Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Daddy, is your last name Bo?

Qin Yinyin’s mouth was quite sweet, and she didn’t look displeasing. However, having been by Qin Yan’s side for so long, who knew if she had already been taught all sorts of tricks by Qin Yan!

He shifted his body toward the couch but did not pay attention to Qin Yinyin, assuming that she would know better than to persist. However, she moved closer and sat down in the small space that had opened up next to Bo Yunshen.

Getting closer, Qin Yinyin’s round face lifted into a smile, and then she extended an apple toward Bo Yunshen.

Bo Yunshen was already sitting on a one-seater sofa, and her presence made it feel even more cramped, especially since she could not sit still, swinging her legs up and down.

Bo Yunshen’s long legs were forcefully confined by Qin Yinyin.

His already precarious temper darkened further.

Yet, Qin Yinyin was still struggling to hold up the apple, handing it to him saying, "Daddy, you eat."

Qin Yan, sitting opposite Bo Yunshen, saw Yinyin’s gesture and her heart started pounding.

From what she knew of Bo Yunshen, he already disliked Yinyin and thought she was a stain upon him.

Moreover, Bo Yunshen was a germaphobe and rarely let people get close to him on normal days, certainly not changing this habit just because Yinyin was a child!

Qin Yan frowned and subconsciously set down the fruit knife, and took two steps toward Qin Yinyin. She pressed down on Qin Yinyin’s hand that was holding the apple:

"Yinyin, Daddy is already an adult and can peel his own apple! Why don’t you come sit with mommy and not disturb daddy from reading his newspaper, okay?"

Qin Yinyin tilted her head to look at Bo Yunshen, seemingly unwilling to give up.

Qin Yan didn’t dare to pull her forcefully, worried that she would realize that the happy and fulfilling family she had portrayed was just a fairy tale!

Licking her lips, Qin Yan tentatively moved to hug her daughter, but before her hands reached Yinyin, Bo Yunshen suddenly moved. He took the apple from Qin Yinyin’s hand and glared darkly at Qin Yan:

"Just because you got beaten up, doesn’t mean I can’t eat an apple you peeled?"

Qin Yan was taken aback by Bo Yunshen’s sudden remark, her hand hanging awkwardly in midair, uncertain whether to continue reaching for Yinyin or to withdraw it.

Bo Yunshen looked at Qin Yan with great distaste.

He didn’t understand the nonsense Qin Yinyin was talking about, what did she mean about him being able to peel on his own?

Was it tomato juice that flowed in his veins, meant to scare others?

He bit harshly into the apple; the fruit in the old mansion was exceptionally fresh and sweet. The only downside was that it was too crisp, which, for someone with injuries, meant that each bite tugged at his wounds.

Bo Yunshen’s face darkened again, his glance at Qin Yan was obscure.

She smoothed her long hair beside her ear, her gaze distant and bland. Sitting there, they somehow resembled a family of three!

Bo Yunshen’s view of the newspaper carried a shaded tone.

The room fell silent for less than half a minute before Qin Yinyin tugged at Bo Yunshen’s sleeve and asked:

"Daddy, is your last name Bo?"

Bo Yunshen, holding the apple Qin Yinyin had given him, hummed indifferently, showing little interest in engaging with Qin Yinyin.

Just like their first meeting, Qin Yinyin moved closer again, not at all uncomfortable by his disregard; rather, she tilted her head and looked at Bo Yunshen, asking:

"Then why does everyone in the class have their father’s surname, but Yinyin doesn’t?"

"Little fatty and the others all do, but I share a surname with mom... Why is that?"

Her question caused Qin Yan’s heart, which had just settled, to leap violently again. A trace of panic clouded her beautiful face, and she didn’t dare to look at Bo Yunshen’s expression. Instead, she instinctively reached out and picked up Qin Yinyin from the couch.

"Yinyin! How has Mom taught you? When you talk to others, you must not ask so many questions."

Her voice was full of chaos, and Bo Yunshen’s movements froze. His gaze, sharp as ice picks, slowly shifted onto Qin Yan.

Ah!

So he was waiting here for him. Good thing he hadn’t left!

If he had left, perhaps Qin Yinyin’s question would have reached the old man!

Perhaps by tomorrow when he woke up, he would find that Manman hadn’t returned and there was suddenly an additional daughter registered under his name!

Such a profound question, how could a three-year-old ask it?

Was it Qin Yan who taught her?

A heavy gloom shrouded Bo Yunshen’s heart.

Was he not allowed to ask other people so many questions?

Now she wouldn’t let her ask; doesn’t Qin Yan realize that she’s only making things worse?

Under Bo Yunshen’s intense stare, Qin Yan felt like she was on pins and needles. Qin Yinyin, oblivious to the tension, snuggled in her mother’s arms and obediently asked, "Mommy, is Daddy also ’someone else’?"

Qin Yinyin’s questioning had always been persistent. She had known that, as Yinyin often left her speechless with inquiries, but she had never found it problematic, merely thinking her daughter was precocious!

But today’s question left Qin Yan feeling bitter and powerless.

Even if she had created the most beautifully happy environment, the fake would inevitably remain fake. Even if Qin Yinyin was very young, she could still sense something off through the cracks in the fabricated lies.

This family was, after all, different from others.

Qin Yan pursed her lips and taking Yinyin’s hand, forcibly changed the topic, "Yinyin, we’re going to stay at Grandma and Grandpa’s house tonight. Let’s not linger here and go up to see what our room looks like?"

"Yes!"

Qin Yinyin nodded her head and followed Qin Yan to leave.

As they passed by Bo Yunshen, Qin Yan distinctly heard a cold scoff escaping from between his lips.

The light bathed him, as if coating him with a layer of faint frost; there was no need to get close to feel the chill.

Qin Yan couldn’t help but hasten her steps, fearful that Bo Yunshen might say something irrevocable in front of Qin Yinyin, and took her upstairs.

Once on the second floor, she finally caught her breath and slowed her pace.

As Qin Yan and Yinyin were ascending the stairs to the third floor, Mrs. Bo called out to them.

She stopped and saw Mrs. Bo walking towards her. Glancing downstairs, she asked, "Where’s Yunshen? Why didn’t you sit for a while longer?"

Qin Yan pursed her lips again and said, "We’re a bit tired and wanted to see if Mrs. Zhang needed any help upstairs."

Mrs. Bo frowned upon hearing this.

She pressed her lips tightly, glancing at Qin Yan, then lowered her head to Yinyin, "Yinyin, would you like to sleep with Grandma tonight?"

As soon as Mrs. Bo spoke, Qin Yan understood her intention and instinctively took Yinyin’s hand, whispering, "Mom, you and Dad must be tired today. Yinyin is still young and might disturb your rest if she sleeps with you..."
