Just as Xia Qingtian was caught in a dilemma, the car window was suddenly slapped hard.

The abrupt sound startled her into a shiver.

Before she had time to discern if it was a person or a phantom that had just knocked on her window, a slightly distorted, yet familiar voice emerged.

"Qingtian, are you okay? Did anything happen to you?"

A flicker of confusion passed through Xia Qingtian’s eyes. This voice... why did it sound so much like...

Bo Jingyan?

With that thought, she instinctively rolled her window down. And borrowing the dim light from inside the car, she saw a face that was so perfect it seemed like it was created by a divine hand.

"Bo Jingyan, you... ah..." Xia Qingtian was about to ask why he appeared unexpectedly.

But before she could finish speaking, she saw Bo Jingyan’s hand reach into the car from the window, opened the door, and then pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.

Bo Jingyan was holding her so tightly that she felt like she was about to suffocate.

Xia Qingtian poked his soaked chest to remind him, "If there’s something to discuss, please let go of me first!"

Bo Jingyan, as if too absorbed to hear, kept holding her.

Moreover, his whole body was shaking. She didn’t know if it was because of the cold or another reason.

Xia Qingtian, worried for Cheng Bingbing’s safety, chose not to pursue the matter.

"Bo Jingyan, stop messing around, I really have an urgent matter, I can’t be delayed!" she said, her tone carrying a hint of severity.

Bo Jingyan sighed, then slowly released her.

He looked Xia Qingtian up and down, his voice tinged with anxiety, "Are you hurt?"

"No." Xia Qingtian knew he was worried about her. Even though she was in a hurry, she answered truthfully, "I hit the brakes in time; I didn’t crash into the guardrail."

Hearing this, Bo Jingyan didn’t take her word for it. Instead, he examined her himself, ensuring that she was indeed unhurt before he was able to relax.

A relieved tone filled his voice as he asked, "Where are you heading at this late hour?"

Seeing him still standing in the rain, Xia Qingtian quickly pulled him into the car and fetched a towel from the car to hand to him, "Please dry yourself off first."

Bo Jingyan took the towel and began to rub down his wet figure.

Xia Qingtian took out her mobile phone, ready to call for a tow truck, then call someone to pick her up.

After making several phone calls, any possible tow service was either closed, the drivers refusing the job due to the excessive distance, or because the heavy rainfall was too hazardous to drive in, unwilling to risk it.

Even when Xia Qingtian offered to triple the amount, no one was willing to provide the tow service.

When she tried to get hold of her driver, he also couldn’t come for a series of reasons. It felt as if everything was going against her that night.

She was so frustrated, she was on the verge of hurling her phone out of the car window.

Bo Jingyan, having wiped off all the water from his face and hair, offered, "Where do you need to go? I can drive you there."

On hearing these words, Xia Qingtian’s eyes lit up.

"Do you have a car?" she asked excitedly, turning to look at Bo Jingyan.

Bo Jingyan couldn’t help but chuckle. "How else would I have gotten here? Did you think I walked?"

Xia Qingtian didn’t respond.

Towards Bo Jingyan, she didn’t need to stand on ceremony. She directly asked him if he could be her temporary chauffeur and take her to a particular destination.

"Okay." Without asking where she wanted to go or what she wanted to do, Bo Jingyan agreed on the spot. "My car is not far from here. I’ll go get it."

With these words, he exited the car.

No sooner had he dried his face and hair when they were drenched again by the downpour.

Xia Qingtian was about to follow him out of the car without a second thought, only to be stopped as soon as she moved her foot to step out. "Stay in the car and don’t move. I’ll drive my car here, then you can get out."

"Why?" Xia Qingtian queried, perplexed.

She didn’t understand why Bo Jingyan made this unnecessary move. If they went together, it would be more economical and save time.

Bo Jingyan earnestly answered her question, "Because the rain outside is too heavy. I don’t want you to get wet and risk getting sick."

"What about you?" Xia Qingtian followed up.

If Bo Jingyan was worried about her getting wet and falling sick, what about himself?

"To be able to get wet and fall ill in order to protect you is fortunate for me. Thankfully, it’s me who’s suffering, not you!" Bo Jingyan said with a smile. "Stay in the car. I’ll be back soon."

Watching his figure disappear into the sheet of rain, Xia Qingtian’s throat tightened. Her heart was filled with a bittersweet feeling.

She understood Bo Jingyan’s underlying intentions. Even though she didn’t think she would fall ill because of a bit of rain, she didn’t deliberately defy him. Since he cared about her, she decided to accept his concern.

After a while, a car pulled up next to hers.

Bo Jingyan took off his jacket, wrung out the water, then, holding it above him, got out of the car and came to her side.

He held the jacket over Xia Qingtian’s head and instructed, "Okay, get out."

Under his protection, Xia Qingtian smoothly transitioned from one car to another. After settling in the other car, she found that her clothes were completely dry, not a drop of rain on her.

In contrast, Bo Jingyan, at that moment, looked like he had been fished out of water, completely drenched.

Paying no heed to his own condition, he anxiously asked Xia Qingtian, "How are you? Did you get wet? Are you cold?"

Seeing his concern for her, Xia Qingtian’s eyes welled up.

She shook her head, unable to stop herself from reaching out and wiping the water off Bo Jingyan’s face. She advised him, "No, I didn’t get wet. I’m not cold. Take care of yourself first."

"I’ll be fine. I’ll dry off shortly." Bo Jingyan disregarded his own state, produced a tissue, and took her hand to dry the water off, then asked, "Where do you want to go?"

Despite Xia Qingtian’s claims of not being cold, given the heavy rain that night, as he spoke, he adjusted the temperature inside the car a little higher.

Xia Qingtian looked around and found no towels or spare clothes in the car. Though she was concerned that Bo Jingyan might catch a cold from wearing his wet clothes, there wasn’t much to be done.

Presently, all she could do was let Bo Jingyan take her to her destination and then find a way to get him dry clothes to change into.

With that thought, she didn’t delay any longer, giving him the address of the staff dormitory prepared for her company’s artists.

Bo Jingyan activated the GPS and started the car.

Just as the car started and had hardly covered any distance, a brilliant flash of lightning illuminated her sight and was immediately followed by a deafening roll of thunder.
