Chapter 293: Chapter 293: Shoulder for You_1
That day.
After shopping, Xia Qingtian casually bought some pastries from an old shop that Bo Jingyan’s father loved. She then delivered them to his old mansion.
But from afar, she saw an ambulance parked at the mansion’s gate.
Why was there an ambulance?
Had an accident occurred at the mansion?
Pondering this, her heart suddenly tightened, accompanied by a foreboding feeling.
Soon, her uneasy intuition was confirmed. Being carried on the stretcher and into the ambulance was none other than—
Bo Jingyan’s father!!!
"Grandfather..." Xia Qingtian called out, her voice trembling.
But Bo Jingyan’s father had already lost consciousness and was unresponsive to her calls.
She then looked at the anxious-looking Uncle Zhang and asked, "Uncle Zhang, what happened to grandfather?"
Uncle Zhang shook his head, "I don’t know. After he had his meal, he complained about chest discomfort. I was about to call the family doctor, but then he suddenly coughed up blood and lost consciousness."
Seeing that she could not get any more information, Xia Qingtian did not push further.
In the meantime, Bo Jingyan’s father had been loaded into the ambulance.
Xia Qingtian and Uncle Zhang quickly followed.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
On the way to the hospital, Xia Qingtian had already informed Bo Jingyan.
By the time they got to the hospital, Bo Jingyan was already there with the best doctors waiting.
As soon as the ambulance stopped, Bo Jingyan’s father was rushed into surgery.
With anxiety in her heart, Xia Qingtian stood outside the emergency room, continuously praying for Bo Jingyan’s father to be safe, when suddenly...
"Open your mouth!" Bo Jingyan demanded in a cold tone.
Xia Qingtian froze for a moment, not understanding.
Bo Jingyan frowned, his eyes filled with resignation. He reached out to gently pinch her cheeks, coercing her to open her mouth.
Reluctantly, Xia Qingtian opened her mouth.
"Does it hurt?" Bo Jingyan gently touched her lips, his tone subtly filled with tenderness.
Subconsciously, Xia Qingtian licked her lips.
A sting came from her lips. Only then did she realize how worried she had been about Bo Jingyan’s father, unconsciously biting her lip and breaking the skin.
"No, it doesn’t hurt!" She shook her head.
If it hadn’t been for Bo Jingyan’s reminder, she would have been completely unaware that she had injured her lip.
"Don’t worry, grandfather will be fine. He has always been blessed," Bo Jingyan said, pulling her into his arms and comforting her in a deep voice.
Xia Qingtian knew that Bo Jingyan’s father’s fate was not determined by his words alone. But she had to admit, his presence and comfort eased her fears somewhat.
It seemed that whatever Bo Jingyan said, would actually come to be.
Resting comfortably in Bo Jingyan’s arms, she quietly nodded, acknowledging his reassurance.
After what felt like an eternity, the emergency room doors finally opened.
With Bo Jingyan’s support, Xia Qingtian immediately went to the doctor and anxiously asked, "Doctor, how is my grandfather doing? Why would he vomit blood out of the blue?"
The doctor removed his facemask, "The patient’s condition has stabilized for now."
Before Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan could feel elated, he added somberly, "However, the reason the patient vomited blood and fainted was due to poisoning."
"Poisoned?" Xia Qingtian’s face turned white in an instant, "How did he get poisoned?"
Bo Jingyan seemed troubled as well, but his demeanor was more calm and collected as he asked the crucial question, "Can the poison be cured?"
The doctor shook his head, his brow deeply furrowed, "That’s the most inconvenient part. Right now, we can’t detect what kind of poison the patient has consumed, hence we are unable to detoxify it."
"The best course of action right now is for the family to check what the patient has consumed or if he has come into contact with any suspicious items. Identifying the source of the poison would help us determine what kind of poison it is and only then can we start the detoxification for the patient."
"Alright, I understand." Bo Jingyan nodded.
After giving his advice, the doctor was ready to leave but stopped to add,
"Make sure to act promptly. We have found that this poison is highly toxic and spreads quickly. If we fail to find the source within three days, the poison may cause irreversible damage to the patient’s internal organs."
"Moreover, given the patient’s age and gradually declining health, his life could be in great danger."
Upon hearing this, Xia Qingtian’s legs went weak and she almost collapsed.
Fortunately, Bo Jingyan was there to support her in time.
Shortly after, Bo Jingyan’s father was transferred from the emergency room to ICU.
Separated by a glass wall, Xia Qingtian watched Bo Jingyan’s father lying on the hospital bed, hooked up to numerous medical devices. She thought about how energetic he was just a few days back and the heartache consumed her.
Knowing her grief, Bo Jingyan patted his own shoulder, his tone softened, "If you want to cry, lean on my shoulder and let it out for a while."
Xia Qingtian snuffled, forcing back the tears welling up in her eyes.
A trace of determination appeared on her face, "Now is not the time to cry. We must first find a way to save Grandfather. If I have to cry, I’ll do it only after we make sure Grandfather is safe."
Bo Jingyan fondly caressed her hair, "You are heavily pregnant, it’s okay to go home and rest if you’re tired after keeping vigil at the hospital. I am here to take care of everything."
Xia Qingtian shook her head decisively, "Grandfather has always been good to me. Now it’s my turn to do something for him."
She left no room for Bo Jingyan to argue.
"Putting all our eggs in one basket carries great risk. We can’t bank all our hopes on finding the poison source within three days," she swallowed her emotions as she said calmly, "That’s too risky. We only have three days."
"Are we just going to stand around and watch Grandfather..."
She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence.
Bo Jingyan already had a plan in mind, but seeing how spirited she was, he asked, "So, do you have any ideas?"
Faced with Bo Jingyan’s father’s predicament, Xia Qingtian didn’t hold back, "Leave the investigation of the poison source to me. You have vast resources and connections. Try to find a doctor who is well-versed in toxicology to come to the hospital. See if the poison can be neutralized without knowing the poison source."
"If necessary, we could try traditional Chinese medicine, which has been handed down for thousands of years."
Having said that, she looked at Bo Jingyan, "What do you think?"
Bo Jingyan’s eyes lit up, "Very good."
Their line of thought was identical.
Knowing that Xia Qingtian wanted to do something for Bo Jingyan’s father, he didn’t suggest again that he take care of these matters while she rested.
"Jiang Xuan will be under your command. If you encounter any problems, let him handle them. Don’t exhaust yourself or grandfather will blame me for not taking good care of you when he wakes up."
