Chapter 605: Chapter 605: She Cried Because of Him _1
Upon reaching the ground floor, Xia Qingtian caught a whiff of a strange smell emanating from the kitchen.
Curious, she walked into the kitchen to investigate.
Soon, she realized where the strange smell was coming from.
She spotted several bowls of congee dumped in the trash can. It looked similar to what she had just eaten, but the taste was worlds apart. The housemaid was currently cleaning up the mess.
"What’s this in the trash?" Xia Qingtian asked almost reflexively.
Recognizing her, the maid answered truthfully, "This was the result of Master’s experiment."
Although the people in the mansion knew about the divorce between Bo Jingyan and Xia Qingtian, they continued to address him as the young master and her as the young lady.
As Bo Jingyan seldom came home and it had no bearing on Xia Qingtian, she did not insist on the servants changing their form of address.
After hearing the maid’s response, Xia Qingtian realized something.
"Experiments?" she asked, her voice tense.
"When the young master came home and found out you were sick and hadn’t eaten all day, he decided to cook some porridge for you. But as he was afraid his culinary skills weren’t up to par, he sought advice from a chef."
"He cooked several pots of porridge. If it wasn’t burnt, it was either underdone and the rice was still hard, or it was too salty. He spent the whole morning bustling around in the kitchen. After so much effort, he finally managed to cook a bowl of porridge he was satisfied with. In the process of cooking, he even burnt his hand in several places."
"Burns?" Xia Qingtian’s heart trembled.
"Yes, right on his wrist. The skin turned red from the burn," the maid told her. "Uncle Wang advised the young master to attend to his burns but he didn’t want to waste time, fearing you would be hungry once you woke up."
Xia Qingtian felt her eyes turning moist.
What a fool Bo Jingyan was. How could treating a burn be considered a waste of time?
When she was with Bo Jingyan earlier, she had kept her gaze focused on him, careful not to let her eyes wander in case they betrayed the love and longing deep in her heart. Therefore, she failed to take note of his burn.
If she had seen it, she would have tended to the burns without hesitation.
Now, she felt a hint of regret. She shouldn’t have lost her temper and driven him away.
"Young madam, the young master is really good to you," declared the maid after a sigh. She couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you and the young master divorce?"
Xia Qingtian was at a loss for an answer.
The ones in love do not always end up together. There were too many barriers between them.
Receiving no answer from Xia Qingtian, the maid wasn’t offended but suddenly asked, "Young madam, did you get to eat the porridge the young master brought up? How was it?"
"Mmm, it was delicious," Xia Qingtian replied, her sentiments mixed. "That was the best porridge I’ve ever tasted in my life."
Because that bowl of porridge embodied Bo Jingyan’s heartfelt intentions.
Hearing her response, the maid unconsciously gulped, imagining how the best tasting porridge would taste like.
Xia Qingtian didn’t chat with the maid for long as another maid came in to report that the big star Cheng Bingbing had arrived.
She immediately repressed her emotions and couldn’t help but laugh a little at the maid’s description.
It seemed Cheng Bingbing was quite famous. Even the housemaids at her own home recognized her.
"Then bring her in," she instructed before exiting the kitchen.
Soon, under the guidance of the maid, Cheng Bingbing made her way into the living room and successfully met Xia Qingtian. The maid, observing social cues, started serving tea and fruits.
This was Cheng Bingbing’s first visit to Xia Qingtian’s house, and she was still a little nervous.
Xia Qingtian directly took her hand and made her sit next to herself, asking, "Why did you come here? Is there a problem with the crew?"
Could it be that Director Zhao’s crew was still facing financial problems caused by Zhu Wei, which was affecting Cheng Bingbing?
If that was truly the case, she was not overly worried, as once she handled Zhu Wei, all problems would be taken care of.
"No," Cheng Bingbing seemed to struggle to speak.
Seeing her like this, Xia Qingtian found it peculiar.
All the troubles Cheng Bingbing had faced, they had resolved together. She had seen Cheng Bingbing in her most desolate, distressed, and downcast moments. So, what could possibly be harder for Cheng Bingbing to bring up in front of her?
"What’s actually wrong?" she probed, "What is it that you can’t tell me?"
Cheng Bingbing was a lot stronger than before. Previously, she would hide and cry when faced with problems, but now her initial reaction to troubles and difficulties was to look for a solution.
When she could not solve the issues herself, she would seek help from others.
And Xia Qingtian was the person she trusted the most.
Her first instinct was to find Xia Qingtian.
Even though it was tough and embarrassing, she gritted her teeth and said, "It relates to my parents; they...."
Before she could finish her sentence, a butler-like old man led a doctor carrying a medical box into the room.
Xia Qingtian called out, "Uncle Wang, this is...."
Hadn’t the doctor already left? Why was he back?
Uncle Wang replied, "Young madam, the doctor is back to check on you, to see if your fever has gone down."
Upon hearing this, Xia Qingtian had no choice but to comply.
The doctor took out a thermometer and measured her temperature, "38 degrees. How come your temperature went up again? Weren’t you fever-free when I left?"
A hint of guilt flashed across Xia Qingtian’s eyes.
She guessed why she had become feverish again. It probably had to do with her taking a shower because she felt sticky from the sweat.
Since she was still ill, she technically shouldn’t have bathed. If she felt uncomfortable, she could’ve just wiped her body with a warm towel.
But she couldn’t resist and took a bath.
"I....," Xia Qingtian touched her nose and replied innocently, "I really don’t know."
Thankfully, the doctor hadn’t intended to probe further.
"Your fever isn’t severe. I won’t give you an injection. Take some antipyretics first. If your fever hasn’t come down by night, call me and I’ll come around to give you an injection."
Uncle Wang immediately responded, "Alright, doctor, we understand."
The doctor took out fever reducers from his medical bag and gave them to Uncle Wang. He instructed him on how to take the medicine and what to avoid.
After prescribing the medicine, the doctor got ready to leave.
However, Xia Qingtian seemed to recall something and asked, "Doctor, do you have any burn ointment?"
Upon hearing this, Uncle Wang became anxious and asked with concern, "Young madam, why do you need burn ointment? Did someplace get burnt?"
