Chapter 653: Chapter 653: Sell Her_1
"You ..." Cheng’s father clenched his fists again, fuming with anger.
Cheng’s mother stopped him, "Dear, let’s stay calm, take our time to talk this out."
Cheng’s father glared at her, "She doesn’t want to drink, then..."
He let his words hang in silence, confidently assuming that Cheng’s mother understood.
Sure enough, Cheng’s mother nodded in agreement, "I understand, we’ll find another way."
Cheng’s father grudgingly swallowed his anger and stared at Bingbing, "Fine, you don’t want to drink, we’ll let it pass."
He then drained the glass he had initially poured for Bingbing.
Bingbing eyed her parents suspiciously, sensing their odd behavior was suggesting a hidden agenda.
Whenever she got her father angry in the past, her mother would never intervene, often even handing her father a tree branch, or a feather duster to hit her with.
Yet, she unexpectedly stopped him twice this evening!
Bingbing’s mother, unaware that her actions had stirred Bingbing’s suspicion, rose to her feet, "You two take your time eating, I’m going to use the restroom."
Wanting to avoid being alone with her father, and worried about her mother wrongdoings, Bingbing offered, "I’ll go with you."
Her mother reacted anxiously, "No need! Stay here with your father. I can go alone."
Without waiting for Bingbing’s response, she dashed off as if something terrifying was chasing after her.
Bingbing watched her disappearing figure, feeling more suspicious.
Once she left the restaurant, Cheng’s mother sneakily looked back, and upon realizing that Bingbing didn’t follow, she breathed a sigh of relief. She then took out her phone and made a call.
After a few quiet words with the person on the other line, she returned to the restaurant contented.
As soon as she sat down, a glass of juice was served to Bingbing.
Bingbing frowned in confusion, "I didn’t order juice."
Without skipping a beat, Bingbing’s mother chimed in, "I ordered it for you. Your father wants to share a drink with you. Let’s not spoil his mood. If you can’t drink alcohol, then have some juice."
Bingbing’s eyebrows creased deeper, "You two really want me to have a drink, don’t you?"
A flicker of panic shone in Cheng’s mother’s eyes.
"What, am I wrong for ordering juice for you?" Cheng father laughed it off, playfully berating Bingbing.
Bingbing stayed quiet. She had an uneasy feeling and instinctively rejected the juice, "I’m a performer, I need to maintain my figure. I’ve given up sugar. I only drink plain water."
Without waiting for a response, she asked a waiter to serve her a glass of water.
"Dad, didn’t you ask me to drink with you? Here, I’ll drink water in place of alcohol." She downed the entire glass of water and turned the cup upside down, "Are you satisfied?"
Cheng’s parents were momentarily lost for words with clear frustration on their faces.
Bingbing suspected them of some ill intent due to their odd behavior. Rather than wasting her time scheming with them, she’d prefer to accompany Qilin and enjoy her ice cream.
With this in mind, she announced, "I have some things to do tonight. I need to leave early. I’ve already paid the bill; you two can take your time eating."
She picked up her bag as she prepared to stand up and leave.
"You can’t leave!" Cheng’s mother quickly grasped her bag.
"Why not?" Bingbing asked.
Startled by the sudden turn of events, Cheng’s mother accidentally blurted out, "We’ve already sold you to Mr. Zhou! You can’t leave!"
"What do you mean?" Bingbing could understand each individual word, yet she found the entire sentence confusing.
Cheng’s father narrowed his eyes at his wife.
Seeing as how the cat was already out of the bag, he decided to disclose the truth, "A few days ago we went looking for you at your workplace. There, we met Mr. Zhou. When he learned that we were your parents, he treated us lavishly. He professed his fondness for you and promised to fulfill anything we could ask. All he wanted was you in return."
Stunned, Bingbing took a few steps back.
In shock, she exclaimed, "How could you do this to me?"
Cheng’s father nonchalantly responded, "Why wouldn’t we? We gave you life, so you should do whatever we say. Mr. Zhou is rich and he likes you. It’s your good luck that he is interested in you. You need to serve him well."
Bingbing cut off the last strand of emotional bonds she had for her conniving parents due to this episode.
"Even if you are my parents, that does not give you ownership over my life or destiny. I didn’t agree to this. If anyone needs to serve him, you both should do it yourselves." Throwing them a cold look, she turned to leave.
She had no interest in participating in their clownish antics any longer.
However, after only a few steps, she felt weak and collapsed. She couldn’t stand, and the room seemed to be spinning.
"What have you done to me?" gasped Bingbing, glowering at her parents.
Exchanging startled glances, they both looked as bewildered as her.
They soon found their answer.
Zhou Lu appeared out of nowhere, propping up Bingbing, who had gone completely limp.
"Mr. Zhou, what is...," Cheng’s father gestured towards Bingbing, lost for words.
Zhou Lu replied, "Nothing much. I just thought Bingbing was too clever to be fooled by you, so I arranged a backup plan and had another glass of water prepared for her."
Everyone present understood then. The glass of water Bingbing had drunk was tainted.
The alcohol Cheng’s parents tried to impose on Bingbing was merely a distraction.
Cheng’s father, who had been bossing Bingbing around earlier, looked nervously at Zhou Lu and complimented him awkwardly, "Mr. Zhou is really smart. No wonder he’s successful in his business."
Ignoring Cheng’s father’s flattery, Zhou turned to the pressing matter at hand. He said, "Uncle and auntie, you can leave Bingbing to me. I’ll take good care of her. Here is what I promised you before."
He handed them a cheque, reiterating the agreement."
Cheng’s parents greedily took the cheque from Zhou’s hand.
Seeing a higher figure than they initially expected, they smiled happily at Zhou Lu and reassured him, "Alright, Mr. Zhou. We’ll leave our daughter to you. Do whatever you please."
Having said that, they left cheerfully, clutching the cheque tightly.
