Chapter 415: Chapter 415: The Fear of Public Opinion_1
Shi Qian covered her face, a glint of resentment in her eyes, ready to retaliate.
But after glancing at Bo Jingyan, she changed her mind.
Because she suddenly realized something very important: Bo Jingyan no longer had any memory of Xia Qingtian. He didn’t understand her, and there was no emotional foundation between them.
The image of Xia Qingtian in his heart needed to be redefined and redesigned.
As long as she and Bo’s mother keep badmouthing Xia Qingtian in front of Bo Jingyan, tarnishing her image, would he still like such a Xia Qingtian?
With this in mind, Shi Qian not only refrained from retaliation but also slipped behind Bo Jingyan, feigning innocence.
"Sister Qingtian, did you hit me because you were angry at me for telling the truth?" She peeked from behind Bo Jingyan, and continued to provoke.
"I know I shouldn’t expose your flaws, but Bo’s mother and Brother Jingyan treated me so well. If I knew something, even if I offend you, I would still say it."
"You are now Brother Jingyan’s wife, you should be loyal to him, and not frolic with other men."
Xia Qingtian found herself laughing at this, "Come out here, let’s have a proper discussion."
She talked with a smile, yet her eyes betrayed not a hint of amusement, only a boundless chill that seemed to freeze people into place.
How could Shi Qian come out now with her face still stinging from the slap?
"No, I’m afraid you’ll hit me again in a fit of anger." She hid further behind Bo Jingyan.
"If you know you’ll be punished, then why wouldn’t you learn to clean up your act?" Xia Qingtian didn’t tolerate Shi Qian’s persistence and reached out to drag her out.
If she doesn’t force Shi Qian to apologize to her today, she won’t be Xia Qingtian!!!
"Enough!" Bo Jingyan’s forehead throbbed, and he blocked Xia Qingtian’s hand aimed at Shi Qian.
Xia Qingtian looked at him in disbelief, "Bo Jingyan, you’re actually defending Shi Qian by stopping me?"
It didn’t matter what she did in the past; Bo Jingyan would not only not stop her but would wholly support her. But now, knowing that Shi Qian just slandered and humiliated her, he still chose to defend Shi Qian.
She suddenly felt as if her heart was being pierced by a thousand holes.
Bo Jingyan frowned.
He wanted to tell Xia Qingtian that the reason he stopped her and refused to let her hit Shi Qian was simply because he had promised Bo’s mother to protect Shi Qian and not allow anyone to harm her.
She had already slapped Shi Qian twice; if she continued, he wouldn’t be able to justify himself to his mother.
The reason he didn’t stop Shi Qian from talking nonsense was due to his selfish desires; he didn’t like seeing Xia Qingtian with Huo Qilin.
So he deviously sought to use Shi Qian to alienate Xia Qingtian from Huo Qilin for his benefit.
Or perhaps, to find out where he stands in Xia Qingtian’s heart in comparison with Huo Qilin.
Just as Bo Jingyan was about to speak, he suddenly...
Lifted his gaze and saw Huo Qilin standing not far away, looking anxiously at Xia Qingtian.
The expressionless look on his face turned increasingly icy.
He didn’t like the way Huo Qilin looked at Xia Qingtian or their connection in any way.
Bo Jingyan felt as though his heart was on fire, roasting him in unspeakable pain. Only by completely separating Xia Qingtian and Huo Qilin could he extinguish this fire.
"Xia Qingtian..." He called her name with a slightly lowered voice,"If you don’t want others to talk about you, then keep your distance from Huo Qilin."
"What do you mean by this?" Hearing his words, Xia Qingtian widened her eyes, forgetting all about Shi Qian.
"What I mean is, you should stay away from Huo Qilin. That way, even if others want to slander you, they won’t have an excuse," Bo Jingyan spoke against his will.
He knew his words sounded despicable.
But he just didn’t want Huo Qilin to be around Xia Qingtian or to look at her in that way.
Xia Qingtian thought her heart couldn’t possibly hurt any more, but now she found out she was wrong.
Bo Jingyan still found ways to rub salt in her wounds, hurting her even more.
She looked at Bo Jingyan, and then at Shi Qian, who was hiding behind him and currently looking at her with a provoking smile, as if mocking her belief that Bo Jingyan would always stand by her side, no matter what.
Reality, however, had given her a fierce slap.
Bo Jingyan, after losing his memory, had not only forgotten her but also lost his trust in her.
So, a few baseless remarks from Shi Qian were enough for him to side with her and hurt Xia Qingtian—something the Bo Jingyan of the past would never do.
Xia Qingtian painfully acknowledged that the Bo Jingyan who lost three years of memory was no longer the person in her memories.
She suddenly felt disheartened.
"Bo Jingyan..." Xia Qingtian’s voice trembled as she called his name.
She tried her best to hold back the tears, but they still welled up irresistibly in her eyes. She shut her eyes, stubbornly holding back the tears, unwilling to be Shi Qian’s laughingstock.
After a while, when she felt all the tears had been pushed back, she opened her eyes.
Xia Qingtian lifted her head and defiantly met Bo Jingyan’s eyes, "The most important thing about being together is trust. If the bridge of trust collapses, there’s no point in continuing like this."
Seeing her red eyes, Bo Jingyan’s heart ached.
He thought to himself; if trust was so crucial and the bridge of trust had collapsed, it could be rebuilt.
"Sister Qingtian, what’s the meaning of your words? Are you going to divorce Brother Jingyan for Huo Qilin?" Shi Qian covered her mouth, a look of surprise on her face, "Does that mean, between you and Huo Qilin...there is really...?"
She didn’t finish her sentence, leaving room for wild speculation.
Xia Qingtian didn’t want to listen to her nonsense and ignored her words.
She had made up her mind.
It didn’t matter what Shi Qian said, what mattered was Bo Jingyan’s opinion.
Before Bo Jingyan lost his memory, Shi Qian had tried to sow discord between them repeatedly, but she had never succeeded.
Xia Qingtian could ignore Shi Qian’s words, but Bo Jingyan could not.
For him, their relationship and marriage were a complete blank, filled only by other people’s input and his own investigation.
But whether it was what Bo’s mother told him or the results of his own investigation, nothing was satisfying...
