Chapter 230: Childish Amusement

Chapter 230: Childish Amusement

Ye Ningyuan and Cheng Anya followed their gazes. Everyone was cheerfully toasting Gu Rui, each smiling with what appeared to be genuine sincerity.

Tang Si glanced over, then whispered something to Young Master Ye Third. He raised an eyebrow and uttered two words: "Childish!"

Cheng Anya chuckled. "You’re getting old. Just say you’re envious of your son’s youth. When you were young, you did even more childish things."

Young Master Ye Third snorted.

Tang Si said, "Anya, speaking of which, how did your Feimo end up bonding with Lin Ning and the others? I’m curious. Those guys are birds of a feather, but they all seem to have nothing to say to the ice block."

Ye Ningyuan said, "We’ve recently been conducting a study. Everyone’s body has a special characteristic that attracts people of the same kind. Psychopaths tend to attract psychopaths, ladies attract ladies, monks tend to attract nuns, and of course, scumbags tend to attract scumbags."

Cheng Anya burst out laughing. So, these guys were all scumbags?

She chuckled. "Where’s Wen Lan?"

"She took Xiao Nian to the restroom."

The others were still plying Gu Rui with drinks, seemingly intending to get him drunk. Wen Nuan ate a few bites of light food and got up to go to the restroom. Cai Xiaojing saw her flushed cheeks and blurry eyes; she was probably quite tipsy. She offered to help her, but Wen Nuan shook her head, telling Cai Xiaojing to sit down, and went by herself.

Stepping out of the banquet hall, a cold breeze blew, making Wen Nuan feel more comfortable and clearing her head. She went to the restroom and sat there in a daze for a while. Suddenly, she heard a scream from outside, "Season, did you see him? That man was so handsome, utterly captivating! Who is he?"

"Which one are you talking about?"

"The man in the silver-gray suit, he was so cool!"

"I don’t know, there are so many people I don’t recognize. But the only thing for sure is that everyone here is a big shot."

...

Wen Nuan sat for a while, waiting for the voices outside to fade before she emerged. Women were so gossipy. If they wanted to see handsome men, there were plenty today. None of Ye Feimo’s group would fall short of a popular male star.

As she walked out, her shoes were too high, and she was half-drunk. She missed a step, her ankle twisted, and she stumbled forward. Suddenly, a pair of hands steadily caught her. A faint scent of cologne wafted towards her. Wen Nuan clung to him weakly.

Those were very beautiful hands, with long, slender fingers and neatly trimmed nails that were round yet slightly pointed at the tips. The skin was much fairer than that of an ordinary man. His palms were large. At a glance, one could tell they were strong hands.

"Miss, are you alright?" A rich baritone voice came from above her, as he helped her stand upright.

"Thank you," Wen Nuan said, rubbing her head without looking up. She thanked him, then subtly stepped back and began to walk. After only two steps, she stumbled again. The man again wrapped his arm around her waist, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. "Miss, it seems you’re quite drunk. Why don’t you sit for a while before leaving?"

He helped Wen Nuan to a long bench opposite them. Wen Nuan leaned back tiredly, tilting her face up and closing her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun. It felt so comfortable. Suddenly, her vision darkened, as if something was blocking the sunlight. Wen Nuan slowly opened her eyes to see the man using his hand to block the sun. Her gaze moved up, and she saw an incomparably handsome face: sharp brows, sparkling eyes, a high nose bridge, and thin lips slightly curved.

He wasn’t a man who was immediately striking or exquisite at first glance, but he was incredibly pleasant to look at, especially his eyes, which were deep with a hint of otherworldliness. He had a faint smile, and he thoughtfully blocked the blinding sunlight for her.

His smile was like a warm breeze, caressing her brows and eyes. She paused for a moment, her body instinctively sitting up. He wore a silver-gray suit, perfectly tailored, complementing his elegant and upright demeanor. For the first time, she understood what it meant to be "as gentle as jade." The warm smile in his eyes always made one feel as if they had known him for many years.

"I’m so sorry, I’ve caused you trouble..." Wen Nuan apologized instinctively.

"No trouble at all," the man chuckled softly. Wen Nuan mused, he was truly very pleasant to look at. His smile was very comforting, bringing complete joy. Looking at his smile was a pleasure.

Wen Nuan also smiled genuinely, her slightly tipsy eyes blurry, revealing an ineffable charm. The man’s lips curved slightly. The sun was good, and the breeze was gentle. Wen Nuan’s mood was also uncharacteristically bright.

The man chuckled, "Are you in a bad mood?"

"It’s nothing, just a breakup," Wen Nuan said, feigning indifference with a smile.

The man paused. "No wonder you’re trying to drown your sorrows in alcohol."

Wen Nuan laughed, tilting her head slightly to look at him. "Do I look like someone who’s trying to drown her sorrows because of a breakup?"

"Very much so!"

"You’re so boring. At a time like this, to comfort my wounded little heart, you should say ’no, you don’t’," Wen Nuan pouted.

The man smiled and said, "I don’t think your little heart is wounded."

"Of course it’s wounded! I’m hurting inside, it’s painful," Wen Nuan said, chuckling foolishly. She tilted her head to look at him, leaning in as if sharing a secret. "Have you ever been heartbroken?"

The man thought for a moment. "No!"

Wen Nuan stood up, patted his shoulder, and earnestly lectured him. "Brother, a man who has never been heartbroken is a man who hasn’t grown up. No... not a real man. Hmm, that’s it."

The man smiled, looking up at her face, finding her incredibly adorable. He couldn’t help but reach out and caress her face. "What’s your name?"

"I won’t tell you. When you’re heartbroken someday, I’ll tell you," Wen Nuan chuckled, slumping back onto the chair. The man, fearing she might hurt herself, reached out and embraced her, gently supporting her waist as she slowly sat down, carefully and very tenderly.

"Why will you only tell me when I’m heartbroken?"

"I’m heartbroken, and you’re heartbroken. Then we’ll both be sad people in this world, so why not pair up, haha..." Wen Nuan scratched her head. The man paused, then burst into laughter.

He seemed to be a person who rarely laughed heartily. His laughter was as warm as spring, giving an immense warmth in winter, like sunlight, enveloping her, incredibly comfortable. Wen Nuan leaned on the chair, slightly opening her eyes to look at him. His handsome features were clear and fresh like morning dew. She reached out and touched his brow. "You’re really handsome."

A hint of indulgence flashed in the man’s eyes. Wen Nuan had already tilted her head, closing her eyes to rest. She was drunk, and quite so. The after-effects of the alcohol were kicking in, even making her drowsy. The man shook his head. A man in a black suit quickly approached. "Master, it’s time to go back."

The man nodded, then lowered his head to glance at Wen Nuan. She lay on the chair, breathing evenly, sleeping peacefully. A faint blush colored her small, pale face, looking incredibly beautiful in the flickering sunlight. He reached out, as if to touch her face, but then pulled his hand back midway, and said softly, "Let’s go."

"Yes!"

Shortly after the man left, Ye Feimo came out looking for Wen Nuan. Following the path to the restroom, he easily found her lying on a chair. Ye Feimo was both annoyed and amused; she was already drunk.

She had poor tolerance, yet she insisted on drinking so much like others. It served her right.

He found someone to inform Cai Xiaojing and Mandong that Wen Nuan was drunk and he was taking her back to rest.
