Chapter 583: Chapter 583 She Lied_1

If it hadn’t been for Cheng Bingbing’s rational judgement to forcefully drag him out of the maternity store, he probably would have cleaned out the entire shop.

After stepping out of the maternity store, she proposed, "Let’s stop shopping. How about we watch a movie instead?"

She was genuinely afraid to let Huo Qilin continue shopping; her heart couldn’t take it anymore.

Huo Qilin didn’t buy anything, and was somewhat discontented.

"Putting everything else aside, the things I took a fancy to, I have to buy them." He kept glancing at the maternity store.

Cheng Bingbing helplessly said to him, "I’m still living in the company dormitory, I don’t own any house. If you buy everything you liked just now, I might not even have anywhere to live."

"You don’t own a house?" Huo Qilin asked, surprised.

"Yes." Cheng Bingbing nodded.

"Have you not qualified for the housing purchase?" Huo Qilin asked her puzzled.

Cheng Bingbing answered, "No."

"Then, are you short of money?" Huo Qilin became more curious, "You are the best supporting actress at the China Film Awards, you have signed so many events and endorsements before. You and your company share a fifty-fifty split, you should have earned enough to buy a decent house."

Cheng Bingbing lowered her eyes and lied, "I haven’t found one that I like."

In reality, it’s not that she couldn’t find a house to her liking. As someone who was longing for love and desired to have a home of her own, she didn’t demand much from a house.

As long as it’s a small place that belongs to her, she would be satisfied.

However, the money she had was not enough to buy her own house in a first-tier city like A City.

She was afraid that Huo Qilin would look down on her, so she chose to hide it.

"I see, I’ll keep an eye out for you in the future." Huo Qilin did not suspect her words, took her lie as the truth, and even took it seriously.

Since Cheng Bingbing didn’t have a house of her own, he could only give up for now. He’d buy these things after she had a house.

Afterwards, the two went to a cinema to watch a movie.

They chose a popular popcorn movie, although it wasn’t very profound, it was good for passing time.

However, during the movie, Cheng Bingbing’s phone kept ringing.

Cheng Bingbing put her phone on silent, ignoring all calls.

"Who’s calling? Are you not going to answer?" Huo Qilin turned to gaze at her, questioning curiously.

Cheng Bingbing pursed her lips, the dim light in the cinema concealed her gloomy eyes, she casually said, "Don’t need to answer, it’s a prank call."

"Then you should block this number." Huo Qilin suggested.

"Okay." Cheng Bingbing agreed, but she didn’t do it.

Soon, the movie reached its climax.

Cheng Bingbing’s phone lit up again, but this time it was a message, not a call.

Upon seeing the message, her body stiffened all of a sudden.

Luckily, Huo Qilin was completely engrossed in the movie and didn’t notice.

She took a deep breath, took a moment to compose herself until her face wasn’t so pale, then she turned to Huo Qilin and said, "You keep watching, I need to go to the restroom."

"Do you need me to come with you?" Huo Qilin kindly asked her.

"No need." Cheng Bingbing shook her head and refused, "I am not a child, I don’t need someone to accompany me to the restroom."

Huo Qilin didn’t insist, "Alright, just be back soon."

Cheng Bingbing held her phone tightly and left the projection hall.

Once out, she didn’t head for the restroom but instead went to a quiet emergency exit and dialed the number that she had been getting calls from during the movie.

The phone only rang once before being answered.

"Mom..." Cheng Bingbing called out in a somewhat restrained manner.

"Where the hell were you just now? Why didn’t you answer when I called?" A harsh scolding came from the other end of the line.

A look of pain appeared on Cheng Bingbing’s face.

This person on the other end of the line, showing no care, only indifference and resentment towards her, was her mother.

"I was working just now and couldn’t pick up the phone..." she feigned a simple excuse.

"What kind of work? I think you are deliberately avoiding calls from home." Her mother bellowed angrily, "Otherwise, why did you call as soon as I sent you a message saying that I’ll expose you for being unfilial if you don’t answer?"

Every time Cheng Bingbing received a call from home, she felt extremely drained.

Not wanting to continue bickering on this subject, she changed the topic and asked, "Mom, did you need something from me?"

Upon addressing the actual issue, her mother no longer felt like chastising her daughter further.

"Your brother is getting married now, you need to send more money home." She said confidently.

Hearing this, Cheng Bingbing frowned, "Mom, I’ve recently given you all my income from the films, endorsements, and commercial events, almost reaching eight figures."

"Even in a small 4th or 5th-tier county like yours, that amount isn’t just enough to get a wife and a house for my brother, he could even live comfortably for the rest of his life even if he suffers a physical disability."

All the money she had earned previously was all taken away by her mother and father.

"Your brother lost all the money you gave in a failed business venture." Her mother said unburdened.

Although it was a substantial amount of money they could not attain even if their whole family didn’t eat, sleep, and worked non-stop their entire lives, who could have thought her daughter would become a successful movie star?

A female movie star makes lots of money. Even if they had lost a lot, they could earn it back.

"Have you and dad gone crazy?" Cheng Bingbing snapped, raising her voice, "You actually used that money, so much money, to let a person who has barely been to school and has never really worked a proper job, start a business? Does he even know how to run one?"

"Who knows how to run a business right from birth? Don’t we all learn slowly?" Her mother, favoring her son unconditionally, carelessly gushed.

She acted as if spending millions on a business was negligible.

Even for Cheng Bingbing, who was accustomed to the parental bias for sons, found this utterly absurd.

Her mother, whom she just bombarded with plenty of questions, was already impatient and urged, "In short, you need to send another three million, two million for buying the house and the remaining million for the bride price of your future sister-in-law."

"A million for the bride price? That much?" Cheng Bingbing exclaimed in surprise.

Even in A City, common families wouldn’t give a million for a bride price.

"What do you know? Your brother’s girlfriend is a cultured university student, the grandchild she gives birth to will definitely be smart." Her mother said happily.
