Chapter 12: Chapter 12 It Breaks My Heart to See It
In Yinyin’s words, there was no hint of complaint, but Qin Yan felt a heavy weight in her throat as she repeated her explanation:
"The newspapers are all made up, just to fool children. It’s just the company’s marketing strategy. Haven’t I told you before? Daddy loves Mommy, and he loves Yinyin too. Don’t you believe what Mommy said? Instead, you believe the nonsense written in the newspapers from who knows where?"
Yinyin’s eyes looked as if they had been soaked in water, red and brimming with tears that seemed to fall like pearls off a string, landing heavy on Qin Yan’s hand.
Hearing Qin Yan’s words, Yinyin extended her tender little hand and wiped away her tears, saying, "Mommy, I believe you, and I believe Daddy too. But I’ve never met Daddy, and I want to ask if Tang Tian is his mistress and if there’s a baby between them..."
Ask Bo Yunshen?
Qin Yan was again reminded of the incident at the hospital where the man callously collided with and cursed Yinyin, calling her a bastard!
She had tirelessly protected Luo Shen Bay’s and Tang Tian’s reputations in the first instance, yet when she just suggested that Bo Yunshen should drop off Yinyin at school, he didn’t agree.
And this was something Bo Yunshen had initially agreed to himself!
How could Qin Yan dare to let Yinyin ask Bo Yunshen about his relationship with Tang Tian?
She feared he would directly tell Yinyin that she was a bastard.
Since Qin Yan had given birth to Yinyin, Bo Yunshen had never acknowledged her, and neither had the people from Bo Mansion; to this day, Yinyin still carried Qin’s name.
For the first time, Qin Yan felt such hate for her own helplessness, unable to fulfill even such a small wish of Yinyin’s.
Seeing Qin Yan lost in thought, Yinyin tugged at her clothes again, her mouth slightly agape, her eyes brimming with shining tears, and asked, "Can we, Mommy? Can you take me to meet Daddy? I want to ask..."
Qin Yan grasped the cloth in Yinyin’s hand firmly and harshly yanked it out of her palm.
Her veins stood out on her hands, her face suddenly fell, and she blurted out angrily, "Find what Daddy? You don’t believe what I say! The newspapers were already writing nonsense about Daddy and Mommy, which has upset me, and yet you also don’t believe in Daddy and me!"
"Are you trying to infuriate me?"
Seeing Qin Yan angry, Yinyin’s face instantly turned pale, her fingers twisting aimlessly together, her gaze blankly fixed on Qin Yan, and in her dark agate-like eyes, tears that had initially receded swiftly fogged up again.
She choked up, her voice thick with tears and nasal sound, "Mommy... I’m sorry, please don’t be angry..."
Qin Yan struggled to hold back the tears that nearly fell along with Yinyin’s, sharply turning her head aside and pinching her nose bridge to relieve the sourness.
Unable to bear it any longer, Aunt Xiangxiang reached out and held Yinyin in her arms; her brow was deeply furrowed, "Yanyan, can’t you talk to Yinyin with a bit more patience? She’s just a child. Seeing her crying like this hurts my heart, and you’re not even comforting her, yet you blame her?"
She had just reprimanded Qin Yan, then turned to notice the tear at the corner of her eye.
With a softened heart, Aunt Xiangxiang softly poked Qin Yan, coaxing, "Yanyan, don’t be angry anymore. Let’s head back home, shall we?"
Because of Qin Yan’s outburst, a few onlookers had gathered nearby, making Qin Yan nod somewhat awkwardly.
After taking a few steps, Yinyin tugged at Qin Yan’s hand. Qin Yan turned around and silently stared at her.
Yinyin behaved obediently; after getting on the car, she quietly sat in the child seat, and when they arrived home, she closely followed Qin Yan out of the car, sticking to her.
Once inside, as Qin Yan put down her bag, Yinyin slipped her little hand in, her voice timid, "Mommy, today at school I received a little red flower."
Qin Yan, after all, couldn’t harden her heart toward Yinyin. She knelt down to adjust Yinyin’s collar that had somehow lifted up, and praised her, "Yinyin is awesome!"
Upon hearing this, Yinyin wrapped her arms around Qin Yan’s neck.
Having taken care of Yinyin for so long, Qin Yan almost immediately sensed something off about Yinyin as soon as she got close. She touched Yinyin’s forehead, which was slightly feverish.
"Click!"
As Lu Xiang entered, she saw the two of them embracing. Leaning on the entrance with one hand, she smiled and said, "Oh, have you two made up already?"
Qin Yan, feeling somewhat anxious, said, "Xiangxiang, in the second drawer under the TV, there’s a medical kit. Could you get it for me? I feel that Yinyin is a bit warm, and I want to take her temperature."
Upon hearing this, Lu Xiang immediately found the thermometer in the medical kit and handed it to Qin Yan.
Five minutes later, Lu Xiang asked, "How is it?"
"A bit of a low fever."
"Should we go to the hospital? I’ll go start the car."
Qin Yan, who had studied medicine, knew this temperature wasn’t serious enough to rush to the hospital. She shook her head and said to the impulsive Lu Xiang, "It’s normal for children to have a low fever. Let her go to sleep early, and she should be fine after sweating it out."
Lu Xiang glanced at Yinyin, who was snuggled up in Qin Yan’s arms, and pursed her lips, her gaze lingering.
Qin Yan didn’t notice Lu Xiang’s expression and cooed a few words to Yinyin.
Her heart couldn’t help feeling somewhat sad, knowing that Yinyin’s low fever was somewhat related to not being able to see Bo Yunshen, but...
Bo Yunshen really disliked her, and by extension, he disliked Yinyin as well.
Yinyin touched her stomach and said softly to Qin Yan, "Mommy, I’m a bit hungry."
"Then you stay with Aunt Xiangxiang for a while, and Mommy will go cook some noodles for you, okay?"
Yinyin nodded, and Qin Yan stood up. Just as she was about to speak, Lu Xiang said, "I’ll watch her; you go ahead!"
As soon as Qin Yan left, Yinyin pulled out her homework from her little backpack and placed it on the table, then moved a small stool over to sit by the coffee table.
For some reason, Lu Xiang suddenly remembered Tang Tian, who had been arguing with Qin Yan at the hospital. She thought how blind Bo Yunshen was, falling for Tang Tian’s flashy and cheap antics, knowing she couldn’t bring up a good child!
She wasn’t as beautiful as Qin Yan, nor did she have her poise, not to mention the numerous big contracts Qin Yan had secured for Bo Group in these three years!
If Bo Yunshen was blind to that, it was even worse that he spent money on prostitutes!
His poor little Yinyin was saddened by such a worthless dad!
Lu Xiang turned her head and glanced at the firmly closed kitchen door, then crouched down beside Yinyin, "Sweetie, do you really miss seeing Daddy?"
As soon as Bo Yunshen was mentioned by Lu Xiang, Yinyin’s eyes filled with loss. She unconsciously bit her rosy lower lip and said nothing, clearly mindful of Qin Yan, who had just had an outburst in the hospital.
But her facial expression said it all.
