Chapter 501: Chapter 501: Keeping Calm in the Face of Danger_1
Bo Jingyan zoomed down the road, racing at top speed towards Lucy’s house.
They arrived in no time.
Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan quickly got out of the car and entered Lucy’s home.
The place was a mess, completely empty. Lucy was nowhere to be found.
All Xia Qingtian could do was say to Bo Jingyan, "Let’s split up and look for clues. We need to figure out who took Lucy and where they might have taken her."
Just as Bo Jingyan was about to reply, suddenly...
It was as if something had caught his eye, a fleeting sense of shock in his deep gaze.
"Get down!" he growled abruptly.
Startled, Xia Qingtian instinctively looked back at Bo Jingyan, but before she could see his face, a large figure lunged towards her, knocking her to the ground.
Bo Jingyan held her tightly in his arms, protecting her from harm.
Despite her confusion as to his motives, she asked, "Bo Jingyan, what are you..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a piercing noise suddenly reached her ears. As she tried to look in the direction of the sound, Bo Jingyan pushed her down.
Then, large shards of glass rained down from above.
Shaken, Xia Qingtian realized that if Bo Jingyan hadn’t protected her just now, she could either be dead or at least severely injured, possibly even losing her sight.
"Are you okay?" Bo Jingyan’s voice came through, fraught with tension.
"I’m fine." Xia Qingtian shook her head slightly, still shaken. Then, belatedly, she asked, "What just happened? Why did the glass shatter all of a sudden?"
Bo Jingyan didn’t have time to answer her, ensuring she was unharmed before quickly pulling her to her feet, his voice urgent and serious. "We need to get out of here, now. It’s dangerous."
Xia Qingtian was whisked away, hustled into the car in a daze.
Bo Jingyan quickly got in as well, not even having time to fasten his seatbelt before slamming on the accelerator. The car shot forward like an arrow released from its bow.
Startled, Xia Qingtian gripped the handle tightly.
Just as she was about to ask what was going on, a shattering noise sounded from behind. Instinctively, she turned to look; the large potted plant near the car had exploded.
She clearly saw a flash of light slice through the dark, hitting the pot and causing it to shatter.
Connecting this to the sudden breaking of the glass at Lucy’s house, and Bo Jingyan’s state of high alert, she suddenly realized something.
Her face turning pale, Xia Qingtian exclaimed, "Bo Jingyan, was that...a gunshot?"
"Yes." Bo Jingyan had to confirm her fears. Their situation was incredibly dangerous. Any lapse in attention could be lethal.
They both had to remain extremely alert.
Finally realizing the gravity of the situation, Xia Qingtian forced herself to calm down.
But before she could say anything else, the harsh sound of car engines emanated from behind. And it wasn’t just one.
Glancing back, she saw several cars following them.
Having been pursued by haters before, she immediately recognized that those cars were not there by coincidence. They were chasing them.
Knowing that the situation was dire, she forced herself to stay calm.
"Jingyan, there are three Jeeps following us," she cautioned, her voice trembling despite her efforts to control it.
Recognizing her fear, Bo Jingyan gripped the steering wheel with one hand and took her hand with the other, promising, "Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, I won’t let you be in danger."
Xia Qingtian remained silent, neither expressing trust nor distrust.
Bo Jingyan didn’t take it personally.
Constantly on edge, Xia Qingtian kept a watchful eye on the cars chasing them.
Under the bright moonlight, she saw people leaning out of the cars. As she was wondering why, a familiar flare was shot towards their car.
Only then did she understand. They were being shot at.
Frightened, she screamed at the top of her lungs, "Get down!"
Without hesitation, Bo Jingyan ducked as soon as he heard her, followed by a sharp noise as their windshield shattered.
The cold wind rushed in through the broken windshield, sending chills down their spines.
But however cold the wind, it was not as chilling as the realization of their situation.
"Jingyan, what do we do now? They have guns..." Xia Qingtian asked the man beside her in fear, "We can’t keep this up for much longer."
Bo Jingyan thought for a moment before telling her, "I’ll handle the people behind us. You’re in charge of driving."
As he spoke, he pulled Xia Qingtian over to switch seats, then guided her hand to the steering wheel.
Next, he pulled out a gun from seemingly nowhere.
A sudden rush of fear left Xia Qingtian flustered, but she clenched her teeth and gripped the steering wheel, struggling to control the car and prevent any accidents.
Meanwhile, Bo Jingyan turned around and fired two shots.
A screech of tires followed by a flash of flames lit up the dark night.
Calmly, Bo Jingyan fired a few more shots behind him, followed by the familiar sounds of screeching tires and erupting flames.
During a brief lull, Xia Qingtian glanced back and saw only one vehicle remaining. Impressed, she cheered, "Jingyan, you’re amazing!"
Bo Jingyan attempted to fire again but discovered his gun was out of bullets.
He cursed to himself, then sat back down in the passenger seat and said seriously, "I’m out of bullets. We must lose the car behind us."
Xia Qingtian didn’t reply. She was distracted by a strong smell of blood.
Why was there the smell of blood?
Startled, she quickly turned to Bo Jingyan.
Bo Jingyan was pressing his shoulder, and blood was seeping out from between his fingers. His handsome face was pale, and sweat drenched his forehead.
"Bo Jingyan, are you injured?" Xia Qingtian asked in fear.
