Chapter 795: Chapter 795: Ugly Daughter-In-Law Meets the In-Laws_1

Xia Qingtian followed Mrs. Huo into the hospital, her sense of foreboding growing heavier as the all-too-familiar route drew nearer.

Indeed, her dread was confirmed.

Upon entering the hospital, Mrs. Huo immediately made for Huo Qilin’s ward.

Very quickly, Mrs. Huo arrived at Huo Qilin’s ward. Without even knocking, she pushed the door open and walked right in.

Immediately, a stern rebuke came from within the ward, "Huo Qilin, what are you doing?"

Xia Qingtian’s heart quickened, and she immediately hastened into the ward only to find Cheng Bingbing and Huo Qilin embracing.

Looking as if she’d been startled by Mrs. Huo’s sudden entrance, Cheng Bingbing pushed Huo Qilin away. Although Huo Qilin was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital that day, his injuries hadn’t fully healed. He violently winced in pain .

Hearing his groan, she snapped back to reality, suddenly aware of his injuries.

She reached out, worried about his wounds, but before she could touch him, a large hand forcefully slapped her own away, "Back off, don’t touch my son with your filthy hands."

With that, she gave Cheng Bingbing a forceful push.

Caught off guard, Cheng Bingbing staggered back a few steps and almost fell over.

Luckily, Xia Qingtian, acted quickly and took a couple of steps forward to steady her, "Bingbing, are you alright?"

Cheng Bingbing’s face was somewhat pale, but she answered, "I’m okay."

Xia Qingtian carefully studied her. Seeing no sign of pain, she felt relieved, knowing that Bingbing hadn’t been hurt, and it wasn’t just bravado to spare Xia Qingtian from worry.

When Cheng Bingbing had steadied herself, Xia Qingtian let go of her.

Even though Huo Qilin was still in some pain, he was more concerned about others. He frowned at Mrs. Huo, "Mom, what are you doing?"

He spoke harshly, but Mrs. Huo was even harsher.

"You dare ask me what I’m doing? You didn’t even tell me about your injuries! If I hadn’t stumbled upon you sitting in a wheelchair on the news, I wouldn’t know a thing," she said angrily.

Her anger growing, she wanted to give him a beating. However, remembering his injuries, she held herself back, "You’ll be the death of me!"

In this matter, Huo Qilin felt somewhat guilty.

He graciously apologized to Mrs. Huo, "Mom, I was wrong."

Yet, he wasn’t particularly concerned. He understood Mrs. Huo all too well. When dealing with him, she was all bark and no bite.

Indeed, the moment she heard his apology, her grim expression softened.

Huo Qilin knew he had cleared this hurdle.

He glanced at Cheng Bingbing and began to introduce her officially to Mrs. Huo, "Mom, this is Bingbing, she’s my..."

His words were abruptly cut off.

"Alright, you’re being discharged today, right? Have the discharge procedures been completed?" Mrs. Huo asked him, "If not, I’ll have my assistant do it."

"They’re completed," Huo Qilin answered.

Cheng Bingbing had arrived at the hospital early this morning and managed to get everything done for his discharge. They were just about to leave when Mrs. Huo arrived.

"Let’s go home then," Mrs. Huo put on her sunglasses from her bag and turned to leave.

"Mom, I’m not going home," Huo Qilin, eager to be with Cheng Bingbing and reluctant to return to the Huo family home, said.

"Where else do you plan to go with your injuries?" Mrs. Huo asked, her expression rather unhappy. She then proceeded to issue instructions to her assistant, "Take the young master."

Ignoring Huo Qilin’s objections, she assertively whisked him away.

Beyond the initial incident in which Mrs. Huo slapped Cheng Bingbing and pushed her, she didn’t give Bingbing a second glance. Xia Qingtian was completely ignored as well.

Xia Qingtian knew she was being shunned because she had previously refused Mrs. Huo’s request, which had caused Mrs. Huo to bear a grudge against her.

It was clear that Mrs. Huo was not only difficult to deal with, but also held grudges. If Cheng Bingbing were to marry into the Huo family, she would undoubtedly face a tough time.

Unaware of Xia Qingtian’s thoughts, Cheng Bingbing was anxious to follow Huo Qilin, who was obviously reluctant to leave. Not being able to bear the situation, she immediately tried to catch up.

"Qilin..."

Spotting this, Xia Qingtian grabbed her arm and asked, "Bingbing, where are you going?"

Cheng Bingbing anxiously watched Huo Qilin leave and said hurriedly, "I want to help Qilin. He obviously doesn’t want to go home."

"Don’t go!" Xia Qingtian tried to persuade her. "Mrs. Huo is his mother, if she wants to take her injured son home to recuperate, it’s entirely reasonable. Your opposition wouldn’t do any good."

Having clearly disapproved of Cheng Bingbing previously, Mrs. Huo had even ignored Huo Qilin’s introduction.

If Cheng Bingbing were to impulsively get into a conflict with Mrs. Huo now, she would likely be disliked even more.

Hearing this, Cheng Bingbing was still a bit uneasy.

She looked in the direction in which Huo Qilin and Mrs. Huo had left, they had already vanished from her sight.

She seemed suddenly cast down.

Laying a hand on her shoulder, Xia Qingtian tried to console her, "Don’t overthink it. Qilin is Mrs. Huo’s only child, she won’t harm him. With family and housekeepers at home, he should recover quickly."

"Besides, you’ve been busy shooting lately. Looking after an injured Qilin would’ve been too much. Consider Mrs. Huo as having helped to lighten your load. When Qilin’s health recovers, he wouldn’t have to stay home and he will surely come find you."

Hearing these comforting words, the color returned to Cheng Bingbing’s face.

She nodded and said, "I see, you’re right, Qingtian. I’ve been too stubborn."

It was as if a thought suddenly occurred to her, she looked at Xia Qingtian and asked, "By the way, what are you doing here?"

Xia Qingtian answered, "I knew Qilin was being discharged today. I’ve been less busy lately as I’ve gotten into the swing of things at work. So I thought I’d come see him off."

Cheng Bingbing managed a bitter smile, "I guess there’s no need now."

"No worries, even though Qilin has been taken away, you’re still here, aren’t you?" Xia Qingtian put an arm around her shoulder and asked, "Where are you headed? I can drop you off."

"Back to the studio, I guess," Cheng Bingbing thought about it and said.

She had taken a half day off for Huo Qilin’s hospital discharge today. Now that he was discharged and didn’t need to be placed somewhere by her, she decided to return to filming.

That way, she could wrap things up earlier.
