The Country Maiden: Fields and Leisure -
Chapter 555 - 553
Chapter 555: 553
Her hand secretly pinched a soft piece of flesh on Song Chongjin’s waist, giving it a hard twist.
She could feel Song Chongjin’s breathing getting heavier.
Then she dragged the feigning drunk Song Chongjin towards the backyard, passing through a small door there was faster.
Even if Song Chongjin was discovered pretending to be drunk, he remained calm, simply leaning his whole body on Wang Yongzhu, especially with his tall stature, this lean put his arm over Wang Yongzhu’s shoulder, from the back, it looked like Wang Yongzhu was completely embraced in his arms.
Upon arriving at Song Chongjin’s courtyard, Wang Yongzhu tossed Song Chongjin onto the bed and twisted around to leave, but found her clothing being tugged.
Turning her head, Song Chongjin’s two pitiful fingers were lightly clutching the corner of her clothing, "Yongzhu, don’t go, stay with me for a while."
She looked at Song Chongjin for a moment until he lowered his head, then she snorted, "Lie down properly!"
Everyone was busy today and the bed in Song Chongjin’s place hadn’t been heated, the room was cold as ice, the bed was cold, and there wasn’t even any hot water.
At this moment, Song Chongjin seemed to be seven or eight parts drunk, probably having been force-fed quite a bit, and likely to suffer thirst and discomfort in the middle of the night, she couldn’t stay up to keep watch, but she could at least make him more comfortable right now.
Hearing the softening in Wang Yongzhu’s tone, Song Chongjin obediently released his fingers, lying on the bed, his eyes diligently following Wang Yongzhu.
Wang Yongzhu first heated up the bed, then boiled a can of hot water, wrung out a towel, and wiped Song Chongjin’s face and hands.
She also prepared a pot of tea, keeping it warm in case he got thirsty.
Song Chongjin almost greedily watched Wang Yongzhu’s back. From the time he came to his senses, when he was injured or sick without anyone to care for him, when he struggled to earn money, during those moments he could hardly bear, when he was alone, grappling with hardship, he had fantasized, in his weakest moments, that maybe one day, someone would bustle about for him, taking care of him with all their heart.
Without doing anything, just watching would make him feel secure and warm.
He thought he would never have such fortune in his life; these were just some unrealistic hopes during his occasional moments of weakness at night.
He didn’t even dare to dream such beautiful dreams!
But he had never imagined that he would have a day when his fantasy came true!
This day was twenty years late, but it had not been absent after all!
This belated warmth was too little, too precious, so precious that he almost wanted to cry at this moment.
At this moment, Song Chongjin knew that with Yongzhu in his life, his life was complete.
Wang Yongzhu, though aware that Song Chongjin kept staring at her, hadn’t paid it any mind.
Not until the room temperature had risen, becoming warm, and the bed was nice and hot, did she feel reassured.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard a scream in her mind, "Host! What are you doing? Why has the affection level of the mission target risen again?"
Xiao Tiantian? Wasn’t it supposed to be cooling off? These past days, she had nearly forgotten its existence, so why did it suddenly speak up again?
And mentioned the affection level had risen again?
Could it be?
Wang Yongzhu looked at Song Chongjin and realized that his eyes were incredibly soft at this moment, devoid of any of the usual coldness and depth, his eyes nearly brimming with tears.
There was even a hint of red around his eyes, was he moved to tears by her?
When Yongzhu thought about how Chongjin had never felt much warmth since he could remember, her heart softened.
While mentally telling Tian Tian to shut up, she held Chongjin’s hand and, in a rare gentle tone, asked, "Do you want some water?"
Chongjin nodded.
Yongzhu got up to pour him a cup of water, checked the temperature with the back of her hand, and then brought it to Chongjin’s lips to drink.
Chongjin felt as if he had floated into the clouds, dizzy and wanting to say something. When he opened his mouth, his throat felt so dry he couldn’t utter a single word.
He obediently drank the water Yongzhu offered, one sip at a time, thinking that even if she were feeding him poison now, he would relish it.
After he finished the water, Yongzhu thought about how he had been to Chongzi Gou since yesterday and probably hadn’t eaten much today, and had been drinking all day. Even an iron-clad body couldn’t withstand that.
"Are you hungry? Shall I cook you some noodles?" Yongzhu’s gentle manner made Chongjin wish time could just stay in this moment forever.
Reminded by her, he too felt his stomach was empty and quickly nodded.
Yongzhu patted Chongjin’s shoulder, "Alright, you lie down for a bit more. I’ll go cook the noodles."
Chongjin’s place had a kitchen, fully equipped too.
It was too much trouble to knead dough and such at this late hour, so she thought.
She simply went through the side gate of the courtyard back to the Wang Family, collected the leftover noodles that hadn’t been finished, half a jar of chicken broth, and a few Eggs, and brought them all back in a basket to this small courtyard.
She rekindled the fire, boiled the chicken soup, added the noodles, and even cracked a few eggs into it.
She brought the pot directly to the room, took two sets of bowls and chopsticks and dished out a bowl of noodles for herself too.
After a busy day, she hadn’t eaten well either, so it was perfect to dine with Chongjin.
Through the gap in the window, Chongjin watched the light in the kitchen and the steam rising, finally feeling as if this little courtyard had the sense of a home.
Seeing Yongzhu bustling about, Chongjin obediently sat up, took his place at the table, and waited for Yongzhu to sit down before starting to eat.
The chicken soup was savory, the noodles were chewy, and topped with a few poached eggs.
Just the smell made Chongjin’s mouth water, not to mention having his beloved by his side, as the two peaceably enjoyed a meal together.
He polished off all the remaining noodles and even finished the chicken soup, feeling warm all over. The suppressed alcohol started to hit him slowly.
His eyes grew tired, his speech slurred, and just as he tried to muster the strength to say a few words, Yongzhu dragged him onto the kang.
Holding Yongzhu’s hand, he soon fell into a deep sleep.
After tidying up the bowls and chopsticks, Yongzhu closed Chongjin’s door and returned to her own courtyard.
Old Granny Zhang had not gone to sleep, listening for the sound of Yongzhu moving around, knowing she had taken food to Chongjin’s place.
Now hearing her daughter return and the sound of the side gate being locked, she finally eased her mind.
After washing up, Yongzhu lay in bed and pulled Tian Tian out again, "Didn’t you say you were going to ’cool off’? Why did you pop out again? Also, has Chongjin’s affection for me reached the level of intimate achievement yet?"
Once the mute seal on Tian Tian was lifted, it was very flustered, "Host, how can you raise affection levels so quickly? Can’t you maintain the pace you used to have?"
