Chapter 486: Chapter 486: Arrogant Due to Favoritism_1

Bo Jingyan saw the urgency in Xia Qingtian, knowing that she was keen to learn about Xia Guohua’s whereabouts.

Sooner or later, she would learn about this matter.

Without prolonging the suspense, he elegantly put down the dishes, stood up and said, "Come with me to the study, we’ll talk there at length."

"Yes." Xia Qingtian nodded, her heartbeat suddenly accelerated as she followed him.

Shortly, they reached Bo Jingyan’s study.

Bo Jingyan closed the door of the study before he spoke, "I have bad news and good news to share."

Before Xia Qingtian could inquire further, he candidly continued, "The bad news is, the team I sent overseas to find your father, discovered the body of the assistant who was at your father’s side."

Hearing this, even though Xia Qingtian knew there was good news to follow, she couldn’t help but pale.

"What’s the good news?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"The good news is that we only found the assistant’s body and not your father’s," Bo Jingyan started, "So, your father’s status is still that of a missing person, not..."

He did not finish the sentence, fearing it would distress Xia Qingtian.

Xia Qingtian’s legs gave way and she sank into the chair.

Bo Jingyan, when he chooses to speak, only divulges comforting news. The assistant responsible for Xia Guohua is dead, but what could be the promising outcome for the missing Xia Guohua?

He could be just missing, but there is also a chance that he is already dead, just that his body has not yet been found.

Xia Qingtian felt a lump in her throat and a stinging sensation in her nose at the contemplation of this possibility.

She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, and then asked, "How did your assistant die?"

If they could find the cause of the assistant’s death, it could provide clues about Xia Guohua.

Bo Jingyan pulled out a document from the drawer and handed it to her, saying, "This is a notice from the foreign police, read it for yourself."

Xia Qingtian stretched out her trembling fingers to take it.

She opened the file, quickly scanned through it. The police notice was very clear – the assistant had died by suicide, the cause of death was indisputable.

But she felt that if there was really nothing suspicious about the cause of death, Bo Jingyan, knowing him as she did, would have said so directly, he wouldn’t have told her a long story or led her mysteriously to the study.

Thus, there must be something hidden.

Xia Qingtian closed the file and handed it back to him, "I have finished reading it. So did your assistant, who you sent with my father, really commit suicide?"

Bo Jingyan was a bit surprised, he approvingly looked at her. She was far more perceptive and intelligent than he had initially thought, having quickly grasped his insinuations.

"No." He shook his head and said, "The people I sent, when they arrived at the local police station, found that the assistant’s body had already been cremated. I realized then, that this did not comply with foreign legal procedure, hence, I suspect that the cause of assistant’s death was fabricated."

"However, the body had been cremated, and the autopsy report provided by the police did not show any anomalies. Finally, I instructed them to locate the person who had first found the dead body."

"Since the discoverer was not a professional detective and also had been frightened, he couldn’t provide anything beyond a simple description of the state of the body when he found it. I asked my men to consult the most famous criminal investigators internationally, and they assured me that the wounds on the assistant’s body could not possibly have been self-inflicted."

Not a suicide?

So, the assistant was murdered? Perhaps even as part of a premeditated murder plot.

If it were not so, the foreign police would not have hurried to cremate the assistant’s body nor would they release a fake suicide notice.

Someone must have bribed them.

Whoever killed the assistant must be very influential.

Xia Qingtian, realizing this, felt as if her heart was being squeezed.

"Who killed the assistant? Was he the target, or was it my father?" She swallowed nervously, her voice quivering as she asked.

Bo Jingyan shook his head. "I am still unclear about that."

Xia Qingtian blinked anxiously, "Bo Jingyan, do you think my father might also..."

She couldn’t finish her sentence.

She was truly terrified, afraid that Xia Guohua might have also been murdered, but his body had not yet been found.

Bo Jingyan immediately grasped her concerns in one glance. He held her cold hands tightly, trying to reassure her, "Don’t scare yourself, no news is good news."

Xia Qingtian pursed her lips, remaining silent.

She was not reassured by Bo Jingyan’s comforting words.

Seeing her so worried, Bo Jingyan tightened his grip on her hand and said solemnly, "Don’t worry, I am currently organizing the company’s affairs. Once that’s handled, I will personally go overseas to find your father."

Upon hearing this, Xia Qingtian looked up at him, somewhat taken aback.

If Bo Jingyan hadn’t lost his memory and was willing to do this for her, she wouldn’t be surprised. But why was he doing this after losing his memory?

"Why... Why are you so kind to me?" Her voice cracked as she asked.

Bo Jingyan was a bit perplexed himself.

He just knew that Xia Guohua was incredibly important to Xia Qingtian. If he didn’t find Xia Guohua, or some definite news about him, Xia Qingtian would be extremely upset.

So, he spontaneously decided, to personally go overseas and handle this.

As for the reason, he didn’t know.

Could it be love? He did have special feelings for Xia Qingtian, perhaps even feelings of love to the extent of feeling jealous and angry when he saw her with other men.

But this fondness was not sufficient to propel him to leave all his work behind and specifically go overseas to help her find her father.

Could it be that he likes Xia Qingtian more than he thinks he does, enough to be willing to do all this for her?

He didn’t know.

In the end, Bo Jingyan could only say to her, "I don’t have an answer to your question right now. I’ll let you know when I do."

Since he had put it in such a way, Xia Qingtian naturally wouldn’t press further.

She looked at Bo Jingyan squarely, and changing the topic, said, "I’ll come with you."

Bo Jingyan frowned and impulsively declined, "No, it’s too dangerous."

The assistant was confirmed to have been murdered and the murderer not only had money but potentially significant influence, given that they had bribed the foreign judicial authorities.

If he were to go overseas to find Xia Guohua, it would be like them being exposed while the enemy stayed hidden; they would be on foreign soil, the situation would be unfavorable and could pose danger, even threatening Xia Qingtian’s safety.

How could he possibly let such a situation occur?
