen much of the dark secrets of patients’ families, knew this household probably had matters they did not want outsiders to know. As a doctor, one must possess good medical techniques and the ability to turn a blind eye, so he instantly knew what choice to make.
Wang Yongzhu nodded in satisfaction. The doctors in this county were different indeed, so tactful!
She instructed Wang Yonggui to escort the Doctor out and then hire a carriage to transport Wang Laozhu to the inn.
Wang Yonggui agreed, hesitating slightly before whispering, "Younger sister, take it easy, don’t... don’t let anyone get hurt!"
Wang Yongzhu looked at Wang Yonggui with a smile that was not quite a smile.
Wang Yonggui felt a shiver down his spine and immediately dashed out.
Wang Yongzhu went back into the room to see Wang Yongan already bruised and swollen, no longer retaining any of his usual composure.
"Mother, Fourth Brother, pack your bags. Once the carriage arrives, we will leave," she instructed.
Old Granny Zhang then stopped, stood up, patted the dust off her skirt, tidied her hair, and walked out huffing and puffing.
When the room was empty, Wang Yongzhu squatted down to look at Wang Yongan.
Wang Yongan was in pain all over, and the splash of cold water had soaked his clothing, sticking to his body and chilling him to the bone. It was unclear whether he was trembling from the pain or the cold.
His eyes, which no longer displayed their usual feigned gentleness, now revealed ruthlessness and malice: "You think you can escape? I... I’m telling you, you won’t get far! Don’t be delusional! Just obediently... obediently listen to me, become the County Magistrate’s concubine, and you’ll have a way to live. Otherwise, even if you manage to escape, can Mother, Laosan, Laosi, and Jinhoo escape as well?"
"If you’re smart, you’ll cooperate with me, and I can pretend that what just happened didn’t occur. Otherwise, as long as I, Wang Yongan, draw breath, none of you will think of leaving Yongcheng!"
Wang Yongan had completely torn off his mask of civility.
Wang Yongzhu stood up unhurriedly, "For the profound affection and generosity you’ve shown, dear brother, I truly have no way to repay you—except with a broken bone in return!" Before her words had finished, her foot was already pressing down on Wang Yongan’s wrist.
With a smile, she said, "I wonder, if these hands of the Scholar Master were to break, would the County Magistrate still regard you so highly, Second Brother?"
Wang Yongan’s face turned pale, "You wouldn’t dare!"
"Crack—" a muffled sound followed, and Wang Yongan let out a pained scream, writhing on the ground while clutching his wrist.
Only then did Wang Yongzhu sneer, "Of course I dare! Wang Yongan, don’t think you’re so great just because you’re a Scholar! If it comes to it, we’ll both be ruined!"
After speaking, she took out a pill and, grabbing Wang Yongan’s chin, forcefully shoved it into his mouth.
Wang Yongan struggled violently, shaking his head to resist swallowing it.
But he was no match for Wang Yongzhu’s strength. As soon as the pill was thrown in, it melted upon entry and slid down his throat.
Wang Yongzhu waited a bit longer before finally letting go.
Wang Yongan immediately rolled over, crawled to the side, and with his good hand started to gag himself, trying to vomit the pill back up.
But all he managed to do was make his throat bleed without bringing up anything more than clear water.
Wang Yongan, eyes red with panic, looked at Wang Yongzhu in horror, "What kind of medicine did you make me take?"
Wang Yongzhu smiled, "Considering our relationship, do you think it would be a tonic? Of course it’s poison!"
"The antidote! Give me the antidote!" Wang Yongan crawled forward, trying to grab the hem of Wang Yongzhu’s dress.
Wang Yongzhu remained calm, "Ah, Second Brother, when our whole family has safely left Qi City, that’s when you’ll have the antidote! Oh, and the poison takes effect in three days. When it does, for the first half hour you’ll be in excruciating pain, and for the second half hour you’ll suffer unbearable itching. Then, every twelve hours after that, you’ll experience it all over again. Enjoy it!"
With that, she got up and walked outside.
"Don’t go! Give me the antidote! The antidote—" In desperation, Wang Yongan doubted Wang Yongzhu’s words, but his life was at stake. He couldn’t take the risk.
Without looking back, Wang Yongzhu left the yard.
Wang Yonggui had already hired a carriage waiting at the gate of the courtyard, and Old Granny Zhang had packed the luggage.
Wang Yongping and Jinhoo wrapped Wang Laozhu in a quilt, carried him to the carriage, and the entire family carelessly walked out the door, unobstructed by anyone.
Once they left Wang Yongan’s courtyard, everyone involuntarily heaved a sigh of relief.
Old Granny Zhang asked cautiously, "Miss, we won’t have trouble after causing such a scene, will we?"
Wang Yongzhu reassured her, "Don’t worry! I fed Wang Yongan poison. As long as he wants to live, he wouldn’t dare harm us! Once father feels a bit better, we’ll head home."
Old Granny Zhang, in her haste to protect her daughter, hadn’t thought it through at the time. Once she calmed down, she remembered that their Second Brother was, after all, a Scholar. If things went south, she, an old woman, wasn’t afraid; she had only one life to lose anyway.
Her main concern was for her daughter’s safety. Hearing now that there was no danger, she finally felt at ease.
Wang Yonggui, upon hearing the word "poison," couldn’t help but shudder, warily eyeing his sister.
Dear lord, this sister was too fierce; at the drop of a hat, she’d start beating people, and after beating them, she’d feed them poison. Who would dare provoke her? He immediately began to review whether he’d ever said anything offensive to his sister in the past that might have been taken as a slight. He hoped he hadn’t been marked for revenge.
Meanwhile, Wang Yongping looked utterly confused. How had the situation escalated to such life-and-death stakes?
