Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Solving Trouble_1
Xia Qingtian was relentlessly attacked online.
Not only was her social media account targeted, but anything or anyone related to her were also disparaged. The ones most affected by this were Huo Qilin and Cheng Bingbing.
Cheng Bingbing dare not even check the comments on her own social media platform.
However, she did not blame Xia Qingtian, choosing instead to regularly send her encouraging messages.
As for Huo Qilin, he was so guilt-ridden that he couldn’t face Xia Qingtian. He felt that it was his rash actions that had resulted in her being severely vilified online.
He believed it was him who had dragged Xia Qingtian into this mess.
Xia Qingtian didn’t have the time or energy to console him.
At that moment, she was in a video conference with her company’s public relations department, discussing how to handle the crisis.
After all, she had noticed some particularly aggressive trolls online, incited by malicious individuals, threatening to expose her personal information.
Xia Qingtian knew that if this were allowed to continue, something worse could happen.
However, the public relations team didn’t have any particularly effective methods to deal with the trolls since many people believed that they could act with impunity online.
The only course of action was to send a cease and desist letter to the most aggressive trolls to serve as a warning to others.
But this tactic was already too commonplace; it might have worked in the past, but it no longer effective now.
If these trolls were silenced, others would undoubtedly replace them.
There was no way they could sue them all; they didn’t have the resources or capacity to do so.
Just as they were racking their brains to counter the online trolls, a turning point in the situation emerged unexpectedly.
"Sister Xia..." a public relations colleague who was monitoring online trends suddenly exclaimed, "The online trolls seem to have quietened down, and the posts slandering you have all been silenced."
Upon hearing this, not only was Xia Qingtian stunned.
Even her colleagues in the public relations department were shocked.
Further discussion was set aside as they all pulled out their phones to check for themselves. They discovered that all search results related to Xia Qingtian had been thoroughly purged.
"What’s going on?"
"They’re actually all gone!"
"Could it be another nation-wide internet clean-up campaign?"
"That can’t be. Other celebrities’ slanderous posts are still online."
"I know what’s happened. Someone helped our Sister Xia. All the trolls who slandered her online have received court summonses."
Upon hearing this last statement, everyone was flabbergasted.
Sending a cease and desist letter to trolls is one thing, issuing them a court summons is an entirely different matter.
The former is merely a warning.
The latter means lawyers have taken them to court.
The scale of the attack against Xia Qingtian was extensive. If everyone was sued, it would be a huge expense that their entertainment agency simply couldn’t afford.
"Sister Xia, who knew a wealthy benefactor would spare no expense to aid you."
Upon hearing these words, the first person who came to Xia Qingtian’s mind was Bo Jingyan. However, once she snapped out of her thoughts, she laughed bitterly at herself.
Bo Jingyan was currently abroad and had been refusing to answer her calls.
At first, his phone was switched off. Later, even though she could get through, he never picked up.
If Bo Jingyan couldn’t even be bothered to answer her calls, why would he care if she was being slandered online? She felt that the most likely person to help her was Huo Qilin.
Although he was a down-and-out singer she had rescued from a bar, he was also the young master of the influential Huo Family that had a foot in both the underworld and legal businesses.
Xia Qingtian didn’t plan to voice her suspicions.
"No matter what, it’s a good thing that this issue has been resolved," she brought the topic back, "Nevertheless, we need to continue to monitor online activities closely. If anything unusual is detected, inform me at once."
With this matter resolved, she ended the video call.
As soon as she ended the call, Huo Qilin walked in from outside, looking rather despondent. He looked at her cautiously, "Are you still mad at me?"
Seeing him like this, Xia Qingtian knew that he was still unaware of the online situation.
"I’m not angry," she shook her head, "You’re just the catalyst in this situation, it’s not your fault. I have no reason to be mad at you. The real culprits are those trolls."
"Really?" Huo Qilin looked at her with a surprised expression.
"Of course," Xia Qingtian’s lips curled into a sly smile, "I have no need to lie to you."
Huo Qilin finally let out a sigh of relief. He then presented a small gift he had bought for her, "I saw this while I was out shopping and thought this would suit you, so I bought it."
Xia Qingtian knew he was feeling uneasy, so she didn’t refuse his gift.
"Thank you," she accepted his gift.
She decided to buy him a gift of similar value as soon as she was discharged from the hospital. This way, Huo Qilin could be at ease, and she wouldn’t feel indebted to him.
Indeed, once she received his gift, Huo Qilin breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Xia Qingtian put the gift away, and thinking that the online issue had been fully resolved but she still didn’t know who had helped her, she asked him, "Did you ask your family for help with my situation?"
"How did you know?" Huo Qilin looked at her in surprise.
Seeing his reaction, Xia Qingtian realized that her suspicions were correct.
As she had initially suspected, it was Huo Qilin, not Bo Jingyan, who had helped her.
Realizing this, she was washed over with an overwhelming sense of disappointment.
Huo Qilin noticed that her complexion had changed. He remembered that his family had ties with the underworld and had spent the last several decades trying to clean up their reputation. He assumed that Xia Qingtian didn’t want anything to do with them.
Feeling unsure, he asked, "Should I not have done this? If so, I’ll immediately call my brother and tell him to stay out of this."
Hearing his words, Xia Qingtian came back to her senses and realised he had misunderstood her.
Immediately, she shook her head, "No, I was just thinking about something else. You’ve helped me resolve the online issue, I should be grateful, not blame you."
If Huo Qilin had not helped, she might still be suffering from the online smear campaign which could have exposed her personal information and endangered those around her, including Bo Jingyan and An’an.
She was grateful for the intervention of the Huo Family that helped avoid such a predicament.
"It’s already been resolved?" Huo Qilin was stunned upon hearing her words, a trace of bewilderment flashed across his face.
"Yes." Xia Qingtian, preoccupied with her own thoughts, didn’t take notice of his slightly odd reaction and replied, "The posts and comments slandering me have all been silenced, and the trolls have received court summonses. They don’t dare to slander me anymore."
Upon hearing this, Huo Qilin immediately pulled out his phone and saw that everything she said was true.
The trolls didn’t dare to comment further, and the online environment had become much cleaner.
