Chapter 292: Chapter 292: Daddy, Are You Unhappy?

Qin Yinyin’s eyes brightened, "Daddy!"

Bo Yunshen’s already profound gaze suddenly darkened.

Almost as soon as his emotions fluctuated, Qin Yinyin keenly felt it. She looked up, timidly looking at Bo Yunshen, "Daddy, are you unhappy?"

Bo Yunshen took a sip of his drink and walked over to Qin Yinyin’s side.

He hesitated for a moment but then relaxed, sinking his back into the sofa.

Before he answered Qin Yinyin’s question, Qin Yan walked out of the kitchen, carrying a bowl of egg custard.

She came over to Qin Yinyin and began to feed her the egg custard, bite by bite.

"Mama, why is Daddy not paying attention to Yinyin?"

Qin Yan’s movements paused; she glanced in Bo Yunshen’s direction and said softly, "Don’t be sad, Yinyin. Daddy will take you to Grandma and Grandpa’s house later!"

Bo Yunshen froze.

Was this a decision Qin Yan had just made?

Had he agreed?

Going to the old residence, causing such a disturbance, did Qin Yan plan to go there and speak ill of him, Bo Yunshen, again?

Bo Yunshen turned his head, staring fixedly at Qin Yan with a tone that was eerily calm, "When did I say I was going to the old residence?"

Qin Yan didn’t look back, "Dad just called and asked us to go over for dinner."

"I’m very busy!"

What he meant was that if he, Bo Yunshen, wasn’t going, were they, mother and daughter, supposed to go?

Almost immediately after Bo Yunshen finished speaking, the phone on the table rang, its screen webbed with cracks. The name "Manman" seemed to be splintered, unbearably glaring.

Qin Yan turned her head slightly, just in time to see the name.

Her lips twitched, her eyes carrying a hint of indifference, with shards of light seeping in, lending this indifference a faint shade of sorrow.

"Yunshen, you say you’re busy—are you busy meeting with an old lover?"

That tone...

A fire kindled in the depths of Bo Yunshen’s eyes.

That tone of the lady of the house, that brazen interrogation—what right did Qin Yan have?

Had she forgotten how she had claimed the throne of the Bo Family’s Young Madam back then?

"What’s the matter, Director Qin, you have a problem?"

Bo Yunshen sneered and then asked, "In what capacity does Director Qin wish to comment? Mrs. Bo? The Bo Family’s Young Madam? Manman’s best friend? Or perhaps..."

His gaze fell on Qin Yinyin; he clenched his teeth, his tone heavy and cold, "The mother of my child?"

No matter how it was phrased, the remark was laced with humiliation.

Qin Yan’s expression did not change; she chuckled lightly, her voice bland:

"It’s not about having objections, but, Yunshen, you are currently at the epicenter of public opinion. Meeting her might not be quite appropriate, right?"

"I heard that some reporters knocked on Lin Man’s door; do you really want to drag her into this mess?"

Bo Yunshen’s face darkened.

The phone was still ringing; Qin Yan held the porcelain bowl, her fingertips white against the spoon.

Bo Yunshen did not have the habit of saving phone numbers, but for many years, there had been one contact in his phone book.

Perhaps for a period of time, eleven years ago, it had been her—Qin Yan’s name, but now...

A flicker of perplexity crossed Qin Yan’s eyes.

While the two confronted each other, Qin Yinyin touched Bo Yunshen’s phone; the screen was shattered. Qin Yinyin slid a finger over it and precisely managed to answer the call.

In her childlike voice, she began, "Hello?"

"Yinyin?"

Lin Man’s voice was as always, light as smoke, like a spring flowing over the heart, bringing total comfort.

"It’s me! Aunt Lin Man, are you looking for my dad?"

When Qin Yinyin accurately called out that person’s name, Yanyan’s face turned pale. She stiffly turned her head to look at her daughter.

She was sitting between the two, legs crossed, head bowed, her pinkish-white cheeks still bearing a smile, seemingly in a good mood.

"Yes, where is your dad?"

Bo Yunshen’s hand was halfway out, intending to take the phone, but Qin Yinyin suddenly spoke:

"Daddy and mommy are together."

Bo Yunshen’s body stiffened abruptly, he looked at Qin Yinyin in disbelief; the little girl’s face wore a harmless smile:

"Aunt Lin Man, do you need something from Dad?"

"We’re going to visit Grandma and Grandpa’s house today, when we come back, daddy, mommy, and I will come to play with you, okay?"

Silence filled the other side of the line.

Yanyan suddenly snatched the phone and casually threw it into Bo Yunshen’s hand. She reached out and grabbed Yinyin’s shoulders, pulling the child into her embrace.

Her face was as white as snow, her heart felt as if it had been buried in snow. Even her breath seemed to freeze, carrying a piercing chill.

Lin Man’s voice seemed to echo in her ears again.

"Yanyan, the Bo Family forced me to have a child with Yunshen, to leave an heir for him!"

"Yanyan, you like him, don’t you? Please help me. The Bo Family just needs a child, they don’t care who bears it!"

How could Lin Man and Yinyin be so familiar with each other?

She suddenly remembered the news she saw at the police station.

Bo Yunshen had brought Lin Man back last night.

Yanyan almost wanted to laugh. Last night, at that time, Bo Yunshen still thought Yinyin was his daughter; he was so anxious to call Lin Man over!

Was Bo Yunshen planning to let Yinyin get to know her future stepmother first?

Yanyan closed her eyes. If that was the case, she would rather Bo Yunshen never find out his relationship with Yinyin!

Her mind wandered, snapped back to reality by the stabbing pain on her chin.

Yanyan’s gaze focused, crashing into Bo Yunshen’s gloomy eyes.

"Yanyan, you’ve taught your daughter well!"

Bo Yunshen’s grip was strong, causing Yanyan to cry out in pain involuntarily.

A trace of ferocity flickered in the depths of his eyes.

Qin Yinyin was only three years old. How could she be bragging to Manman unless Yanyan had taught her!

This point, being taught by her own mother, would surely protect Yanyan’s interests, help her stabilize her position!

Yanyan felt as if her jaw had been crushed by Bo Yunshen, the pain making her involuntarily gasp.

The atmosphere between the two became tense in an instant. Qin Yinyin, caught between them, instantly turned red-eyed.

"Daddy!"

"Daddy, don’t hit mommy!"

Qin Yinyin grabbed Bo Yunshen’s arm, her face turning pale with fear in her eyes.

Bo Yunshen’s reason returned sharply. He pulled back his hand abruptly, his expression dark.

Two deep finger marks were left on Yanyan’s chin.

She rubbed her jawbone, lowered her eyelashes, and checked the time on her phone: "Yunshen, it’s four o’clock, we should go to the old house now!"

The noise of upstairs renovation in the secondary bedroom was deafening. Bo Yunshen loosened his collar, lips pressed tight as a thin blade, he abruptly stood up and strode out.

Qin Yinyin watched Bo Yunshen’s retreating figure, her eyes brimming with tears:

"Mommy, does daddy not like Yinyin saying those things?"
