Chapter 123 Disgust
Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Disgust
Confident that no one would find out he mistook Mrs. Zhang for Manman, his expression remained overcast, but it had improved slightly since he left the house.
Still, Bo Yunshen felt a sense of unease inside.
He walked ahead while Mrs. Zhang, seeing Bo Yunshen’s figure disappear around the stairwell, finally allowed a relieved smile to cross her face.
Bo Yunshen had said not to go upstairs, so she didn’t insist, but instead went to the children’s room to help Sister Li with her work.
Upon seeing her, Sister Li frowned and said, "Weren’t you on the third floor? How come you’re here now?"
Mrs. Zhang’s face beamed with joy as she said, "Old Li, let me tell you, I think the madam worrying about not having grandchildren is completely unnecessary."
She turned her head carefully to check the doorway, making sure no one was there, then pursed her lips and whispered to Sister Li, "Although they seem at odds on the surface, they’re actually fiery at night."
"Yesterday evening, because it got too intense, the Fourth Young Master’s back wound split open again, his shirt all soaked with sweat and blood. The Fourth Young Madam had me fetch a change of clothes in the middle of the night."
Surprised, Sister Li arranged the bedsheets and said, "Don’t spout nonsense here. Their three-year marriage is publicly known to be a sham! The young master’s philandering is a well-known fact. Besides, if what you’re saying is true, why would he still be gallivanting around if he already has a beauty like the Fourth Young Madam?"
Sister Li thought Mrs. Zhang had spent too much time with the madam and had become delusional due to exaggerated expectations, not taking her words to heart at all.
Seeing her disbelief, Mrs. Zhang stepped forward and said, "Hey, you silly old thing, why would I lie to you? Just now, the young master even threatened me not to speak of last night’s events."
Mrs. Zhang’s lips twitched, and the creases on her face seemed to dance, her expression wildly exaggerated.
"Moreover, why do you think I came here? Didn’t the young master send me back down when I was heading upstairs?"
"When I went up to deliver the clothes last night, I saw it, the bedsheets were soaked! Just now, the young master said having the Fourth Young Madam upstairs was enough— isn’t that an attempt to cover things up, what else could it be?"
As she spoke, Mrs. Zhang helped Sister Li tidy up the children’s room’s bedsheets.
Bo Yunshen was unaware that Mrs. Zhang had ignored his threat and passed on last night’s incident to Sister Li, albeit not quite as he had believed it to be.
After he went downstairs, he saw Mrs. Bo and Qin Yinyin watching TV. On the single sofa, Bo Yuanshan sat with a cup of coffee at hand and a newspaper in the other, the atmosphere seeming surprisingly pleasant.
Sitting down in the dining room, the old mansion’s servants began to bring dishes to the table one by one.
With a deep furrow between his brows, Bo Yuanshan asked, "Where’s Yanyan? Why did you come down alone to eat?"
On hearing this, Bo Yunshen snorted. He reached for a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and took a sip before replying, "Dad, what are you talking about? Qin Yan has legs; she can come down herself if she’s hungry, can’t she?"
Bo Yuanshan was about to speak when footsteps sounded from the stairs, and Qin Yan came down.
Upon reaching the bottom, she greeted Mr. Bo and Mrs. Bo. The three of them had been waiting for the couple, and once everyone was together, they began to eat.
Shen Ruyun, Jiang Xue, and Fang Weiwei, the three sisters-in-law, were absent. Everyone at the table adhered to the principle of eating in silence, save for the occasional exchange between Qin Yan and Qin Yinyin as she fed her. There wasn’t another sound at the table.
Bo Yunshen had developed a fever the previous night, and even though it had mostly subsided, he still had little appetite.
The old house served a Western breakfast, and Bo Yunshen ate sparingly, though he drank most of his glass of orange juice.
Just as he set down his utensils, he looked up and suddenly met Mrs. Zhang’s eyes. She stood behind Bo Yuanshan and, catching Bo Yunshen’s glance, smiled at him.
Mrs. Zhang’s face was a maze of wrinkles, smiling broadly.
When Bo Yunshen used to return to the old mansion, Mrs. Zhang and Sister Li always greeted him with beaming smiles, but this time, when he saw Mrs. Zhang’s smiling face, Bo Yunshen felt nothing but nausea!
Unable to hold back, he suddenly bent over and vomited everything he had just eaten.
Mrs. Bo was startled by Bo Yunshen’s appearance. She lost her appetite as well and quickly stood up, moving to her son’s side. She reached out to pat Bo Yunshen’s back but, afraid to touch his wounds, her hand hung in the air before falling back to her side.
"What’s going on? Why did you vomit during the meal? Did you catch a cold because the air conditioning was set too low last night?"
After Bo Yunshen had vomited, his stomach was empty, but the urge to retch persisted. He dry-heaved into the trash can, and as the smell dispersed, Bo Yunshen’s aversion to dirt made him feel even more disgusted.
Mrs. Bo watched with a pained heart.
Her son had been whipped because of Qin Yan. He couldn’t see a doctor, and now he had caught a cold, too. Even a body of iron couldn’t endure all this!
"Qin Yan, what’s going on with Yunshen? He has injuries on his body, why didn’t you take better care of him last night?"
Qin Yan’s movement of feeding Qin Yinyin paused, as Mrs. Bo’s voice continued to ring in her ears:
"If it wasn’t for your lack of clarity yesterday, would Yunshen have suffered those whippings? Aren’t you deliberately making life difficult for him?"
Mrs. Bo’s eyes reddened instantly, and Qin Yan tightened her grip on the bowl.
She had taken care of Bo Yunshen for most of the previous night, and when she got up in the morning, although Bo Yunshen was better, she was disoriented and saw double.
After being troubled by Bo Yunshen, she had to deal with Mrs. Bo.
Qin Yan took a deep breath, her forehead hinting at fatigue.
"Even if you have some dissatisfaction with Yunshen, you shouldn’t make a joke out of his health at such a critical time!"
"Enough! Ah Ru, what does this have to do with Yanyan?"
Bo Yuanshan raised his voice, "What kind of weather is it now? The temperature of the air conditioning was also pre-set by Mrs. Zhang and the others. How could he catch a cold?"
The atmosphere at the dining table became tense in an instant due to Bo Yuanshan’s defense, and Mrs. Bo’s face darkened immediately: "What do you mean? My son deserves to suffer, is that it?"
"In this house, I don’t even have the right to ask a question..."
Qin Yan instinctively reached out to hold Mrs. Bo, herself unclear about the reason for Bo Yunshen’s vomiting.
Wishing to prevent Mrs. Bo and Bo Yuanshan from arguing further, Qin Yan reluctantly took the blame, saying, "Mom, Dad, I’m sorry, I didn’t take good care of Yunshen."
Bo Yunshen felt a buzzing in his ears, and the sick feeling in his stomach did not subside but became a chaotic noise in his ears.
Suddenly, he stood up, pushed past Mrs. Bo, who was standing in front of him, and headed straight for the master bedroom on the third floor.
Bo Yunshen’s aversion to dirt was severe, and he felt a resistance even to intimate contact with Qin Yan, let alone someone like Mrs. Zhang!
