Seeing Xia Qingtian like this, a trace of sympathy flickered in Bo Jingyan’s deep-set eyes.

He gently took hold of Xia Qingtian’s hand, his voice softened with an unbelievable tenderness. "You don’t have to be afraid. I will watch over you tonight. You can sleep peacefully."

"And you?" she asked, pressing her lips together.

Bo Jingyan merely shrugged it off. "It’s fine. I’m not tired."

If it weren’t for the fatigue etched on his flawless face and the dark circles under his eyes, Xia Qingtian might have really believed him.

How could he not be tired?

On the flight, he hadn’t had a moment’s rest because he had been taking care of her.

Then, after finally arriving at the hotel, he had been awoken by her in the middle of the night.

He must be more tired than she was.

With this in mind, Xia Qingtian wanted to tell him that she wasn’t afraid anymore and that he should go to his own room to get some proper rest. But she couldn’t bring herself to utter those words.

After some momentary hesitation, Xia Qingtian offered, "The bed is large enough. If you don’t mind, you can lie down and rest with me."

At her words, Bo Jingyan looked at her sharply, his gaze burning hot. "Xia Qingtian, do you know what you just said implies?"

She had only meant to suggest that he should take a rest.

Hindered by his impassioned gaze, she realized he had misunderstood.

"You have changed your mind? Decided to be responsible for me without waiting for my memory recovery?" Bo Jingyan furthered his question without any hint of her thoughts.

As he spoke, he leaned towards her, closing the gap between them.

The space between them vanished rapidly, Xia Qingtian was entirely enveloped by his pungent masculine scent, causing her heart to race.

Instantly, she placed a hand on his chest, forbidding him from getting any closer.

She held her breath until the smell of his masculinity faded. Her heart settled, her brain resumed its operation just as it threatened to short-circuit.

"No!" She pushed him away firmly, "My thoughts have always been the same. If you want me to be responsible for you, then hurry up and recover the memories from three years ago."

Seeing her firm resolve left no room for negotiation, a touch of disappointment surfaced within Bo Jingyan, though it didn’t show on his face.

Xia Qingtian suddenly felt a wave of fatigue sweeping over her and couldn’t help but yawn.

Bo Jingyan immediately decided that anything important could be discussed in the daylight. For now, sleeping was the priority.

He laid down beside her, "Sleep."

Xia Qingtian truly was tired, she closed her eyes without further hesitation.

Perhaps it was Bo Jingyan’s presence next to her that gave her a sense of security, she fell asleep quickly and slept soundly until daylight, dreamless.

When Xia Qingtian woke up, she felt refreshing and revitalized.

She tried to stretch out but found herself unable to move, as though someone was restraining her movements.

Startled, she opened her eyes and found herself looking at a masculine neck, with a chin slightly covered in stubble.

Strangely, that stubble didn’t make him look slack; instead, it added a hint of casual sexiness.

Xia Qingtian was secretly captivated, unaware that the man beside her had already awakened.

"Are you satisfied with what you’re looking at?" A deep, husky voice teased.

"Hmm, satisfied." Xia Qingtian responded without thinking.

Not until she had responded did she realise and abruptly looked up into a pair of smiling eyes.

Immediately, she recognized the owner of that sexy stubble; it was Bo Jingyan.

The memory of the previous night returned in a flash.

Xia Qingtian pushed Bo Jingyan aside and rolled away, increasing the distance between them.

Once she had distanced herself from Bo Jingyan, her rational thinking returned.

She expressed her gratitude with clarity, "Thank you for last night."

Seeing her serious demeanor, Bo Jingyan found the genuine emotion she displayed the previous night more appealing. Still, recalling how terrified she was then, he decided it was better experienced only once.

"No need to thank me. You’ll repay all of it in the future." He hinted with a pointed tone.

Xia Qingtian felt there was more to his words but decided not to probe further.

The most urgent matter was to confirm Xia Guohua’s safety, why he was missing, and where he might be.

With this thought, Xia Qingtian got out of bed, "Today is the second day and we are rested. We shouldn’t waste any more time. Let’s get ready and start looking for clues."

Bo Jingyan, knowing her worry, did not object.

To save time, they decided to freshen up separately.

Soon, they were dressed in casual clothing suitable for movement. They didn’t take time for breakfast but bought a few sandwiches so they could eat on the go.

Once they left the hotel, Xia Qingtian had a vague idea of what next.

However, she decided to defer to Bo Jingyan and asked him instead, "Jingyan, how are we going to find my father?"

Bo Jingyan took her to the parking lot, located a car he had arranged beforehand, and gallantly opened the passenger door for her.

"We can discuss it in the car." He said.

Xia Qingtian bent down to get into the vehicle.

Bo Jingyan closed her door before getting into the driver’s seat and started the car.

Sensing his focus was elsewhere and seemingly driving straight to a particular location, Xia Qingtian asked him, "Where are we headed?"

"We’re going to the place where the assistant’s body was discovered..." Bo Jingyan did not conceal anything. "We’ll see if we can find any clues. You know, the legal institutions in B Country are no longer safe. It’s better if we look for clues ourselves rather than relying on them. It might save us from some detours as well as being safer."

Recalling the result of the investigation into the assistant’s death given by B Country’s judiciary, Xia Qingtian agreed wholeheartedly with Bo Jingyan’s words.

"Actually, I was thinking the same." she nodded in agreement, her tone grave. "I had never thought of seeking help from the institutions of the B Country."
