Chapter 300: Chapter 300 His Secret_1
"No, I must do it!"
Xia Qingtian resolutely intended to get up. "Grandpa hasn’t had an appetite for days. If he doesn’t eat properly now, he’ll need to be injected with nutrients. I must give Grandma’s recipe a try today and see if it helps."
However, Bo Jingyan kept her seated, his hand pressing down on her shoulder.
"No wonder Grandpa adores you, given how much effort you put in for him." he said, his tone bearing an underlying insinuation.
Xia Qingtian immediately sensed the oddity in his voice and looked at him incredulously. "Wait, are you jealous, Bo Jingyan?"
There was a brief hint of stiffness on Bo Jingyan’s otherwise indifferent face. "You’re overthinking," he said.
Xia Qingtian was not easily fooled. "Don’t deny it. I know you’re jealous. But are you jealous of my attention toward Grandpa or Grandpa’s affection toward me..."
"Uhm..."
She couldn’t finish her sentence; Bo Jingyan’s heart-meltingly beautiful face was suddenly enlarged in front of her.
Then, a warmth on her lips shut her up.
He was kissing her!
Bo Jingyan kissed her gently, bit by bit.
In the end, Xia Qingtian felt her scalp tingle, her brain thrown into chaos.
She leaned weakly against the sofa, completely forgetting what she was about to say.
Having achieved his goal, Bo Jingyan released her. "Don’t worry about the cooking..."
As Xia Qingtian began regaining her normal breath, she asked, "What about Grandpa?"
Bo Jingyan paused for a moment. "I’ll cook!" he declared.
Xia Qingtian’s eyes widened. "Do you know how to cook?"
"Just tell me what to do!"
Seeing his firm stance and with her baby causing quite a stir in her belly, Xia Qingtian could only agree. "Alright, let’s give it a try."
After all, lotus root and ribs soup is quite simple.
With the plan set, they both got to work.
Xia Qingtian directed from outside the kitchen, while Bo Jingyan cooked.
Under her directions, Bo Jingyan seemed to be getting the hang of it.
Soon, the soup was ready and just needed a pinch of salt for seasoning.
However, Bo Jingyan was stumped at the final step. The salt and sugar at home looked almost the same, making it impossible to tell them apart by sight.
Having no choice, he turned to Xia Qingtian for help. "Which is the salt and which is the sugar?"
Xia Qingtian knew that their salt and sugar looked identical, making it near-impossible for someone not used to cooking to distinguish. So, she decided to help him.
But as soon as she stepped into the kitchen, a wave of heat hit her. Despite being over her morning sickness phase, she suddenly felt the urge to vomit.
Xia Qingtian immediately clutched her chest and said, "If you can’t distinguish them by sight, taste it. Then you’ll know which is salt and which is sugar."
With that, she dashed to the bathroom, covering her mouth.
It took her a while to get over her urge to vomit.
Because of his illness, Bo Jingyan had lost his sense of taste and couldn’t distinguish the flavors. But seeing her struggling, he didn’t want to bother her anymore.
He decided to pour a little bit of both the salt and the sugar and scrutinized them, using his intuition to finally determine which was which.
After adding the salt to the soup and stirring it up, the soup was ready to serve.
By the time he served the soup, Xia Qingtian was all right. She eagerly ladled a bowl then thought that maybe it would be a good idea to let Jingyan have a taste first since this was his first time cooking.
A sly look passed over her eyes, and she suggested innocently, "Jingyan, my stomach is still a little upset. Why don’t you try it and see if it tastes like how Grandma used to cook?"
"Sure," Bo Jingyan took the soup and had a sip.
Xia Qingtian attentively watched for his reaction.
His expression remained unchanged, leaving her guessing about his thoughts.
Seeing him swallow the soup, she asked anxiously, "How does it taste?"
"Not bad." Bo Jingyan nodded.
The soup he had made was prepared strictly according to grandmother’s recipe. The ingredients and seasonings were exactly the same as stated, not missing a single detail.
So, while it may not be the best, it surely couldn’t taste bad.
Relieved by his response, Xia Qingtian took the bowl from him, curious to taste his attempt at cooking.
However, as soon as the soup entered her mouth, her face contorted with distaste.
She really wanted to swallow it down, to give Bo Jingyan some face, but it was too much to handle.
She held it in for a while but couldn’t help spitting the soup out.
"Wow, this soup is so sweet!" Xia Qingtian quickly drank some water to rinse out her mouth. Only then did she manage to suppress the residual taste.
After another sip of water, she looked at Bo Jingyan and asked, "Did you confuse sugar for salt? Didn’t I tell you to taste them if you couldn’t distinguish them?"
Bo Jingyan frowned slightly without responding to her question and said instead, "I’ll make a new batch."
"Guess we have no choice. I can’t even drink this, let alone Grandpa who hasn’t been eating well." Xia Qingtian nodded in agreement.
Bo Jingyan went back to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Xia Qingtian took the sugar and salt containers and labeled them clearly. This way, Bo Jingyan wouldn’t confuse them again.
Just as she was about to give him the containers, something struck her.
The soup tasted terribly odd. Yet, Bo Jingyan had not reacted when he drank it. Instead, he had declared it "not bad."
And he seemed serious about it, neither teasing nor trying to prank her.
To confirm her suspicion, Xia Qingtian decided to test Bo Jingyan.
She fetched something and called Bo Jingyan, who was already boiling another pot of soup.
Just as Bo Jingyan was about to speak, Xia Qingtian stuffed something into his mouth. "This candy is super tasty, sugar-crusted. Try it."
Bo Jingyan nodded, eating the candy.
Xia Qingtian eagerly watched his reaction, asking, "How does it taste?"
Bo Jingyan seriously commented, "It’s a bit too sweet for me. You should eat less too. Don’t want to get a toothache."
An understanding expression appeared on Xia Qingtian’s face.
She had sprinkled a layer of fine salt on top of the candy. Even without tasting it, she knew that the taste was bizarre. But Bo Jingyan had called it ’too sweet.’
Xia Qingtian suddenly threw her arms around Bo Jingyan, hanging onto him.
"Bo Jingyan, I need to ask you a question, and I need an honest answer."
Bo Jingyan, in case she fell, instantly put his arm around her. "Mm-hm. Ask away."
"You can’t taste things at all, can you?" Xia Qingtian queried, her tone already confirming the fact as truth.
