Chapter 285: Chapter 285 Too Sweet_1

Meanwhile.

Xia Qingtian was oblivious to the fact that someone had already plotted against her life.

After getting discharged from the hospital, she was preparing to go back with Bo Jingyan.

However, on the way back, her phone suddenly rang. She took it out and saw that it was actually a reminder for an anniversary.

And not just any ordinary anniversary, but—

The third anniversary of her marriage to Bo Jingyan.

In the past, she and Bo Jingyan were merely strangers despite their marital ties, hence she would usually skip this anniversary, but...

Their bond has grown significantly stronger now.

Xia Qingtian cherished the first marriage anniversary after her reconciliation and renewed love with Bo Jingyan and wanted to celebrate it well with him.

She pocketed her phone, her eyes gleaming with anticipation looking at Bo Jingyan, "Do you remember what day it is in three days?"

"What?" Bo Jingyan glanced at her, clearly clueless.

Disappointed by his reaction, Xia Qingtian was about to remind him when the latter’s phone rang. The caller was his father, so he immediately answered the call.

His father urged him to rush home for an urgent matter on the phone.

After ending the call, the two hurried back to the old house.

Worried that his father might be in trouble, Xia Qingtian forgot all about their upcoming wedding anniversary.

Once they reached the house, Bo Jingyan was hastily called into the study.

Xia Qingtian sat in the living room, snacking on the treats his father had prepared for her.

Before long, Bo Jingyan came downstairs and approached her, "I have some urgent errands to run out of town. You stay here for the time being, and I will come back for you once I have settled them."

His face seemed slightly tense, causing a lump in Xia Qingtian’s throat.

"Did you encounter any serious issues?" she asked with concern.

Bo Jingyan stroked her face, "It’s not really that complicated, I just need to handle it personally."

Relieved to hear that the issue was manageable, Xia Qingtian replied, "Take care of yourself. Goodbye."

Before he left, Xia Qingtian suddenly grabbed his arm, "Wait a minute, how long will you be gone this time?"

"I’m not sure..." Bo Jingyan responded, then, sensing her odd reaction, he queried, "What’s wrong?"

Xia Qingtian pursed her lips and looked at him expectantly, "Can you return within three days?"

She did not want to miss their first wedding anniversary since their reconciliation.

"I’ll try my best!" Bo Jingyan couldn’t make a promise.

Understanding his predicament, Xia Qingtian said, "If you can make it, do come back. It’s okay if you can’t."

"Okay." Bo Jingyan embraced her once more and then left.

Xia Qingtian initially intended to go back to the city and wait until Bo Jingyan returned. However, her grandfather insisted that she stay at the mansion until Bo Jingyan could pick her up, concerned that no one would look after her in the city.

Having no choice, she had to stay at the house.

Time whizzed past and it was already their wedding anniversary. Still, there was no sign of Bo Jingyan.

She called him, only to learn that he was still out of town and would return after a couple of days.

Though disappointment flooded her upon confirming his impossibility of returning for their anniversary, she didn’t let it show and instead asked him to take care of himself before ending the call.

As night fell, the grandfather suddenly summoned her and said he would take her to a nice place.

Without explaining further, he ushered her into the car.

On the way, Xia Qingtian asked about their destination.

But the grandfather mysteriously forbade her from asking and said, "You’ll know once we get there."

Realizing she wouldn’t get an answer, she didn’t push any further.

As they continued to traverse, she started recognizing the familiar scenery along the way, and it seemed like the direction was leading them back to-

Her and Bo Jingyan’s villa in the city.

Before she could question him, the car pulled to a halt.

"We’re here, let’s get out." The grandfather reminded her.

Xia Qingtian was startled to see that it was indeed the villa where she and Bo Jingyan lived.

"Grandpa, why are we here?" she asked, puzzled.

The grandfather stroked his beard and said, "I need to fetch a document, and since I don’t feel like moving around much, could you please get it for me, Qingqing? It’s on Jingyan’s desk in the study."

At his explanation, Xia Qingtian felt a surge of disappointment.

She had believed that the reason the grandfather had brought her here was that Bo Jingyan had finally returned. Now, it seemed she had misunderstood.

"Okay..." she sighed, "You wait here in the car, I’ll be right back."

With that, she got out of the car and headed quickly into the villa.

Usually well-lit, the villa was, inconceivably, plunged into darkness today, and the maids and butler were nowhere to be found.

Groping around in the dark, Xia Qingtian found the light switch and turned it on, but the villa remained as dark as ever.

Just as she was wondering what was happening, suddenly—

Footsteps echoed through the darkness. Turning around, she saw a man holding a cake studded with candles in one hand and a bouquet of dew-glistened red roses in the other, walking toward her out of the darkness.

The man was in a sharp suit, and the candlelight shone on his face, highlighting his refined features. He exuded an aura of mysterious nobility, like an emperor in the night.

It was Bo Jingyan!!!

For a moment, Xia Qingtian was utterly speechless.

By then, Bo Jingyan had reached her and presented the cake, his gravelly voice softening as he whispered, "Happy third wedding anniversary, Xia Qingtian."

Xia Qingtian took a moment to react, unable to distinguish whether this was a dream or reality.

"Are you dumbfounded?" Seeing her not moving, Bo Jingyan pinched her nose.

Regaining herself, Xia Qingtian blurted out, "Bo Jingyan, didn’t you say you won’t be coming back for a couple of days?"

"I lied!" Bo Jingyan gazed at her affectionately, "How else was I supposed to surprise you?"

Hearing his words, Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but flash a hearty smile, "I thought I would be spending this day alone. I didn’t expect to see you and that you have even prepared such a huge surprise for me. I’m really happy."

Seeing her happiness, Bo Jingyan felt it was worth putting so much care into the preparations.

He reassured her, "I’ll be by your side every year on our wedding anniversary."

With tears welling up in her eyes, Xia Qingtian nodded in agreement.

Bo Jingyan then placed the cake and flowers onto a table and led her to the dining room. As they walked in, they found the table beautifully arranged with food under the candlelight. Once they settled down, the maids revealed the dishes to be heart-shaped steaks.

Even though these were all clichéd, Xia Qingtian felt as sweet as if her heart were soaked in honey because she was with someone she loved.

After finishing the cake and steak, she felt a bit tired and went back to her room to rest.

But upon opening the door and seeing the room’s decoration, she was left in utter shock.
