Chapter 224: Conflicting Feelings
She was angry, yet her heart was conflicted. She didn’t want to break up, but she was in a cold war with him. She didn’t want to forgive him. What did she truly want? If she didn’t want to be with him anymore, she should just break up. View the correct content at NovelFire
It would save her from all this frustration. But if they actually broke up, she couldn’t bear it.
In short, women are just complicated.
Actually, she knew Han Bi’s words couldn’t be entirely trusted; some were meant to provoke her, but some had to be true. The watch, him spending the night at Han Bi’s place, the lingering ties, and that butterfly brooch—what was all this about? Ye Feimo clearly knew she was uncomfortable, yet he offered no explanation.
She truly felt pathetic.
Wen Nuan turned her back, not wanting to face him. The weather was cold, her bed was warm, but her heart was cold, as if a chilling wind was blowing through it. Wen Nuan thought sadly, in Ye Feimo’s heart, perhaps she was truly insignificant, which was why he disdained explaining to her.
Even if he lied to her, she would believe him. Unfortunately, he said nothing at all.
He couldn’t be so certain of her feelings, knowing she loved him and couldn’t bear to leave him, and then hurt her so matter-of-factly. If she truly intended to leave, there would be no turning back. View the correct content at NovelFire
She didn’t want to reach that point.
Forget it, let the cold war continue. When she eventually got tired of it, breaking up would be no big deal.
She still had to attend Chen Xueru’s wedding tomorrow, so she didn’t have the energy to dwell on this with him.
Time to sleep, Wen Nuan. Tomorrow, when you wake up, it will be a new year, a new day. Hopefully, you’ll have a new, good mood.
"Nuan Nuan, Han Bi and I ended a long time ago," Ye Feimo said. "I threw away that watch. All the newspapers and magazines in the office have been thrown away too. I haven’t kept any lingering ties with her. I admit, I still cared about her somewhat, perhaps unable to let go of the past, wanting to know the reason for her departure, wanting to know if Mommy wronged her, or for some other reason. But now I don’t want to know. Everything is completely cut off. Nuan Nuan, please don’t be angry anymore, okay?"
Wen Nuan didn’t respond. Ye Feimo paused, then continued, "Han Bi is Han Bi, and you are you. She left so many years ago, and I never looked for a woman similar to her, so don’t listen to her nonsense. The initial motive might have been impure, but later it ceased to matter. I know who I want, and I know who I can’t lose. These past few days, you wanted some peace, and I gave you time for that. Your anger should have subsided by now. Consider it my fault. From now on, when I go out to see women, even if it’s my mother, I’ll report it to you, okay?"
Wen Nuan still didn’t respond. Ye Feimo sighed. This level of explanation was a first for him. He had never had to stoop to such a level to explain himself to anyone, and Wen Nuan was still ignoring him. What else could he say to make her relent?
He was utterly baffled. He had explained, he had promised, what more was she dissatisfied with?
"Don’t just keep quiet. Tell me what you want," Ye Feimo said helplessly, willing to let her dictate terms, as long as she was happy. But who knew, Wen Nuan remained unmoved.
He was truly anxious. He had said everything there was to say, so what was she still playing hard to get about? Ye Feimo turned Wen Nuan’s shoulder, only to see her sleeping soundly, her breathing even.
In that instant, his mind buzzed. Ye Feimo once again experienced the meaning of frustration. He had finally decided to explain, and had finally said a long string of words, letting go of all pretense.
But she was actually asleep?
Asleep?
In less than ten minutes, she had fallen asleep?
Who was she talking to earlier? Was she talking to the air? Ye Feimo angrily turned over, his gaze gloomy as he stared at the ceiling, a belly full of frustration with no way to release it.
It was a rare instance of him explaining himself, but no one was listening. Young Master Ye Second’s heart turned cold, a taste he wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Young Master Ye was furious. He turned and glared fiercely at Wen Nuan, then suddenly extended his leg and kicked her off the bed. The floor was carpeted, and the bed wasn’t high, so it wouldn’t have hurt. Ye Feimo was already used to Wen Nuan kicking him off the bed.
But by an unfortunate coincidence, her head hit a small low cabinet. Wen Nuan rubbed her forehead, sat up from the floor, and looked around at herself on the carpet, bewildered and innocent-faced. She rubbed her eyes, looking exactly like a little white rabbit that had been abused.
"What’s going on?" Wen Nuan asked sleepily, yawning and complaining softly, "Why did you kick me?"
"Pig!"
She crawled up from the floor and rolled back into the covers. She wrapped herself in the blanket and rolled next to Ye Feimo. The weather was cold, and even in her sleep, she knew where it was warm and where to roll. In just a moment, she was hugging Ye Feimo and sweetly fell back asleep.
Ye Feimo was exasperated. This was like punching cotton; he felt nothing at all.
"Get off me! Don’t hug me, it’s too hot," Ye Feimo pried her hands away. Wen Nuan lifted a leg and directly pressed it onto his leg, clinging to him in her sleep. Ye Feimo’s lips twitched. He really couldn’t compliment Wen Nuan’s sleeping posture.
He was furious.
She actually hadn’t heard him, and he even wanted to say it again. He could just strangle her.
Wen Nuan slept very comfortably all night, feeling warm. The most crucial part was having a human pillow, and this person was the most familiar and beloved person to her. Without him, she always struggled to sleep well. Once he returned, she slept soundly, without dreams, feeling exceptionally comfortable.
She woke up and was mortified by her sleeping posture. One could say their limbs were intertwined. One of her arms was across his chest, and her head comfortably nestled against him, feeling warm and incredibly comfortable.
Ye Feimo had long been woken up by her, so when Wen Nuan woke up, she saw Ye Feimo staring intensely at her with wide, expressionless eyes. Wen Nuan’s body stiffened. She withdrew her limbs, turned over to face away from him, no longer sleepy.
She instinctively rubbed her head, which felt slightly sore. Had he kicked her off the bed last night?
She had a vague memory. She usually kicked Ye Feimo. Finally, it was his turn to kick her. Heaven truly was fair. Ye Feimo got up to wash. Wen Nuan suddenly felt a chill beside her and couldn’t help but pull the blanket around her, lingering in bed.
Winter was truly a season for staying in bed. Lying there so lazily, she didn’t even want to go out.
She turned on her phone. Tang Mandong’s text message had already arrived, telling her to leave early. Wen Nuan got up, took her clothes to the next room to wash up. Ye Feimo was much faster than her. After changing his clothes, she thought of today’s dress. Wen Nuan opened her jewelry box and saw the butterfly brooch. It matched today’s dress perfectly. However, upon seeing this brooch, she remembered that Han Bi also had an identical butterfly brooch.
Perhaps Ye Feimo had given it to her. To give the same thing to two women, who would even care?
