Chapter 761: Chapter 761 Who is he_1

Cheng Bingbing tried her best to console herself, her emotions finally simmering down a bit.

She hailed a taxi by the roadside, preparing to head home after briefly unloading her burden. The experience of the past few minutes alone had felt more exhausting than a day’s work on set.

Once she settled in the taxi, she closed her eyes to rest.

After goodness knew how long, she didn’t feel as tired. When she opened her eyes to crack open the window for some fresh air, she found herself surrounded by unfamiliar scenery. It was definitely not the route to her home.

Cheng Bingbing’s heart sank. Where was the driver taking her?

Was this a hijacked taxi?

She didn’t dare confront the driver directly, fearing he might lash out unpredictably. She decided to feign obliviousness, secretly reaching into her bag for her mobile phone to call for help.

Just as she took out her phone, the driver, wholly concentrated on his driving as though having eyes in the back of his head, calmly stated, "Ms Cheng, there’s a signal jammer in the car. Your calls won’t go through. You’re wasting your time."

His words startled her so much that her hands began to tremble and she nearly dropped her phone. Luckily, her swift reflexes prevented it from falling.

Despite the driver’s warning, she refused to give up on attempting to rescue herself.

Ignoring him, she tried dialing emergency services. But true to his words, there was no service. His signal jammer rendered even the emergency phone calls useless, which normally would have gone through without a signal.

Cheng Bingbing was truly terrified now. Clueless about her next move, she also noted that the driver addressed her as Ms Cheng, signifying he probably knew her and might have targeted her intentionally.

Was this a kidnapping for ransom or a personal vendetta?

Suppressing her fear, she tried to calm herself down, deciding to subtly probe the mysterious driver for his intentions. By knowing his intent, she could devise a strategy accordingly.

Thinking this, she tentatively asked, "Who are you? What do you want?"

The driver, unresponsive like he hadn’t heard her, remained quiet.

Cheng Bingbing continued, "Do you want money? Name your price. As long as you let me go, I can give you all my savings. I won’t press charges."

Noticing her fright, the driver finally spoke, "Miss Cheng, don’t be afraid. We won’t hurt you. Someone just wants to meet you."

"Who wants to see me?" Cheng Bingbing enquired warily.

She knew well that whosoever wished to meet her wouldn’t have good intentions. They could have just asked her directly instead of resorting to such illicit measures.

The driver evaded her question and merely said, "You will know when you meet them."

For the rest of the journey, the driver remained silent, undeterred by her continued threats and pleas.

Just as Cheng Bingbing’s anxiety reached its peak, unsure of what awaited her, the car finally halted in front of a grand mansion.

The driver parked the car methodically before politely opening her door and respectfully informing her, "Miss Cheng, we’ve arrived. You may get off."

Although she had wanted to get off all this while, she felt even more frightened now. It seemed as if the mansion was teeming with lurking dangers, ready to tear her to shreds.

Seeing her reluctance to alight the car, the driver patiently waited for her, calmly watching her without pressing her.

Feeling restless under his gaze, she knew escaping wouldn’t help. Nobody could assist her in this situation. The only thing she could do now was face the situation.

All she could hope for was they wouldn’t harm her or her unborn child.

Taking a deep breath, Cheng Bingbing finally exited the car.

"Miss Cheng, follow me." The driver led the way into the mansion.

She followed him, and then sneakily took out her phone, hoping that her signal had returned now that she was out of the car, and that she could call for help.

"Miss Cheng, you’re wasting your time," the driver, without turning back, accurately guessed what she was doing, and calmly cautioned her again.

Cheng Bingbing noticed that the driver bore her no malice, so she disregarded him, continued fiddling with her phone, trying to make a call or send a message for help.

However, all her messages to Xia Qingtian and Huo Qilin failed to get delivered, symbolized by a red exclamation mark.

Comprehending the futility of her attempts, she finally gave up, silently praying that the people the driver said wanted to meet her won’t harm her either.

After a while, they finally entered the mansion.

The mansion was extravagantly furnished but was eerily silent, radiating a forlorn aura, vastly different from the lively mansion of Xia Qingtian. It almost felt haunted.

This thought had barely entered her mind when she shivered at the prospect of meeting the mastermind who had dragged her here against her will.

Cheng Bingbing was lost in thought when she suddenly heard footsteps.

Without chance to react, she saw the driver standing before her, bowing his head respectfully, "Young Master, I have brought the person you requested."

Realizing that the mastermind had arrived, Cheng Bingbing’s heart pounded anxiously.

However, regardless of her fear, she had no choice but to face him.

Even if the person intended to harm her, she would rather face it courageously. Even if she had to die, she wanted to see her assailant’s face.

With these thoughts, she steeled herself, lifted her head to face the direction of the footsteps.

The sight of the man’s handsome, scholarly face left her frozen in shock.

Why was it him?

The man before her was the very same gentleman who helped her when she accidentally bumped into him while shopping for Huo Qilin’s clothes and had almost fallen.

It took Cheng Bingbing a long while to recover from her shock and muster the courage to enquire, "Who are you? Why did you bring me here?"

By now, the man had descended the stairs and stood beside her.

Instinctively, Cheng Bingbing took a step back, increasing the distance between them. Although the man appeared scholarly and gentle, he emanated an aura of dominance and aggression that didn’t fit with his persona.

"I thought you’d know!" The man adjusted his glasses, a playful look in his eyes as he watched her.
