Xia Qingtian feared that Xia Guohua would endlessly ask her to bring Bo Jingyan into investing in the Xia Family.

Their conversation carried an edge of stiffness as she said, "My decision from before remains unchanged. If the company is struggling, it’s your management at fault. Even if the Bo Family invested in it, it wouldn’t change the current state of things."

After speaking, she waited for Xia Guohua to fly off the handle.

But unexpectedly, he calmly said, "I’ve sold off the Xia Family business."

"You’ve sold it?" Xia Qingtian’s face registered pure shock.

Hadn’t he always regarded the company as more important than his life?

He maneuvered his own daughter into seducing Bo Jingyan in a desperate attempt to save the floundering family enterprise, so how could he sell it off?

Xia Guohua didn’t want to explain much to her. Once again he urged, "Get in the car."

Xia Qingtian hesitated for a moment, but obediently got into the car.

Once in the vehicle, she noticed that Xia Guohua seemed to have slimmed down, looked considerably older, and even felt somewhat unfamiliar.

"Where are you going? Can I give you a lift?" Xia Guohua asked, as if he hadn’t noticed her staring.

"To the Bo Group."

In response, Xia Guohua instructed the driver to drop Xia Qingtian off at the Bo Group headquarters.

Throughout the journey, both father and daughter remained silent, each seeming like a stranger to the other.

Once they arrived at the Bo Group, Xia Guohua had her exit the car, before he drove off, as if he had merely intended to give her a lift.

Xia Qingtian stood where she was until his car was swallowed by traffic and was no longer visible. Only then, with questions swirling in her mind, did she tear her gaze away.

When she finally saw Bo Jingyan, she told him about her encounter with Xia Guohua and his shocking announcement that he had sold the company.

Bo Jingyan made some inquiries and found, to his astonishment, that Xia Guohua was telling the truth.

He’d really sold off the company!

This was absolutely unthinkable! She had always believed that, unless the business was bankrupt and shut down, Xia Guohua would never let go of it for as long as he lived.

But on the other hand, she supposed it was better that way- that would at least prevent her mother’s painstaking efforts from falling completely into ruin at Xia Guohua’s hands.

With that thought in her head, Xia Qingtian decided to put the matter out of her mind.

Noticing that Xia Qingtian was in a poor mood and assuming it was due to her meeting with Xia Guohua, Bo Jingyan didn’t pry further.

In an attempt to cheer her up, he canceled his plans that night and took her out for dinner at a nice restaurant.

One can put almost any troubles behind them with a good meal, and if not one meal, then two would surely do the trick.

However, on their way inside the restaurant, they unexpectedly ran into Shen Yaxuan with his arm in a cast. By his side was an incredibly beautiful young woman, radiant and elegant.

The two of them seemed to be in a sour mood.

The usually carefree Shen Yaxuan was clearly vexed. "Shen Zhiyi, I’ve told you before, I have absolutely no interest in a family-arranged marriage, and I have no interest in you."

Grimacing, Shen Zhiyi rebuked, "Shen Yaxuan, you asshole! You think I’m interested in you?! If not for my parents’ insistence, do you think I’d be here, on this blind date with you?"

With that, she stormed off in tears.

Clearly irritated, Shen Yaxuan pulled a cigarette from his pocket with his free hand and managed to light it.

He was just about to take a puff and leave when...

He spotted Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan not too far off. Remembering the hazards of secondhand smoke, he quickly extinguished the cigarette he had just lit.

"Qingtian, long time no see," he said, a look of uncontainable adoration in his eyes.

Seeing him, Xia Qingtian was reminded of how their misunderstandings and troubles could have been avoided had it not been for his secret keeping. Thus, she didn’t give him a warm welcome.

"If it were up to me, I’d hope we never have to see each other again," Xia Qingtian said coldly. "Because you seem to only bring me pain."

Shen Yaxuan didn’t care what others thought of him, but he couldn’t bear to be misunderstood by the woman he loved.

"Qing Tian, you know my feelings for you. Of all the people in the world, you’re the last one I’d want to hurt."

Scoffing, Xia Qingtian shot back, "If your feelings for me involve letting that malicious Chen Momo pretend to be me and flaunt her power in my face, sabotaging the relationship between my husband and me, I’d rather not have them."

Hearing this, Shen Yaxuan’s expression froze on his face.

"Qing Tian, what do you mean by that?" He asked in a choked voice.

Bo Jingyan was the one who responded. "Shen Yaxuan, call off your people. There’s no need to keep investigating the identity of that woman from the Imperial Hotel that night. I already know the truth."

It seemed Bo Jingyan had finally realized that the woman he had encountered that night at the Imperial Hotel was indeed, Qingtian.

He had also come to accept that the child she was carrying was his own.

Realizing this, Shen Yaxuan’s heart felt as bitter as if he had swallowed a bitter pill.

He had lost. Completely and utterly lost.

And there was no hope of ever turning things around.

"Qingtian," Shen Yaxuan stared intently at Xia Qingtian, "whether you believe me or not, I’ve never intended to hurt you. Everything I’ve done, my intentions were always good. I only wanted you to be free and happy."

Xia Qingtian cut him off with a frown, "I don’t need it."

She didn’t need Shen Yaxuan’s attention, nor did she need the guise of his affection for her as he continually hurt her.

Bo Jingyan immediately pulled her into his arms possessively, saying defiantly to Shen Yaxuan, "Shen Yaxuan, Qing Tian is my woman. Everything she wants, I will give her. You need not concern yourself."

"Those people you dispatched to thwart my investigation have already been dealt with in secret. Consider it payback. If I find out that you’ve been pulling strings behind my back again, the next person I deal with won’t just be your underlings but you, Shen Yaxuan, and even perhaps the entire Shen Family!"

Having said that, Bo Jingyan took no further notice of Shen Yaxuan, and instead ushered Xia Qingtian into the restaurant.

Shen Yaxuan watched as their forms receded into the distance, recalling Xia Qingtian’s icy, aloof expression and feeling as if a huge hole had been ripped in his heart.

The vast emptiness was almost enough to drive him mad.

Hailing a nearby car, he instructed the driver to take him to A City’s largest bar.

He decided to drown his sorrows in alcohol in hopes of filling the hollow space within him.
