Chapter 724: Chapter 724 Understanding Her Difficulties_1

Looking into Xia Qingtian’s sincere eyes and hearing her powerful encouragement, Cheng Bingbing felt a surge of strength and warmth fill her body.

She tugged at the corners of her mouth and said, "Alright, I won’t belittle myself in the future."

"That’s the spirit!" Xia Qingtian nodded in approval.

As they continued talking, the speed of the car gradually slowed down.

Xia Qingtian looked out the window and noticed the scenery outside becoming more and more desolate.

It seemed they had left the bustling city center and were now in a more remote suburb. She wondered where Cheng Bingbing was taking her.

Cheng Bingbing glanced out the window as well, assuring a possibly anxious Xia Qingtian, "We’ll be there soon."

"Alright." Xia Qingtian was not in a hurry, hearing her assurance, she just nodded.

As predicted, the car stopped shortly after.

Stepping out the car, Xia Qingtian discovered that Cheng Bingbing had brought her to a rather dilapidated nursing home.

Unable to resist asking, she asked, "What are we doing here?"

"You’ll see." replied Cheng Bingbing as she headed into the nursing home.

Xia Qingtian immediately followed.

Inside the nursing home, she saw many elderly people sunbathing in the courtyard. They greeted Cheng Bingbing with familiarity, clearly used to her visits.

It was evident, Cheng Bingbing had frequented this place before.

After returning the greetings, Cheng Bingbing went to help clean the rooms while explaining, "This nursing home is understaffed and secluded, hence I sometimes come here as a volunteer."

"I never heard you mention this before." Xia Qingtian silently assisted her with the cleaning.

Cheng Bingbing replied calmly, "I haven’t done much, just contributed a little. There was no need to mention it."

With that, she began sharing more about herself.

Her childhood wasn’t particularly difficult. Although her parents favored male children, her grandmother always treated her well, often sneakily saving delicious food for her.

She had a great relationship with her grandmother and vowed to make money to support her in the future.

Unfortunately, before she could grow up and make money, her grandmother passed away due to illness.

Feeling guilty, she decided to volunteer at various nursing homes after leaving her hometown. This particular one, being the most secluded and needing the most help, was the one she visited the most.

Gradually, she developed a bond with the elderly here.

Hearing all this and looking at the elderly here, Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but think of Grandpa Bo and her heart filled with sadness.

She sighed, paused her work, and asked in puzzlement, "What does this have to do with you rejecting Qilin? He wouldn’t stop you from volunteering... He could even accompany and support you."

Cheng Bingbing didn’t answer her question but simply looked at her wristwatch, noting that it was almost time.

With only a little cleaning left in the rooms, she quickened her pace.

Suddenly, cheerful children’s voices could be heard from outside.

Having finished her tasks, Cheng Bingbing put down her cleaning tools and pulled Xia Qingtian to wash their hands. Meanwhile, she said, "You’ll know why I rejected Huo Qilin in a moment."

Xia Qingtian raised her eyebrows in surprise.

Since Cheng Bingbing had already said so, she decided not to press the issue any further.

The two of them quickly washed their hands and headed towards the courtyard.

There they saw a little girl with a backpack, speaking enthusiastically to the elders who watched her fondly.

Hearing footsteps behind her, the girl turned and her eyes lit up at the sight of Cheng Bingbing.

"Sister Bingbing..." she squealed with delight and ran towards Cheng Bingbing.

Fearing she might bump into Cheng Bingbing’s stomach, Xia Qingtian instinctively moved to stand in front of her to protect her.

Turned out, Xia Qingtian had overreacted.

The little girl stopped dead in her tracks once she was in front of Cheng Bingbing without launching herself at her.

"Miaomiao, Good girl..." Cheng Bingbing said gently as she squatted down to pat Miaomiao’s head. "Did you listen to your teacher at school today?"

"Yes, Miaomiao has been a good girl." Miaomiao obediently nodded her head.

"That’s fantastic." Cheng Bingbing praised, then pulled out a piece of chocolate from her bag and handed it to her. "This is a reward from Sister Bingbing."

Miaomiao wiped her hands on her clothes before carefully accepting the chocolate. She swallowed heavily, signaling her desire to eat it.

Still, she didn’t immediately unwrap the chocolate. Instead, she politely thanked Cheng Bingbing, "Thank you, Sister Bingbing."

Then, holding the chocolate, she happily ran back to an elderly woman, unwrapped the chocolate, and urged, "Grandma, eat it. It’s delicious."

"Grandma doesn’t like it, you eat, Miaomiao." Grandma shook her head.

Just a moment ago, Miaomiao was obedient, but she became suddenly stubborn. She shook her head, "Grandma is lying, she wants to save the good stuff for Miaomiao. Miaomiao knows that. If Grandma doesn’t eat, Miaomiao won’t either."

Feeling helpless, Grandma took a small bite and said, "Alright, Grandma has taken a bite. You can eat the rest, Miaomiao."

In reality, She had barely eaten any, it was more of a symbolic gesture.

Miaomiao, being so young, didn’t comprehend this veiled kindness. Seeing that her Grandma had eaten, she happily started to eat the chocolate herself.

Witnessing this scene, Xia Qingtian smiled involuntarily.

"Sister Qingtian, isn’t Miaomiao a good girl?" Cheng Bingbing asked, watching Miaomiao.

"Yes, she is." Xia Qingtian nodded in agreement.

"Do you know why Miaomiao is here at the nursing home?" Cheng Bingbing asked again.

Xia Qingtian responded matter-of-factly, "Of course, she’s here to visit her grandmother."

A hint of mockery appeared on Cheng Bingbing’s face as she corrected, "That’s not it. Miaomiao’s father died in an accident. She lived with her mother afterward. Her mother remarried soon, but her stepfather didn’t welcome her. Fortunately, at the start, her mother protected her. However, when her mother gave birth to a second child, all her love went to the new child and there was no room for Miaomiao. She was then left with her grandmother in the nursing home."
