Chapter 571: Chapter 571 Deserving Better_1

Once the elevator arrived, they both stepped inside.

Xia Qingtian pressed the button for their office floor and asked, "What were you saying just now? I didn’t catch it."

When Huo Qilin was speaking earlier, the bustle of the elevator drowned out his voice, particularly when Jiang Chen greeted them enthusiastically.

As such, she didn’t hear what Huo Qilin had said.

"No big deal..." Huo Qilin started, "I was simply telling you not to lose hope. The one for you is bound to show up someday."

Once he finished speaking, he could feel his heart racing slightly.

He had nearly confessed his feelings to Xia Qingtian a moment ago.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, but he felt it was a little disrespectful to confess so casually to Xia Qingtian—especially without flowers or a gift. She deserved better.

So, he decided to prepare something before confessing his feelings to her.

"Hmm." Xia Qingtian felt slightly relieved upon hearing his explanation.

Her relationship with Huo Qilin could remain professional or friendly, but it could never veer into ambiguity.

If possible, she didn’t want their feelings for each other to change.

Jiang Chen, hearing their cryptic conversation, gathered his courage and curiously asked, "Sister Qingtian, Brother Qilin, what are you guys talking about?"

There were things Xia Qingtian could discuss with Cheng Bingbing or Huo Qilin that she wouldn’t mention to anyone else.

After all, her relationship with them had reached a certain point. They had been with her from her early days as a manager, forming extraordinary bonds with her.

No matter how talented a future artist might be, they would never be able to surpass these two in terms of emotional bond.

So, Xia Qingtian brushed it off lightly saying, "Nothing much, we were discussing a promising project we just picked up."

The evasiveness in her reply was obvious, but Jiang Chen, naive as he was, fell for it. His eyes lit up as he asked, "Sister Qingtian, what kind of project is it? Do I have a chance to get involved in it?"

"We’re still in early discussions about the project. If there’s a chance, I’ll definitely bring you along," Xia Qingtian replied off-hand.

Jiang Chen lowered his eyes, hidden calculations flickering within them.

Quickly, the elevator reached their floor.

Xia Qingtian and Jiang Chen exited first while Huo Qilin showed no signs of getting off.

"This is our stop, aren’t you coming out?" Xia Qingtian looked at him curiously.

Huo Qilin shook his head and said, "I just remembered that I need to pick something up. I’ll drop by your office once I’ve bought it."

Xia Qingtian found his statement strange; she didn’t understand why he needed to see her after his purchase, but she didn’t object.

"Okay," she nodded.

And so, Huo Qilin rode the elevator back down.

Xia Qingtian turned to Jiang Chen, "You can go about your tasks. I’m going to my office."

She walked toward the office, after a couple of steps, she noticed a little shadow tailing her.

Turning around, she found that it was Jiang Chen following her, which she found peculiar.

"Jiang Chen, why are you following me?" She asked, perplexed.

Jiang Chen, slightly nervous, touched his nose and shyly responded, "Uhm, I have something of utmost importance to discuss with you, Sister Qingtian."

Xia Qingtian had always been diligent in her role as a manager.

Given Jiang Chen’s earnest disposition, Xia Qingtian took his words seriously and didn’t hesitate to invite him to her office, "Alright, you can tell me in my office."

She led Jiang Chen to her office.

After pouring him a glass of warm water, she asked, "What’s going on? Do you need help with work-related issues?"

Jiang Chen, holding the glass of water, remained silent.

Xia Qingtian did not rush him and proceeded to open her laptop, checking if there were any urgent emails to respond to.

As for Jiang Chen, she knew that he would speak up when he’s ready.

After a while, Jiang Chen finally seemed to settle his emotions and uttered, "Sister Qingtian, I didn’t come here to talk about work, rather, I’ve fallen in love with a girl."

Xia Qingtian nonchalantly shrugged, "If you like her, then go after her. Our company doesn’t restrict romantic relationships; we don’t sell boyfriend or girlfriend personas. As long as your relationship is healthy and doesn’t violate the law or morality, you’re free to do as you wish."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Chen, who just recently looked shy, suddenly lifted his head and stared at her eagerly.

"What if I told you that the person I like is you?"

Xia Qingtian found his words quite absurd.

She raised an eyebrow at Jiang Chen and asked seriously, "Are you being serious? Or are you joking with me?"

"Of course, I’m serious. I’ve never joked about feelings," Jiang Chen looked straight at her and said, "Sister Qingtian, would you give me a chance?"

Xia Qingtian was taken aback at first but quickly composed herself.

After holding his gaze for a few seconds, she averted her eyes and asked thoughtfully, "Do you really like me?"

"Of course," Jiang Chen responded affirmatively.

Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but chuckle, "You’re lying. Maybe you do like me, but not in a romantic way. You’re more drawn to the benefits I can bring you."

Hearing her response, Jiang Chen looked hurt.

"Sister Qingtian, why would you say that?" He asked.

Xia Qingtian stood from her office chair and told him, "You see, affection for someone is hard to hide—the same goes for indifference. Besides, you’re still quite a novice at acting, kid."

Facing her all-seeing gaze, Jiang Chen had no words to deny the accusations.

Xia Qingtian didn’t want to waste any more time on this matter, she told him, "Alright, that’s the end of this little melodrama. You can leave now; I have work to do."

Jiang Chen was still somewhat unwilling and wanted to say more.

But he realized that further protest was futile under the circumstances, so he left.

After his departure, Xia Qingtian was not in a mood for work.

She deliberated for a moment before calling up a recently hired manager who didn’t have any clients yet, and transferred Jiang Chen to her.

"From now on, you’ll be in charge of Jiang Chen. Take good care of him," she instructed.

The newly appointed manager was overcome with surprise and gratitude. She had not expected she’d get her own client so soon, "Thank you, thank you, Ms. Xia. I appreciate you giving me this opportunity. I’ll work hard and won’t let you down," she said fervently.

Xia Qingtian waved her hand, signaling that she could leave.

The new manager left Xia Qingtian’s office overjoyed, only to bump into Huo Qilin carrying a sizable bouquet of red roses.

At the sight of Huo Qilin, her eyes lit up.

This was the top artist in the company.

"Hello, Brother Qilin," she greeted him enthusiastically.
