Chapter 577: Chapter 577 - He Got Off Cheaply_1
"Qingtian, it’s okay. Being pregnant doesn’t mean I can’t go to the bar, I just can’t drink," Cheng Bingbing seriously told Xia Qingtian. "At most, I’ll stick with you and you can drink on my behalf," she added.
Xia Qingtian was somewhat concerned considering Bingbing’s pregnancy.
However, Bingbing gave her no chance to retort, being unexpectedly assertive for once.
"Alright then, it’s settled," Bingbing stated as she got up, "You carry on with work, I won’t disturb you. I’ll accompany you to the bar tonight."
"Don’t plan on ditching me. If you don’t invite me, I’ll look for you in every bar. If you are really comfortable with that, then better not call me."
After saying this, she put down her cup, preparing to leave Xia Qingtian’s office.
Xia Qingtian shook her head, amused yet bemused.
She didn’t expect Bingbing to be so shamelessly persistent, but she found it surprisingly adorable. The lightheartedness seemed to make her appear more human, a demeanor fitting her age.
Xia Qingtian felt helpless about Bingbing’s antics.
She decided that that night she would keep a close watch on Bingbing to ensure she didn’t touch a drop of alcohol.
As she reached this resolution, her mind was at peace again. She was about to get back to reviewing work files when the office door was knocked.
She looked up, only to see Bingbing who had left but was back again.
"What, have you finally come around? Recognized that a pregnant woman shouldn’t go to a bar?" Qingtian asked playfully, with a smile in her eyes.
"No..." Bingbing blushed, looking somewhat embarrassed, "I was wondering if Huo Qilin will be coming to the company today."
"Oh..." Qingtian replied, hiding a smirk, "So you came to work to look for Huo Qilin."
The mention of Huo Qilin’s name sent Bingbing’s face a shade of deep red, "A couple of days back, he brought me flowers and food on the set. Since I have time now, I’d like to thank him by treating him to dinner."
"That’s unfortunate. Qilin had a business performance today. His assistant has also left and I’m not sure when he will be back. Maybe you can call him?" Qingtian suggested sympathetically.
Bingbing shook her head.
"Forget it, I don’t want to disturb him at work," she declined gently, "I have all the time in the world; this doesn’t need to be rushed."
Seeing Bingbing so considerate, Qingtian couldn’t resist a tease.
"Bingbing, you’re really thoughtful. If you end up with Qilin, boy, would he be a lucky chap."
At Qingtian’s words, the blush drained from Bingbing’s face, leaving it pale.
Noticing Bingbing’s sudden pallor, Qingtian worried she was feeling unwell.
"What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?" Qingtian asked anxiously.
"No, I’m okay," Bingbing reassured, shaking her head, "Can we please not bring this up again? He and I being together is impossible."
"Why?" Qingtian asked puzzled, "Don’t you like him?"
Bingbing’s reply was laced with self-doubt, "In my current condition, I can’t like anyone. I only want to have this child alone and raise the child alone. I can’t think about anything else."
Even if Shi Qian hadn’t betrayed her trust, causing her to lose her innocence, the thought of being with Huo Qilin felt far-fetched.
Even more so now, since she was uncertain about who she had lost her virginity to.
Earlier, before she became pregnant, she could convince herself that it had merely been a nightmare, minimize it to something as insignificant as being bitten by a dog.
But now, being pregnant and planning to have the child, she couldn’t possibly match Qilin.
Seeing the self-deprecation in Bingbing’s expression, Qingtian wanted to console her. She knew, however, such issues couldn’t be overcome overnight.
Only by growing stronger would she gain more confidence. Qingtian agreed, "Alright, we won’t talk about it."
Only after hearing her reassurance did Bingbing’s face ease a bit.
"Qingtian, you get back to your work. I’ll wait for you after work," she said, before turning and leaving.
This time, she didn’t return.
Moving on, Xia Qingtian forced herself to forget that she and Bo Jingyan had divorced, as well as the issues between Bingbing and Qilin. She immersed herself in work.
Without realizing, work hours were over.
Xia Qingtian prepared to go to the bar.
Remembering Bingbing’s threat from earlier, she decided to take Bingbing with her, however she couldn’t find her anywhere in the office.
As Xia Qingtian pulled out her phone to call Bingbing, it rang. The caller ID displayed Bingbing’s name.
She immediately picked up, "Bingbing, I’m off work, where are you?"
"Sorry, Qingtian. The director just called, there’s a journalist coming for an interview and he wanted me to drop by," Bingbing said apologetically, "But I don’t think I’ll be long. You head to the bar first, text me the location, and I’ll come to find you as soon as I’m done."
"Actually, I can go by myself," Qingtian replied.
"No way," Bingbing’s tone was firm. "I won’t feel at ease. Anyway, I’ll come over as soon as I’m done."
Xia Qingtian, unable to convince Bingbing otherwise, relented.
"Alright then, I got it."
After giving Qingtian some advice, Bingbing ended the call.
Considering that Bingbing, being pregnant, couldn’t go to shady places, Qingtian chose a high-end, tranquil bar.
Upon arriving, she booked a private room and ordered a few bottles of good wine.
As the saying goes, ’wine does not intoxicate, people do.’
Qingtian barely had a couple of drinks before feeling lightheaded. She thought of Bingbing’s imminent arrival and decided to rest in the room for a while.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when she suddenly felt a warm sensation on her cheek.
In her groggy state, she opened her eyes and seeing a figure standing in front of her, she mistook it for Bingbing.
"Bingbing, you’re here?" she said, reaching out her hand.
The person standing in front of her sighed, "How much did you drink? You can’t even tell men from women now!"
Knowning that the person was not Bingbing, Qingtian rubbed her eyes, trying hard to recognize the figure.
After a while, she finally recognized that the person in front of her was not Bingbing at all. It was—
"Are you Huo Qilin?" she hiccupped.
Huo Qilin bent down, patting her head in relief, "Not bad, at least you’re not drunk enough to not recognize people."
Qingtian slapped his hand away, "I’m not drunk!"
Obviously, Huo Qilin wouldn’t bicker with a drunk person, "Fine, fine, you’re not drunk. But you must work tomorrow and the more you drink, the more it will affect your work. Would you like to go home with me?"
